Thank you for making these videos! Since I was in middle school, the Narnia saga, had been my favorite! It really offer an escape for me. My two fave books are the voyage of the dawn treader and the boy and the horse.
These are fantastic videos! I just portrayed Jadis in a local production of Narnia, and these gave such a comprehensive look into a few different details that I overlooked even when reading the books! My absolute FAVORITE Narnian villain, and these videos do her justice❄️
Thanks you for the two videos. I enjoyed both of them. I’ve read the chronicles of narnia dozens of times and each time I feel like I’m transported into the land of narnia and each time it seems like I discover a detail I hadn’t before. I always find it amusing to find that most people are unaware that there are actually 7 books that make up the chronicles of narnia. Whenever someone mentions it people automatically think about the lion, the witch and the wardrobe which is actually the 2nd book in the series. I personally am fascinated by the silver chair which is book 6 in the series. I like to imagine that the witch in the silver chair is Jadis in another form or body. The book doesn’t come out and say it but kind of eludes to it enough for speculation. Can you do a video about the possibility that the witch in the silver chair could be Jadis?
Funny you should ask! I recently released a two-part series on the Silver Chair's green witch, and discuss in detail the theories of her origin. You can check out Part 1 here: ua-cam.com/video/RNUmY4LhNAk/v-deo.html

Oh and I must pick a nit: You said Jadis shapeshifted to avoid being seen by Susan and Lucy, but that was in fact to hide from the Narnians Alsan sent to rescue Edmund. It was Susan and Lucy who had to hide from _her!_ :)

Could you talk about all the visual adaptations of Narnia (the BBC series, the Disney films, and maybe the upcoming Netflix stuff) and how they compare to the original novels? For example, I think the Prince Caspian film actually adds a lot of good stuff to the story (like the castle sequence and small rivalry between Peter and Caspian), but I'd love to hear what you think about the different adaptions. Y'know I think people get The Snow Queen (Hans Christian Anderson) and Jadis mixed up, while they have a lot in common like riding around in a sleigh and having pale white skin, The Snow Queen is not that evil and her personality remains as cold as her heart, Jadis on the other hand is completely evil and has many outbursts of anger
Excellent video about an incredibly interesting character! I don't recall if this was ever asked/answered, and didn't see it in a brief review of the comments, but is there a reason the Tree of Protection died or was it just always a temporary measure? Thank you for covering this wonderful lore!
Great question. It was never explained, though there's some reason to believe that the Narnian tree and its counterpart in England were somehow metaphysically connected (the tree in England would move even when there was no wind, etc.). There is a theory that when the tree in England blew over in a storm, the Narnian tree also died.
@@IntotheWardrobe Oh yes, I do recall hearing/reading about that now! This isn't a confirmed plot point? Seems like something that should be made clear.
The origins of the wardrobe: In The Magians Nephew, young professor kurt was given one of the apples from the tree of protection from aslan to heal his mother. After she had eaten a bite kurt planted the seeds which grew into a tree, but one faithful day a storm blew it down and the professor didn’t want it to be chopped for fire, he turned it into a wardrobe which still contained some of the magic from the apple. This entrance to Narnia wouldn’t be used anymore but it wouldn’t be the last time Peter, Susan, Lucy & Edmaund would go to Narnia!
Very interesting character. I wonder how Tash would compare to her? Maybe do a video about him? I read the books like 20 years ago I barely remember him.
Depends. To the Calormen Tash was their righteous Deity just as Aslan was for the Narnians and even Aslan said that Tash and he are one in the same to those with pure hearts (And since the whole series was a Christian Fairytale its safe to say that the Christians are Narnians and Calormen are Muslims since their deities are one in the same just viewed differently)
@@shiekahfan01 Well it depends on what you mean as viewed "the same" because I would argue that Aslan and Tash are both nicer and more benevolent then the Christian god Yahweh/Jesus and the Islamic god Allah. In Aslan's cases he isn't the blood thirsty tyrant slaughtering entire races of people men, women and children like Yahweh is in the various racial genocides he orders. He does not judge children for their parent's actions. The only thing I think Aslan did that was morally questionable was mauling Aravis for escaping from her parents just because her slave got mauled. Then again I would argue that neither Aslan nor any iterations of the Abrahamic god are all good and that Aslan is more benevolent then him. Likewise unlike Yahweh, Jesus or Allah he dosen't damn people simply for not believing in him. Quite the opposite Emeth a virtuous Calormen person for existence who worshiped Tash his entire life and held no belief in Aslan or saw Aslan was evil was still allowed into Aslan's Country because due to living his life in virtue it was an act of worship to him as only good can be done in worship to Aslan and only evil for Tash. The exact opposite of Christianity. Which places orthodoxy as opposed to orthopraxy as it's central tenent of salvation and belief as opposed to virtue is the center part of salvation. Then again I also wouldn't argue that the Jewish, Christian or Islamic god is virtuous far from it he is one of the most evil deities ever worshiped on this planet I would argue even representing the worst aspects of what people call toxic masculinity as opposed to heroic masculinity. Another thing that separates both Aslan and Tash as well as their respective religions is that there religions are actually polytheistic. Many Pagan Gods appear as allies to Aslan like Bacchus the androgynous God of Wine, Pleasure and Liberation as well as essentially The Orphic Sect's equivalent to Jesus and indeed Dionysus's worship as the Dying and Rising God that grants his followers Liberation in the afterlife predates Jesus's Mystery sect. More then that you also see Silenus a Deity in the retinue of Dionysus, Pomona the Goddess of Apples and Orchards in Rome etc and many River Gods. Likewise with Tash he is said to atleast have two other Gods worshiped besides him all though their allegiance to Tash isn't well known namely Azeroth and Zardeenah. We don't know Azeroth's gender all though some speculated her to be female and in many ways Zardeenah is almost like an Arabic Verison of Artemis as the Goddess of Virgins and Young Maidens that protects them and Aravis would have been expected to offer sacrifice to her before she was married as a sort of a transition from girl to woman. We also know that Zardeenah is associated with the night. So rather Narnia is a Polytheistic society with Aslan as the lead God. In many cases more so similar to the early polytheistic Hebrews who like their Canaanite ancestors were polytheistic. Yahweh himself was one of the 70 Sons of El Elyon and Athirat the King and Queen of the Canaanite Gods and Goddesses aka the Elohim or Host of Heaven.. In the later Hebrew period Yahweh was syncretized with his former Father El Elyon and inherited his former mother Athirat or who the Hebrews called Asherah as his wife. Likewise I would argue that Aslan's Father The Emperor Beyond the Sea is a rather stupid figure then again the Abrahamic god shows his dunce side on occasion but specifically with The Emperor why in the world would he make Jadis his Hangman and give her authority to execute evil doers. Why would he give a woman like her the position of this. That just makes no rational sense. Then again I would argue that the Satan character in Christianity also makes as little sense either but the stories do fall apart when you eat from the Tree of Wisdom that Our Mother Gave us.
@@mariaavalon3730 ... literally C.S.Lewis stated that the Chronicles of Narnia are just a set of Christian fairytales and that Aslan is supposed to represent Jesus soooo
@@shiekahfan01 Sure he can say that and to him that may be true. My point is that Aslan is of a very much nicer and more benevolent character in comparison to the Abrahamic Yahweh, Jesus or Allah and beyond that Narnia promotes many ideas that are outright heterodox to Christianity certainly most "mainstream" forms of Christianity. I could like wise say that Sailor Moon especially in the third season Sailor Moon S was inspired by certain aspects of Jesus or in her case more Feminine Dying and Rising Saviors like Persephone, Inanna/Ishtar, Kwan Yin etc. In fact I would argue that Sailor Moon represents a more Pagan Feminine Messianic Dying and Rising Goddess Figure in comparison to Aslan who has alot of Pagan Elements (which I would regard that all of the Abrahamic faiths took elements from Paganism but that is another story) plus with her it is the exact opposite view. In many ways she promotes the very Shinto Love of Life, The Earth, Humanity as opposed to the ideas of the Abrahamic faiths that sees the Earth, Humanity as innately evil. In Christianity and Islam both desire the end of the world and see it as a good thing which in turn many of the villains on Sailor Moon do as well. Sailor Moon on the other hand is the exact opposite. Fighting against the world destroying villains to prevent the end of the world and to sustain it. I would likewise argue that the character Nausicaa of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind has Dying and Rising Savior Elements however Her story is even more so based on the pre Abrahamic Feminine Dying and Rising Daughter Gods then even Sailor Moon. Especially in the end of her dying and rising rising and floating above the fields of gold with the Blue Dress she wore.
@@mariaavalon3730 ok but by your point you're just ignoring the author's words and putting your own opinions in. So forgive me if i don't put any stock or faith into what you're saying from this point onwards.
It was a bit tricky but I actually did mean 1000. You have to include the 900 years she spent in exile the Wildlands of the North, when (according to Aslan) she continued to grow in her magical power. Thanks so much for listening carefully, though. I'd be thrilled if everyone engaged st this level of detail.
ME: Will the real Snow Queen please stand up? QUEEN JADIS: I am the real Snow Queen, I rule for a millennium! QUEEN FREYA: I personified the "Evil Queen" meme! QUEEN ELSA: My movies were far more successful than both of yours!
SNOW QUEEN: Hello, that's literally me, the embodiment of cold - and no Elsa, you're not me, I didn't see you looking after kids infected by demon shard dust.
The White Witch is not the Snow Queen. She is more like a Death Queen. She killed everyone in Charn, she enjoys killing in Narnia, she puts creatures in a temporary deathlike state by turning them into stone, she puts nature in a state of "death" by making it winter for a long period. If anything, she is the Death Queen. She represents death: when Aslan resurrects, she is conquered.
I always wondered a few things I wish Lewis had made clear... 1) Why didnt the Inhabitants of Narnia plant more silver trees? 2) Whatever happen to the old rules of Narnia before Jadis war? 3) WTH is Aslans father, how exactly does he effect the universe If ASLAN created it, should not the deep magic be his? 4) What exactly were the other lands doing while the white witch was ruling Narnia, did she never plan on invading them too? 5) why does he keep having these massive time jumps and not telling us what happen to characters in the story.
Wow! Great questions. Here are my thoughts: 1) The books really don't say much about the tree of protection outside of the Magician's Nephew. We do know that the fruit of the tree of protection was able to propagate, as it's fruit was able to produce a tree that grew in Digory's backyard in our world. The only exclamation I can think of is that there are some plants which release chemical signals that prevent other plants from growing nearby. We know that the tree protection obviously released strong chemical signals as they were the signals that kept the White Witch out of the entire country. perhaps the same signals prevented any other tree of protection from growing within the country. 2) while not stated in the books, you can assume they were either killed or driven into exile, because by the time the children enter Narnia there have been no humans in the land for quite some time. 3) I don't think the deep magic is described as belonging to anyone--it just exists. It was created. How does asan's Father affect the universe? It seems that Aslan is subservient to the great emperor across the sea, so we can assume that aslan's actions in Narnia come as a result of his father's directives. 4) Jadis' probably did have aspirations to one day control the whole world, much like she wanted to do in Charn. Something tells me she's not the type of person to be content with what she's already attained. as we read about in the horse and his boy other countries were quite aware of the magical enchantment over Narnia and had heard rumors of the Wich's power. They were staying as far away from Narnia as possible during that time. 5) Lewis has certainly received much criticism throughout the years for jumping through time and not really continuing any single character's story very well. From a practical standpoint, my guess is that time jumps allow for an overall continuity in the universe, but give the opportunity to create a clean canvas that helps to write new stories without too much complexity. The explanation within the story however is that Narnia and time and Earth time are not linked, therefore it's impossible to know what time you're entering Narnia anytime youre taken there.
@@IntotheWardrobe Yeah, the Narnia time thing never made sense to me... Even in Lewis' day and age, time was still understood to be a linear thing, perceived by humans as a means to catalog one instant from another. Whether or not the world was on a different plain of existence, or was a world between world, and one could argue that maybe the day and night cycles were different, twenty years there and twenty years here should still be relatively the same amount of time. I felt like the Time device was more a cop out to allow the heroes to be reset to Zero, though again that didnt make much sense either
@@IntotheWardrobe While I agree with you mostly, there's a few things I have to add. 1.) I think it's also safe to assume that Aslan just told them not to plant anymore of those trees, and since it was established permission plays a big part in the magic of those trees working, even if they tried I don't think it would've worked unless He told them they could. 3.) The Deep Magic IS Aslan's Fathers. It said to be inscribed on His scepter. That said, since Aslan in these book is Jesus, and Jesus is part of the Trinity with The Father and The Spirit, I think it's safe to assume that He created Narnia just as much as Aslan. This is even supported in the book, as when Aslan is singing to create Narnia, we're told that 3 voices can be heard in the melody; ie, the three parts of the Trinity.
The Emperor Beyond The Sea a.k.a Aslan father is basically representation of God the Father. And Aslan is The Son. They are one and the same, but appear as different person. Working in perfect unity.
What about the Emperor from beyond the sea wasn't the deep magic his? Wasn't she his hangman at some point? I watched the animated movie so yeah I got some questions
I think this is just a continuity issue. In the Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe, she was the Emperor's hangman and descended from djinns and giants but in the Magician's Nephew, she was a queen from an alien world.
I think when Mr. Beaver called her the Emperor's Hangman, it was a wisecrack. Jadis: According to the Emperor's Law, I have the right to kill traitors. Mr. Beaver: Oh yeah? What were you, his hangman? I cannot imagine Aslan's father hiring her for anything, or her following his orders.
@@talithakoum3922 I think you are right its a shot at Jadis trying to justify herself by claiming to kill in the name of the Emperor beyond the Sea. The problem was she was against what the Emporer beyond the Sea wished. A parallel to those claiming to kill in Gods name despite being against the true word of God.

if you can read between the lines then you see she does this is why she feared him and also the reason she did not truly understand the deep magic behind the world itself as her being from another far older world and having fallen so far could not understand the true power of love friendship and the magic they have within a person and considering Aslan is a direct connection to our own worlds gods or if you are a follower of the one god then she would not be able to understand his true power nor the power behind his world as all people follow faith in gods in a different way and she was of the mind she was the only true power she could not understand the truth behind the worlds created by a being like Aslan as they were Alien to her
@@maxrander0101when you read the Magician's Nephew, it is clear that Jadis knows exactly what Aslan is and the relationship between worlds.
She simply underestimates Aslan all the time
@@DanBeech-ht7sw i know that book says she does but given that she does not fully understand the deep magic of Narnia i dont think she really truly understood it but thought she did thus she failed to see what Aslan was doing when he gave his life for ED

Yes, all sorts of mythology is woven into narnia
Aslan the MVP
"it doesn't have to rhyme, it's a prophesy!" :D
Nice call back - Aslan said that because she took the apple at the wrong time in the wrong method she would be immortal but miserable, so now she's queen of Narnia she's unsatisfied with it because as Beaver pointed out, she's always thinking about the prophecy saying she'd be overthrown by four human children.

These are fantastic videos! I just portrayed Jadis in a local production of Narnia, and these gave such a comprehensive look into a few different details that I overlooked even when reading the books! My absolute FAVORITE Narnian villain, and these videos do her justice❄️

Great man! Enjoyed it!
Thanks a ton!
"Ultimate Karen"... eehhh... i mean Jadis, wanted to see the manager... and she got him. Or should i say, He got Her at the end.
Aslan is no mere mismanager. He is the owner's son (the great emperor beyond the sea if I recall it right).

Dude this background music is top notch!
Imagine she used the deplorable word in a nick of time and just destroy every living creature.
+J M I guess Charn magic is not applicable on Narnia hence Earth is shown to be completely devoid of magic also
Charnic magic doesn't seem to work very well in other worlds. She had to figure out how to use the inherent magic in Narnia before she could do much.
i would love an in depth look at a possible disciple of the White Witch: the Lady of the Green Kirtle aka the Queen of Underland
Well done indeed !
Oh and I must pick a nit: You said Jadis shapeshifted to avoid being seen by Susan and Lucy, but that was in fact to hide from the Narnians Alsan sent to rescue Edmund. It was Susan and Lucy who had to hide from _her!_ :)
You're absolutely correct! Funny how our minds can create scenes that didn't exist. Thanks for checking--want to be my proofreader?!? :-)
Wow! Very very good!
A ton of references from Christianity in the story when I was younger never really noticed.
In magic, ice and stone, and the defeating of the illusion known as joy, without balance by fire and air, indicate she is the stoppage of life force because she's gone too extreme as where all things require equal balance.

Hey, how about talking about Puddleglum? Rarely do people talk about him
It would be amazing if Netflix did the Charn series with young Diggory and Tilda Swinton as White Witch once again with the conquering London scenario and world of Charn empire of red sun.
You just described The Good Friday when Christ laid down his life for us. Happy April fools day, and happy Easter to all.
Thanks!

Well done! This is fanstastic! What software did you use to create the video animations & edit the video together?
Thanks for the encouragement. Most of the animation and editing work is done in Adobe Premiere.

Great job! How about the origins of the wardrobe? Who made it? How did it get linked to Narnia?
I think I know a guy who builds a pretty decent Wardrobe too!

5:47 For the first time in a thousand years, the queen's magic was weakening.
I think you mean 100 years, not 1000.

Here are my thoughts:
1) The books really don't say much about the tree of protection outside of the Magician's Nephew.
@@IntotheWardrobe
Yeah, the Narnia time thing never made sense to me...

Tell him I'm adding it to the list!
