Trust me everyone says the exact same thing when they first meet Jotaro but by the time they reach the middle point of stardust crusaders they love Jotaro. I have seen the entirety of JoJo's and he is my favorite jojo. I ain't joking.

Jotaro design is like a Japanese punk teen. He’s rude, he drinks party style, disrespects his elders and women, and has a tough guy facade. However, it’s a facade, that’s the point as you’ll come to see. He’s tough on the outside, and super rude to his mom. But he actually values her alot and cares what happens to the people around him. He’s super big on justice, and very compassionate and selfless when push comes to shove. Just with his actions, not his personality lol. As you know by now I think, he didn’t really have a dad in his life for long and represses his emotions. It’s a tough guy persona he puts up. Not that he’s actually soft, he can and will throw hands in the most calculated and minimalist fashion. You’ll hate him at first, but you’ll love him very quickly. I think, like with Joseph’s introduction contrasting him with Jonathan as being brash and arrogant; Jotaro’s introduction is supposed to contrast heavily with the previous 2 characters in the first episode, but then you get to see what he’s really about later as they build up the character over time. Hence the sudden and unexpected reaction he has to his mom, with the text slam onto the screen and sound effects and everything lol.

FUN FACT: JOESEPH DONT EVEN HAVE TO BREAK THE CAMERAS TO USE HERMIT PURPLE BUT HE SAYS HE DOES BECAUSE HE JUST WANTS TO BREAK STUFF

Joseph’s Stand Hermit Purple is more of an expansion of his “Your next line is…” gimmick. It gives him a limited amount of clairvoyance, and gives him insight into his opponent and surrounding environment. Hermit Purple is a visual representation of Hamon. The writer even said that if characters time travelled back to the time of Part 2, they would see Hermit Purple surrounding young Joseph.

My opinion on Jotaro is that’s he’s definitely cool, but the problem is that’s ALL he is. He’s just “cool.” He’s not honorable like Jonathan or tricksy like Joseph or kind like Part 4’s Josuke, he’s JUST “cool.” That means he’s got the least depth out of all the JoJos, and is my least favorite. I don’t hate him, but he’s boring early on.
Keep up the fire videos man, Part 3 can be a bit of a slog at times but I know you can make it through this!

Nah I think there’s a lot more to him. He’s based off the western heroes a la Clint Eastwood. He’s cool yes, but he’s the quick thinking, aloof, stoic with a fighting spirit, intellect, courage, and a sense of vigilante justice. Think about him condemning brainwashed Kakyoin for what he did, and letting DIO have one more crack, “duel” before he beat him. His favorite film is also Never Cry Wolf (a very cerebral film). He has a ph.D and works as a marine biologist and as a scientist for the speedwagon foundation. The way he wins all his fights is through outsmarting his enemies, he doesn’t just punch everything, that comes later on.
Yeah, it’s not savory how he addressed his mother, but I’m sure he is bound to grow out of it. (and he did as you can see in part 4) after all, he loved his mother enough to fight his way to Egypt to save her without a second thought
I find his combination of brains and brawn to be quite compelling, and the fact that you can see how strongly he can feel about things and the people he loves. I think he inherited Jonathan’s righteous fury and valor as well. He’s among my favorite Jojos if not my favorite
Also, assuming we go off the labels you stated, why can’t “cool” work the same way as “honorable” for Jonathan, “tricky” for Joseph, and “kind” for Josuke? Does being the “cool” jojo inherently make him less deep?

@@megamaster1610Kakyoin affronts his sense of honor, he believes in justice, he locked himself in prison by his own accord because he was afraid of the danger he would pose to others (not subtext, im pretty sure this was more or less stated) and he fought with people to keep himself inside. He also gave DIO a chance to complete the fight face to face with him and let his legs heal (because he essentially wanted a fair fight of sorts, a duel if you will) more examples to list probably but this is off the top of my head.

Im pretty sure Jotaro represses his emotions. I heard a pretty good theory once that Star Platinum is a reflection of his frustration, where he's normally quiet and straining in his tone, Star Platinum is sheer brutality.
His character gets more interesting from there. Trust me, he's a good guy. You'll see it through the whole series.
