  • The AMG badge means performance, the Mercedes Benz badge means comfort, luxury, and tech. And though there's some controversy over dropping the twin-turbo V6 for a turbo-four, the incoming W206's F1 inspired, hand-built M139 motor makes more power than the outgoing W205's M276. The new motor, with it's electrified turbo, makes 402-hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. It's mated to a 9-speed SpeedShift (MCT/multi-clutch) transmission. Power goes through all four wheels with a heavy rear bias at a ratio of 31:69. It's tough not to look at this 2023 with high expectations. And can it hold up against a BMW M340i? Let's take a look and see how this luxury sports sedan is to live with.

Are you taking the C43 over an M340i? Let me know which you'd choose.

In hindsight I wish I did. I hated my c43 so much that after 6 months I traded my c43 for a BMW 330i.

Also wished these review videos were available before I purchased c43. Worse car I ever purchased.

Oof. Man, I'm sorry to hear that. That's super frustrating. How are you liking the 3 series?

From April, I went service 6 times, backup camera has changed, rear tire pressure monitoring system was gone, random check engine lights came out couple of times, and ongoing jerky shifting issue. I've looking to get out of this car without losing 10k but it doesn't seem possible. As a former BMW owner, I wouldn't think a second about picking the m340 over 2023 c43

Very great review. Thank you. It’s a beautiful car and I’m doing my homework to see if I should purchase. None are available yet where I live for a test drive. But the transmission I’ve heard the same thing from other reviewers and then there is this one reviewer pointed out that she had the same problem until the transmission was in the correct operating temperature. She said it took about 10 miles to get there. She also pointed out that it was clunky, but when she looked down at the gauges, everything was hot but the transmission, so have you experienced any of that thank you.

Thank you for the kind words! That's frustrating that you can't find one to test out. That's a good observation about the transmission being cold potentially, even when everything else was warm. I wish I had thought to check that specifically. I don't remember if the clunkiness was just when it was cold or not. Honestly though, it would be quite frustrating to have to wait for the transmission to warm up so much before getting smooth shifts, especially when the competition doesn't have these problems. And combined with the lugging and strange decisions by the trans, as well as the auto start/stop, it just feels like too many compromises. Just my 2 cents, but I hope you can find one to test yourself before making your final decision.

My brother works at a MB dealership and he is so upset with the latest touch capacitive and multi displays in the newest models.

Yeah, it's really frustrating to see. Hopefully it doesn't last too long and they go back to the nice metal buttons and rollers.

thank you for the great review. It's a great car on paper. as an owner of a 2019 w205 C43, i have to say that I am kind of disappointed. we had the chance to drag and roll race mine with a w206 C43 and guess what. the 205 took both races (i'd keep my w205C43 just for the sound of the performance exhaust system)

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, it looks great on paper. This is probably the most disappointing car I've driven in terms of expectations vs reality. Very frustrating. I haven't driven the W205, but it sounds like keeping that one is the move.

I’m sorry I’ve had this for 2 months now, daily driving.. it learns how you drive and smoothens out very nicely.. in the first week it was jerky but I learnt the car and it learned my driving style and very rarely happens now. Capacitive buttons are easy to use ( again after getting used to like any new car ) I think Canada / North America spec might be not that great compared to the UK, panoramic roof, carbon fiber standard in premium plus.

Thanks for the comment! Really glad to hear it gets better, and that your experience is way more positive than mine! Hope you love it and congrats on the car!
