Honestly, the drugstore is just straight up brutal with its shades, especially Physician's Formula. The fact that medium is PF's darkest shade and there are only 3... that's like borderline offensive. I'm usually like natural beige colors with more yellow undertones and I find that a lot run rather pink. But it's not just us... I hear a lot of women and men of color have problems too where either the colors aren't anywhere NEAR dark enough or they just lean too orange, red, yellow, etc. I do, however, appreciate L'oreal because they really have sooooo many shades. But yeah this foundation I'll definitely have to skip on. P.S. this video is the best way to kick off this weekend of blizzards in the northeast! Love ya queen xo

I had been debating whether to get it or wait until summer when my skin isn't so horribly dry, but I think I'll pass on this one, especially after seeing the actual colors swatched. This is the best foundation I've EVER had! And I've bought VERY high end and very low end. Porcelain Ivory is my perfect shade and it makes my skin look beautiful and airbrushed and like I have no makeup on!

You should try the Clinique stay matte oil free makeup that comes in the squeeze bottle . It's one of the few foundations I have found that actually help with controlling oil! I'm the color 01 Linen (VF-N) I'm not sure if you would be the same or maybe one shade lighter but you should definitely try it if you have the chance to. As always love your videos ❤️ you and Tati are the only channels that I trust with honest reviews
I had a hard time finding a shade too! My drugstore didn't have any testers 😒. But Maybelline foundations usually tend to always be too pink for me (except the FitMe range, I did find a decent shade there). I wasn't crazy about this foundation at first either (I have dry/combo skin), and I still have some mixed feelings about it. I felt really oily with this foundation by the end of the day--especially in my T-zone. It was very prone to transferring in my experience too 😕. I'm going to keep playing with it and see if I can't make it work for me. Great video as always Cassie! Hope you have a great weekend! 😊

The color range is garbage for sure! I am very pale and warm toned and I bought the warm porcelain color. You would think it would be warm toned, but you'd be wrong! It's so pink! Ugh!!!
+HammyMamma Today I went out searching for this and I couldn't decide on a shade. I'm light and warm toned so I was deciding between #15 and #40... so glad I didn't actually go through with it. The first would have been too pink and the second would have been too dark. Bummer :(
+HammyMamma I wonder, aren't there any testers for you guys to test a bit on your face before purchasing? Because in my country, we usually have tester just to make sure we are able to purchase the closest possible shade to our own.
This is why makeup companies should allow people to swatch the shades via samples. It's got to be cheaper to just allot one tube per shade to be used for swatching than to deal with all the returns. It wastes our time and money to go through this.
In sweden, if you buy a foundation, mascara, whatever and if it turns out to be the wrong colour, well u are screwed 💁🏼 cant return it once you tried it.. That really sucks..
+safieroflove That's not fair, I'm sorry to hear it. :( The least they could do is offer us a way to make sure we get the proper shade before we buy a foundation, but I guess they make less money that way. At least department stores shade match though, so it's worth the extra money.
The finish on that looks so good! I have breakouts here and there too. But I just use the Maybelline under eye Concealer to blot them out if the foundation doesn't cover them.
I would love to see you try a sample (because it is $$$) of the Marc Jacobs RE(marc)able foundation at Sephora! You tubers make it looks so amazing, and I want to see it on someone with skin concerns like mine :) Love your videos!
+JeanetteDoesBeauty Yeah I would, too, but that's totally not Cassie's style so I doubt she'll do it. She likes a natural finish and the Remarcable foundation definitely isn't. I've seen YTbers put that on and it looks like a kabuki mask, a very nice kabuki mask but still a very full-on makeup look. Thataylaa has adult acne and oily skin and she has done a review and loves it. Maybe check that out if you haven't already?
I hope she does! I have dermatillomania too, and if it can't cover "crusty bits" it isn't worth it. But I will totally check out Thataylaa, thanks for the recommendation!

I have oily skin and I love this foundation ☺️ I use Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation primer under it, and set it with Maybelline's Fit Me Matte + Pore less powder!
I’ve found this foundation to be a holy grail for a winter time foundation (not summer). I mix it with a touch of double wear from Estée Lauder I literally put a dime size of double wear on the back of my hand and then a larger amount of the velvet and then I mix it. I found that actually if you use a sponge and streak it on (you know how youtubers tell you not to do) or rub it on and then when it more scattered and blended I then pat. This has a more satin finish so it takes a minute to dry....... for touch up throughout the day I use a mineral foundation. Hope this helps bc the finish is very flawless but I do not suggest applying this by itself And no setting spray!!! Just moisturizer and I don’t dampen my beauty blender especially when using silicone thicker typed foundations you don’t need any water or setting spray
P.S i have hormonal acne and a severe picking issue since childhood and its NO BIG DEAL! i love that you present it the way it should be, as NO BIG DEALLLL!!! you go girl

+Polyvinyllp I don't really put foundation there because for whatever reason it ends up gathering really funny throughout the day.... like I get super oily there and it breaks down the foundation and it looks all cracked (maybe it's from my brow hairs?).... either way it doesn't look good haha XD
I'm so glad you uploaded this since I have oily skin, and wear glasses. I was gonna buy this until I decided to use powder foundation a week ago... and it's the best decision I've made for my oily skin.
did you set it with powder? just curious. I actually really like it so far, but only if I apply with fingers only! it's awful with a blender and ok with a brush. Then I have to set with powder and normally won't have to retouch! Which is like 8 hrs for me. I have combination oily/dry skin.

Also i saw your dream lumi cushion reiew and I didn't buy it bc of your review, but a friend gave me the laneige cushion and it was wonderful, i have oily skin just like you and it was pretty matte all day! I used rimmel translucent powder bc i thought all cushions were oily and my skin didnt turn into a grease ball. I had it on from 630 am till 12:30am

I'm so bummed you didn't like this one! I loved it, but I think I'm more combo skin, than mostly oily. I bought a shade and it was the perfect match and I even found it comparable to the Hourglass Immaculate foundation. Like the others, I am loving all the uploads!
When you swatch foundations on the back of your hand, do you match it to the back of your hand or do you use your hand sort of as a reference? Because the back of my hand is a lot less warm toned than I would like my foundation to be, if that makes sense? I was just wondering how you go about color matching drug store foundations since they normally don't have testers. Love you Cassie (:
I found this product works well for me. The colour isn't perfect but with the Maybelline FitMe Matte + Poreless powder in it's lightest shade (other than translucent), it ends up being the right colour. If they could release a colour that was less pink toned, that'd be wonderful because I love the consistency of the product and how it applies onto my skin. The packaging is wonderful as well because I hate bottles. I prefer tubes because when it gets to the end of it's life span, you can cut them open and take out more product.
Cassie, do you ever feel like primer makes your skin get oilier than it would otherwise? Was there a time when you didn't use primer at all and saw a difference, either good or bad? I've tried that Laura Mercier primer that you use along with many others and I always feel like my face gets so yucky and shiny WAY faster than it does without it. :(

Well I guess I wouldn't say the primers I use/like are ones that control oil (those are usually silicone based primers and those break me out so I don't use them), I like them more because they help my foundation apply more evenly and and also last a lot longer on my skin.
I have really oily skin too and have been using this foundation for about a week. I find that if I use concealer under it around the parts that get oily it seems to hold up better. Also, I just discovered the Benefits Porefessional primer and it is really helping to control the oil even more. It's expensive ($28) but the best primer I've used so far and I currently have about 9 tubes of primer on my makeup collection. I usually have to blot about mid day and then it holds up until I get home and take my makeup off. Also, applying it with a brush gives it a more full coverage. I agree the color selection is not the best though.

I had been debating whether to get it or wait until summer when my skin isn't so horribly dry, but I think I'll pass on this one, especially after seeing the actual colors swatched. This is the best foundation I've EVER had! And I've bought VERY high end and very low end. Porcelain Ivory is my perfect shade and it makes my skin look beautiful and airbrushed and like I have no makeup on!

You should try the Clinique stay matte oil free makeup that comes in the squeeze bottle . It's one of the few foundations I have found that actually help with controlling oil! I'm the color 01 Linen (VF-N) I'm not sure if you would be the same or maybe one shade lighter but you should definitely try it if you have the chance to. As always love your videos ❤️ you and Tati are the only channels that I trust with honest reviews
I had a hard time finding a shade too! My drugstore didn't have any testers 😒. But Maybelline foundations usually tend to always be too pink for me (except the FitMe range, I did find a decent shade there). I wasn't crazy about this foundation at first either (I have dry/combo skin), and I still have some mixed feelings about it. I felt really oily with this foundation by the end of the day--especially in my T-zone. It was very prone to transferring in my experience too 😕. I'm going to keep playing with it and see if I can't make it work for me.

The color range is garbage for sure! I am very pale and warm toned and I bought the warm porcelain color. You would think it would be warm toned, but you'd be wrong! It's so pink! Ugh!!!

+HammyMamma Today I went out searching for this and I couldn't decide on a shade. I'm light and warm toned so I was deciding between #15 and #40... so glad I didn't actually go through with it. The first would have been too pink and the second would have been too dark. Bummer :(
+HammyMamma I wonder, aren't there any testers for you guys to test a bit on your face before purchasing? Because in my country, we usually have tester just to make sure we are able to purchase the closest possible shade to our own.
This is why makeup companies should allow people to swatch the shades via samples. It's got to be cheaper to just allot one tube per shade to be used for swatching than to deal with all the returns. It wastes our time and money to go through this.
In sweden, if you buy a foundation, mascara, whatever and if it turns out to be the wrong colour, well u are screwed 💁🏼 cant return it once you tried it.. That really sucks..
+safieroflove That's not fair, I'm sorry to hear it. :( The least they could do is offer us a way to make sure we get the proper shade before we buy a foundation, but I guess they make less money that way. At least department stores shade match though, so it's worth the extra money.

You should really try the MUFE matte velvet + foundation. It's great for oily skin!
The finish on that looks so good! I have breakouts here and there too. But I just use the Maybelline under eye Concealer to blot them out if the foundation doesn't cover them.
I would love to see you try a sample (because it is $$$) of the Marc Jacobs RE(marc)able foundation at Sephora! You tubers make it looks so amazing, and I want to see it on someone with skin concerns like mine :) Love your videos!

+JeanetteDoesBeauty Yeah I would, too, but that's totally not Cassie's style so I doubt she'll do it. She likes a natural finish and the Remarcable foundation definitely isn't. I've seen YTbers put that on and it looks like a kabuki mask, a very nice kabuki mask but still a very full-on makeup look. Thataylaa has adult acne and oily skin and she has done a review and loves it. Maybe check that out if you haven't already?

I mix my too dark makeup with some face lotion and a touch of highlighter. Hope that helps to make it more wearable🤗

I have oily skin and I love this foundation ☺️ I use Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation primer under it, and set it with Maybelline's Fit Me Matte + Pore less powder!
I’ve found this foundation to be a holy grail for a winter time foundation (not summer). I mix it with a touch of double wear from Estée Lauder I literally put a dime size of double wear on the back of my hand and then a larger amount of the velvet and then I mix it. I found that actually if you use a sponge and streak it on (you know how youtubers tell you not to do) or rub it on and then when it more scattered and blended I then pat. This has a more satin finish so it takes a minute to dry....... for touch up throughout the day I use a mineral foundation.
Hope this helps bc the finish is very flawless but I do not suggest applying this by itself
And no setting spray!!! Just moisturizer and I don’t dampen my beauty blender especially when using silicone thicker typed foundations you don’t need any water or setting spray

+Polyvinyllp I don't really put foundation there because for whatever reason it ends up gathering really funny throughout the day.... like I get super oily there and it breaks down the foundation and it looks all cracked (maybe it's from my brow hairs?).... either way it doesn't look good haha XD

I use physicians formula mineral powder and/or BH cosmetics "blooming radiance" powder. Both won't kill your wallet either!
did you set it with powder? just curious. I actually really like it so far, but only if I apply with fingers only! it's awful with a blender and ok with a brush. Then I have to set with powder and normally won't have to retouch! Which is like 8 hrs for me. I have combination oily/dry skin.

Also i saw your dream lumi cushion reiew and I didn't buy it bc of your review, but a friend gave me the laneige cushion and it was wonderful, i have oily skin just like you and it was pretty matte all day! I used rimmel translucent powder bc i thought all cushions were oily and my skin didnt turn into a grease ball. I had it on from 630 am till 12:30am

I'm so bummed you didn't like this one! I loved it, but I think I'm more combo skin, than mostly oily. I bought a shade and it was the perfect match and I even found it comparable to the Hourglass Immaculate foundation. Like the others, I am loving all the uploads!

When you swatch foundations on the back of your hand, do you match it to the back of your hand or do you use your hand sort of as a reference? Because the back of my hand is a lot less warm toned than I would like my foundation to be, if that makes sense? I was just wondering how you go about color matching drug store foundations since they normally don't have testers. Love you Cassie (:

I found this product works well for me. The colour isn't perfect but with the Maybelline FitMe Matte + Poreless powder in it's lightest shade (other than translucent), it ends up being the right colour. If they could release a colour that was less pink toned, that'd be wonderful because I love the consistency of the product and how it applies onto my skin. The packaging is wonderful as well because I hate bottles. I prefer tubes because when it gets to the end of it's life span, you can cut them open and take out more product.
Cassie, do you ever feel like primer makes your skin get oilier than it would otherwise? Was there a time when you didn't use primer at all and saw a difference, either good or bad? I've tried that Laura Mercier primer that you use along with many others and I always feel like my face gets so yucky and shiny WAY faster than it does without it. :(

Well I guess I wouldn't say the primers I use/like are ones that control oil (those are usually silicone based primers and those break me out so I don't use them), I like them more because they help my foundation apply more evenly and and also last a lot longer on my skin.
I have really oily skin too and have been using this foundation for about a week. I find that if I use concealer under it around the parts that get oily it seems to hold up better. Also, I just discovered the Benefits Porefessional primer and it is really helping to control the oil even more. It's expensive ($28) but the best primer I've used so far and I currently have about 9 tubes of primer on my makeup collection. I usually have to blot about mid day and then it holds up until I get home and take my makeup off. Also, applying it with a brush gives it a more full coverage. I agree the color selection is not the best though.
