Ticket drops are awful but if I want a ticket to a game and I keep checking the website I can usually get one. I’ve not missed out on any game I’ve wanted to go to yet
I live in the US in NY and earn a good wage. Coming home for xmas and wanted to go to the Newcastle game and I feel priced out of going, which i s a shame considering how infrequently I am home and get to go to a game. Upper tier ticket for $150-200 is scandalous
People need to boycott games en masse as occurred in 2010 in Germany at Schalke and Dortmund when price hikes took them to almost double in one season.
It's a disgrace the amount of hospitality/executive seats available and the price they charge. I'm sure alot of the tickets that get sold back to the club don't resell for the original cost and end up as hospitality/executive seats.
I went to 2 games in September one ticket was 45 pound for twenty but once you pay the booking fee more like 55 and the other ticket for the Tottenham game was 110 pound each. Felt terrible and especially the toenham game 110 quid to watch that shit
Its all over the country the local fans are vwing priced out and tourists and casual fans are coming in more.... which is why the atmosphere across the staidums is atrocious
Meh, atmosphere's been shite for longest time at OT, nothing new in the 17+ years I've been going. I'd argue average age going up of those at games impacts atmosphere way more. Deffo against insane price rises, but the issue of tourists always came from our own ST holders flogging tickets, not the club. Hence the new tech they've bought in to limit it. 'Casual' fans is also a reach, most of those will be people born & bred within 30 miles, it's just an example of how demand has outstripped a 2 decade old 75k capacity, I know so many young reds who just can't get a ST so go to the odd games. Biggest reason for why we need a 105k minimum capacity with fresh allocations for under 25/30ss.
I’ve been having this same conversation recently about the cost of other forms of entertainment such as live music. I think something the organisers or in this case the club needs to take in to account when setting ticket prices is how long does a fan earning minimum wage have to work to afford to go to the game and what do they get in return? So in this case your fan has to work nearly six hours in exchange for 90 minutes of entertainment. This is before spending anything else such as cost of transport, a beer maybe something to eat. Add that in and your matchday experience costs an entire days labour. With this in mind it’s no surprise that the average age of fans is getting higher and higher each season. The short sightedness of these decisions is staggering to me, putting short term profits over the long term health of the club and fan base. As pointed out in the video, the fact that ticket revenue makes up such a small proportion of top flight teams revenue shows this up for exactly what it is greed. The protests are a start but until the clubs are willing to sit down with the fan base nothing will change. Perhaps this is where an independent football regulator as proposed by the previous government could actually make an impact and give fans a voice via their MP(feel dirty agreeing with anything a Tory has to say)
Cost of living crisis isn't affecting the record profits of big energy companies and supermarkets like tesco. Who aren't struggling. Not like it's affecting the working class.
Good content. In the UK football fans are being milked. While clubs and players rake in millions. German football treat their fans with respect. Until we get government intervention to force similar protection for our clubs and our fans, football is being lost to the greedy barstools who have stolen our game.
Pretty much. Demand just far outstrips supply as the older generation hog ST's till death. Biggest issue is capacity, we need a 105k+ stadium with fresh allocations to under 30s/25s. In a way you'll never win, people get mad at tourism, but it's almost always ST holders who sell those tickets, when club brings in a system/tech to limit that...people are still mad. In a way you can't win. But there's deffo gains to be made with a new stadium/policy that allows fresh rotation of seats/sections to local fans....who often make up the bulk of people that many class as 'tourists/casuals', when in fact they just can't get/afford a full ST & prefer going to odd game. As for prices...you've sadly gotta accept a certain amount of rises, unless the football business model changes/cost cap is brought in. Even then, don't expect yank capitalists to go easy on you.
If you want a successful campaign you need a coordinated, well organised, media savvy campaign to raise awareness in order to affect change. You need a narrative of unfairness and greed that mainstream media can use and then you can apply pressure to the relevant people. Only if they feel they are losing a very public PR battle that will negatively impact their brand will they concede for the sake of their public image.
I had the membership for a very long time and 4 season ago added my son as well and no matter how many hours I spend in queues and getting onto app once tickets released I still not managed to be able to get the affordable tickets it’s always seems to only be hospitality seats at £299+ per ticket and that’s a joke in all honesty . Hotel breaks do it cheaper and that is with stay over membership and few I seen recently have included hospitality and for at least £100 less than the club .
As a United fan, i can only afford tickets for games in the Europa league and cup games against some teams no one has heard of. Still upwards of £50 afters fees, that's not including travel or food. Now imagine trying to get a £200 standard seat in SAF stand against Fulham. Unnecessary greed as Steve said.
Edit: The Glazers have taken £166,000,000 in dividends since 2005. If every seat in the stadium cost £50 and the Glazers paid for fans' seats through dividends, they'd be able to fill 75,000 seats 44 times. Now that's money well spent.
Im a dad of 2 boys united crazy household and there's not a chance I'll be able to take them, moneys tight , i got the love of united in the 90/91 season as a young kid going in the e stand behind the Stretford end for £3 which i paid for with my paper round money , how times have changed .... got to take them bury fc now to watch live football, United are losing a generation of supporters
All these people complaining saying they can't afford a price increase ,but then we say a players need to work harder ,take your own advise go work harder make more money and buy the ticket if you can't just like the players who are not good need replacing the same with the fans .
So with tickets at 66 minimum that’s 132 quid just for tickets if you want to take son / daughter to a game … so 200 quid by time you have a burger / drink / travel / programme etc. Local supporters being priced out
Absolute disgrace. Had to give up my season ticket because I just can’t afford it. With all the home draws it’s impossible for me to make all the games and it’s so frustrating.
Sadly this is indicative of everything in the country at the moment where good people are protesting and being ignored. I wish anyone who takes part in the protest the absolute best for making the effort. The excuse of sustainability is absolutely null and void unless they start capping players wages. I’ve never wanted a new stadium but if Jim wants it he can liquidate his own assets and fund it… it’s not like he’s Britains richest man, oh wait…
This is silly. How can you protest a business setting prices? It's literally supply vs. demand, if the price is too high, people won't go. We all know they will tho hence pricing being justified.
It’s really disappointing by the club this. Me and my son are members, and getting tickets this season has been harder than ever. The concession price for him being under 16 I thought was really good of the club. But for them to now take it away, mid season, is really disappointing. It basically takes the cost from say, £80/100 per match (inc parking) to nearer £150. £150!!! But why take this out on the kids? Why should they suffer the price hike? The other thing I have noticed, looking for tickets after this announcement, is that £66 are few and far between anyway. They are £99, £199, and even more! But let’s face it, we know where this is going. OT seems to have increased its hospitality offerings, as that’s where they make the most money. And for all those dreaming of a new stadium, careful what you wish for. Because the main reason they will do it, is to increase prices and offer even more hospitality. It’s about revenue and profits now. And the normal fan who wants to take his/her son or daughter to a game, will be pushed out.
United kept their prices the same for quite a long time while other teams increased theirs. Its not just the stadium cost, but with rising energy bills, how much extra do you think united are paying for their electricity???
Prices and the growing amount of money spent by PL clubs are detracting fans from remaining engaged with the clubs. Minor leagues are seen a particular increase in attendance as a result

I disagree. If you have let's say, 30 home games a season across all comps. Now, let's do the math on this: 30 X 74,000 = 2,200,000. Not really a luxury if you can sell it to 2.2 MILLION people now is it? Football is the working class game and should always remain within reach of the working class. Many can’t afford it literally because the price is too high. It didn’t used to be a luxury. When I first started going it was a few quid a ticket. If you’re happy to see working class fans priced out of the game totally then that’s bizarre. And do you think that doesn’t impact the atmosphere at games? There is absolutely no need to charge fans this much. Clubs across the world don’t do it. It’s a choice to make a certain percentage of the club’s income from tickets. It’s not a necessity for it to be as high. The sponsorship and TV income is huge. Maybe start paying players and agents less. Premier League clubs could do that across the board or via regulation re max caps on tickets or agent fees. The Premier League would still be dominant in the global market re wages and fees.
