Air Canada Airbus A220-300 INAUGURAL FLIGHT! Calgary to Montreal
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 січ 2025
- On January 16th, Air Canada flew the first revenue flights of their new Airbus A220-300, and I was on board the first flight from Calgary to Montreal!
Air Canada ordered 45 of the A220-300 variant in 2016 with options for an additional 30 aircraft. Back then, the program was still known as the Bombardier CSeries, before its much-discussed sale to Airbus in 2018.
Air Canada was, however, the first North American airline to place orders for the aircraft, so it’s understandably a pretty big deal for them to finally launch revenue flights.
See what I thought of Air Canada's new bird on its first day of operations!

I can’t say it enough: the C-Series is one of the best plane design we’ve had in a long time. Quiet, efficient, good looking and roomy from what I’ve seen! This summer I’ll be flying it with Swiss, and then in the fall likely with AC or Delta.
Two things I wish was there: the “loo with a view”, and the C-Series welcome mat. I am glad Airbus came to support, but I wish some of the original touches had been kept in place...
Thanks Alex for the video, I am really looking forward to my first flight onboard!
@@_w_w_ Almost any new aircraft has teething issues. Give it time and it's dispatch reliability will improve.
@@_w_w_ This problem has nothing to do with the A220 design, Airbus or Bombardier. The problem is with the new Pratt & Whitney super-efficient engine's software. Apparently P&W have not isolated the cause yet, so they've advised pilots not to push engines above 95% of their maximum thrust when flying above 29,000 feet (reuters). I'm sure once the cause has been identified, these problems will go away and other aircraft manufacturers will be willing to 'take a chance' with the new technology. Bombardier was one of the first to do so, which is bold, but probably necessary to stay ahead of the curve.
@@alancarre7590 I've noticed that it does not fly above 29,000 ft. on all of its flights!
@@jaypek43-Phil Well, that would be one way to comply with the advisory I guess. Maybe that's the reason why...
@@_w_w_ - What do you expect, Delta is a American carrier. Like any of the top three American carriers, they have no concept of passenger comfort and service. Both Swiss and Air Baltic had very little issues when the A220 was introduced to the respective airlines.
The A220/CSeries is one of the best looking aircraft I have ever seen. Fantastic trip report, as always!
Preferably c-series for me
Lol
Max 9 is the best looking too..
That's because it WASN'T DESIGNED BY AIRBUS. It was designed by BOMBARDIER .
Airbus should give it a mask, just like the a350
Spirit airlines be like: let’s order the A220 and put a 3-3 seat configuration and a few extra rows
I do not think that Sprit Airlines will order the A220-100/300. But might order the A321XLR.

Although I am not a big fan of the AC Raccoon painting around the front windshield, I love this aircraft.
Too bad AC opted out of the lavatory window, which is another signature spec for the model.
As a Canadian, this plane is and will always be a Bombardier to me.
Thanks Alex
Man oh man! I love the Bombardier CS300! Such a beauty
5:37 Flight attendant "From all of us at Air Canada, it is a great pleasure to welcome you on board (long pause wondering wtf is that word) the INAURAGUL flight of the Airbus 220."
It was noticable how quiet this airplane is, and those efficient Prat Whitney engines. I first became aware of Bombardier's plane when Porter Airlines wanted to get Toronto to approve them for the Island Airport, because of how quiet they where on the exterior, and complement the turboprops. Full props for the Canadian air industry, although again a company couldn't do it financially and sold to Airbus. Can't wait until i set foot in an A220. Great video.
Cancel the rest of the MAX's on order immediately, and convert all the A220 options into firm orders.
Cancel ALL the Boeing Max aircraft on order and make Boeing buy back the ones that Air Canada has for starters before the rest of the 'compensation' Boeing must be forced to make to Air Canada.
Unfortunately, the A220-300 has a slightly shorter range at 5920km over the Max 8/9 at 6510km.
Then there's the number of passengers being a lot fewer for the A220 with 12J and 125Y over the Max 8 at 16J and 153Y.
And don't forget the cargo capacity of the A220 at 1700kgs and the Max 8 at 8328kgs.
So when you compare the two, the the A220 is not a good direct replacement for the MAX 8.
It's range is shorter by 590km, carries 4J and 28Y fewer passengers and the big killer is the reduced cargo capacity of 6628kgs.
If Air Canada plays hardball with the corruption at Boeing that has cost them a lot already, they'd scrap the MAX orders and go to the A320neo and A321neo which match or beat the MAX 8 and 9. Training wouldn't be a stretch since AC already has A320s and A321 and ALL MAX pilots will have to go through simulator training IF Boeing ever gets that 55+ year old, long in tooth bucket flying again.
Don't forget, Boeing has already screwed Air Canada on a few 787's. Boeing is no position to be calling the shots now. They either clean up their act or spend the next two decades being a solid number 2 builder if they are lucky.
@@FirstLastOne All good, valid points. Bombardier had plans to build an even larger C-Series. The CS500. Hopefully, the fallout from the MAX fiasco, prompts them along with Airbus to launch the 500.
Mickey Bodog HELL YES
do your research! The a220 is much smaller than the max so why should air canada get rid of it for a smaller plane? There is a reason they ordered it in the first place and ordered both. The a220 is to replace their embraers that have similar capacities
@@ysfsim Do your research! Airbus is modelling extended variants that would compete directly with the Max!
1:45 Look at that slick-looking machine! I think I will still know it as the Bombardier C-series. Though, I am glad Airbus got it and bringing some competition to Boeing.
This aircraft is so beautiful! We are so lucky to have so many A220s at ZRH!
You gotta love how quiet that cabin is!
Engines impressively quiet 👍🏿
William Lau the A330 does the same thing but higher pitched with the Trent engines.
William Lau and they fly over my house weekly and considering the fact that noise sensitivity is more of an issue for people in the ground under a flight path or near an airport rather than on board, hearing it from outside matters more. At any rate it’s something we have to get used to as anything with PW1000 engines will be doing this.
I had my best ever short haul flight on an A220 Frankfurt-Geneva with Swiss really enjoyed the cabin
Proud of this Canadian designed aircraft, back in time, bombardier did a great job and im sure it will be a safe aircraft.
That aircraft looks amazing in the new AC livery!
Karl Mathias Moberg I want to see it in the new WestJet Livery
That paint job around the windsheilds is a no no.
@@t5239857289578947594 it actually makes it look a lot better imo.
Flew on this bird with airBaltic around europe. The best flight experience in a long time. Bombardier did Canada proud with the cs series.
Casually raises his phone..........ohh its -29c 😂
This was well worth waiting for mate. Some interesting points you brought out about the interior, the safety video etc. I really believe the A220 has more potential than is even being realised at this current time, and we 'could' see it on some very interesting routes in a few years time.
So pleased for you getting on the first flight mate. Well, put together. Liked 😊
Brilliant video and I very much enjoyed the A220-300 flights from the trio of reporters You, Veulogs, and ITripReport! I hope to fly the A220 sometime as well.
Nice to see you here.. haha
@@Ayzrito hey!
Great Video Alex, nicely put together. The seat width looks to make a huge difference. The IFE screens look amazing too, just a shame Air Canada never opted for the window toilets.
AC probably didn't opt for the window lavatories because people may want to stay in there longer ?
Really nice trip report, awesome to fly on that brand new plane!
Amazing review as usual.
You deserve more subs bro, love your stuff!!
My friend’s mom works at air canada and she took us to YUL and we saw them receive their first a220
I love the Vulcan howl the CS make. It will always be a Bombardier to me!
Seeing this beautiful aircraft makes me furious at what Boeing did, and months before they messed things up with their 737-Max too. Truly malicious, shady management.
Wow, it’s amazing!
Great video! Can't wait to give it a try!
Aww, what a beauty the A220 is.
The inside is very nice, looks like a comfortable flight
Nice work. This looks like an incredible aircraft. :)
Also really cool to see both your and @Vuelogs reports on the same flight - interesting to see what you each focused on.
Quiet Pratt & Whitney engines and it's physical appearance makes this a gorgeous airplane.
Excellent trip report Alex! Keep me’ coming!
The Airbus house livery -300 was in Calgary today
Its hard to look at it and not immediately want to like it haha. There is something so visually pleasing about it.
Great job! Looks like a fun ride
Wow, those engines are incredibly quiet! Pratt & Whitney did a great job with them.
The A220 is one of my favorite airplanes and especially the sounds of the engines on the taxi way and on take off, that howling sounds, it reminds me of the starting ups on the F/A-18 Hornets fighting jets,I really enjoyed your video, Thanks for sharing this with the audience.
Well done! Nicely edited and narrated!
Can say all the best about this aircraft. Being a frequent Air Baltic customer I had many flights by A220-300.
No doubt, my favorite aviation channel w/ regards to plane trip content. Great video!
I can't wait to fly in a A220 with Spirit Airlines! 😁
@@Zyvex10 Spirit?
Gorgeous aircraft, and a terrific report. Thank you!
Nice video Alex the a220 is a awesome plane
Watching these videos from Canada make me glad I live in South Carolina, where it is a blustery 56 F, 13 C, today, December 23rd..! That is cold enough for me lol
Great report, just another reason for me to head to Canada some time. The PW1000g's howling sound on the initial spool up is amazing!
My airline ordered them also but we only get 1 this year. I want to fly it but them will likely be based in Boston and I do not want to commute from Florida.
Awesome video man! Looks great!
Nice im from calgary and have flown mainly 777 and 787 from Air Canada service is great. Planes always get me excited
A thing that makes the A220 so nice is the super-quiet Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engines, which are some of the quietest engines ever on a commercial jet airliner.
Very Nice Video Indeed
Thanks for this video! I'm flying to SFO from YYZ next week and my flight airplane was change to this aircraft. So exited now after watching your video!
Love the sounds! Great video! Gotta love the CS300.
Alex Happy New Year to you and yours. Its c-Series to me Forever.
I love the way it doesn’t shake as if it’s going to fall apart on take off like some of AC’s planes. When they get out the orange de-ice fluid, you know it’s cold. Great report. Thank you.
I’d LOVE to see the Air Canada A220’s! 🇨🇦👨✈️🇨🇦👨✈️🇨🇦👨✈️🇨🇦👨✈️
I think that the airbus A220-300 looks really good
Nice report and good job to Bombardier for recognizing what a Pax Experience means. Looking forward to flying one soon.
Greatest plane there is flew it on Delta loved it.
The exit row seat, row 13 I think was really good (JFK to IAH). Reclines even. Nice job with overhead bins as well.
As someone who works at air Canada YUL, it’s funny to see this a220 (fin 101) fly because it’s in one of the narrow body hangars with no engines and an inch of dust of it.
Fantastic trip report of AC's new A220. It looks so good =D
She’s GORGEOUS
The c series feels like a mini dreamliner indeed!
Fantastic looking aircraft and it looks splendid in AC’s new livery
Yesterday I made also my own Inaugural flight with A220-300 by AirBaltic. Additionally it was 100th A220 airplane built, brand new (manufactured Dec2019). And I am also fully satisfied! :)
The new seats 😍🔥🔥
The CSeries/A220 is an absolutely gorgeous airliner. Really a shame that Bombardier couldn't hack it... oh well, maybe it's for the better that the type has the backing of the prestigious Airbus name. I really hope Airbus is able to sort out the supplier disputes so that the program becomes profitable and flourishes. As a southerner, I take a lot of pride in the fact that we're assembling some of these planes right here in the Deep South, in Mobile, Alabama.
Awesome Video Alex!!!!
Hi Alex...great video. Quick note, the pilot answering questions is the Air Canada A220 Chief Pilot.
Thanks for putting out awesome content. It is great to see how much you have grown and progressed since I have started following you. Cheers!
Excellent trip report Alex !!! :):):)
I'm 6'6" and a little heavier than you ! :):):)
I think I would prefer this plane to the 737-Max any day !!!
Thank you for sharing !!! :):):)
:):):)
Tks a lot! Perfect seat for listening to the quiet engine, very quiet! Won't miss flying on our great "homemade" plane, very soon! BTW, Pizza is better with Pepsi.
Flew the a220 couple weeks ago amazing plane love it
Awesome video man! Such an awesome plane, can't wait to try it Sunday
Cool! I’d like to fly on a Bombardier one day! Such a sleek pretty plane.
Very excited to fly on this plane from YEG to YUL and back next month. I think this will be a good alternative to WestJet's Dash 8 and Dreamliner (plus layover) service. Great video as always!
Good job; very informative and after this pandemic I will go out of my way to try and fly on one of these. 2 thumbs up!
Love The Code Names on These Birds
It's the equivalent of a cars license plate.
Congratulations! Beautiful plane! And a great airline!
Thanks for your report and I do like the music you play....
Love your videos
I got to watch the Airbus A220 livery take off right before the Air Canada from one charter ramps on the west side. Of 17L. I was so excited too see it
I was on that airplane headed back to Wichita. It was ironic to me to see this video, lol.
I worked on this airplane for 3 years when I was at #Bombardier! It's truly a beautiful aircraft! Too bad #Boeing felt the need to crush their "competition", and #Airbus pounced on the opportunity to buy out this amazing airliner from Bombardier and take most of the credit. The #A220 is the BEST narrow-body airplane on the market and I'm happy #AirCanada is finally integrating it in their fleet! Let's hope #WestJet also do the same. Btw, Air Canada's current livery's racoon eyes kinda ruin the view of those sleek cockpit windshields.
Boeing may have pissed off Delta Airlines because of this situation, but Delta as it stands it only has 4 aircraft on order from Boeing 12/2021 ?
why so much hashtags
Amazing trip report! Lucky to fly the inaugural.
Great look. I'm glass AC went with the -300 aircraft.
Such a beautiful aircraft
Can you do a trip report in Kelowna?
Flew one today YYZ TO YHL. 12A / 12C . Very smooth and comfortable..
Big fan of Air Canadas new Livery, especially on this airplane.
6 foot 8 ,holy Alex you are a giant🤣🤣🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
The world is his oyster. My problem is not long legs unfortunately. My shoulders are too wide.
This is nice Alex and those new planes are sick I flew with them before.
i worked on the cs100 prptotype and i can tell you its over all a really great plane
Does this aircraft to places from Vancouver to Fort Saint John ?
Great report, and I like that you point out the good and the bad. I agree that the Cabin Crew are really cramped in that back galley and when they pull out their 2 service carts they basically block access to one of the aft washrooms. I was on the inaugural flight from YUL-YYC. Like you I purchased a "comfort seat" and "Bistro ticket" but made a critical error in my booking by taking the aisle seat on the 3 abreast side.Yes, the seats are wider on the A220 but that is irrelevant if you board in zone 5 to find your row is occupied by a "Plus Sized" passenger who already has the arm rests in the up position to create a bench for himself because he can't fit the seat. I had a miserable experience in my aisle seat sharing the leg room under the seat in front of me with my plus sized neighbour to say nothing about the heat from his body through direct contact! I now realize I should have bought both seats on the 2 abreast side to avoid this or taken the aisle seat in the first row of the economy cabin as the armrests are fixed with the tray tables inside. I had the Mac n cheese with my Bistro ticket. The male flight attendant warned me that it would take 30 minutes to heat up and I was cool with that. After about an hour and a half I had to go to the back galley and ask the female flight attendant if she knew anything about my order and she sheepishly opened up the oven and pulled out a lonely box of Mac N' Cheese. Then she admitted the male flight attendant forgot who ordered it and I guess they weren't about to get on the P/A and ask the owner of the Mac N' Cheese to please identify him/herself as there were a lot of Corporate Air Canada people from YUL on board.
Are you sponsored by Air Canada for this report? I am curious what you paid for your seat as I noticed the Y class comfort seat on Jan 16th, 2020 was priced higher from YYC-YUL than the same seat on the inaugural flight from YUL-YYC in Jan 16th, 2020. The J class fare at $2400.00 was not good value for a 4hr 30 minute flight IMHO. I paid just over $500.00 for my Comfort seat which was anything but comfortable. If Air Canada could have told me I'd be sharing my seat with a Plus Sized passenger I would have gladly paid $1000.00 for the 2 seats on the left side of the aircraft!
This flight was 100% paid for by myself, I always make a disclaimer at the start of a video if they're sponsored or not. I paid a standard fare, but the higher fare classes were oddly inflated.
Air Canada Airbus A220-300 Series is Awesome fa sure I hope too fly on with JetBlue soon!!!!
So exciting: I'll be flying A220 from San Jose to Toronto in May! Fantastic city pair!!! How about San Jose to Ottawa?
A flight from an airport named after a local hero to an airport named after a couple men I won't entirely compare to him.
Very good Video
Beautiful. Did it have a new car smell?
This is exciting! I have to fly mostly on the smaller regional jets. Can't wait until these replace those jets.
As Guatemalan Gnome , no need for leg room, love youre videos
A great video. Flight and cabin crews, passengers like it for its comfort and flight operations like for its operational flexibility. I think the A220 family is going to be a winner for Airbus like the A320 family has. With regards to its toilets, Bombardier/Airbus offer both styles of rear gallery/toilet configuration. The preferred galley/toilet configuration is the toilets with a window and bigger gallery.
Was it really that quiet?
