Turning off Noise cancelling to off or transparency a few times and they turning it back on gradually fix it.. because it does a hard reset. Sorry but this is a complete waste of time. It’s asking people to reboot, reinstall and clean their computer. The problem is a s/w issue caused probably by h/w environmental changes. To noise cancel it needs to calibrate, but if the mic for example is dirty then white noise is caused. Apple needs to fix the s/w but apparently they are not. The video is misleading because it’s too generic.. and misses the important point

Mine is on right side during transparency mode. I can duplicate it by touching the charging pad of the airpod. Seem the metal touching my face and create static noise. Let me know if you can duplicate it as well
It's the microphone. Turning off Noise Cancelling and Transparency completely eliminates the crackling problem. Firmware update? I did the whole plug in the pods in the case, restart your iPhone - still on setting A6... B is a newer firmware version. Typical. Why is there not clear instructions on that mostly blank Version screen?? Or a button? I guess I can still use noise cancelling on airplanes as the crackling issue is minor compared to the jet engines. I don't think I'll ever buy another pair of AirPods again. I paid a lot of money for headaches I don't get with $20 ones. I've got a pair of noise cancelling over the ear headphones (Technic?) that are almost 40 years old. I used them in my shop, replaced the ear cups when they rotted away they still work great. I tried Bose, but when step one was download our app... I packed them up and sent them back. Sure app for extra features, but just to work? I'm sick of that crap. Over ten years ago I predicted we'd all have a legacy machine running legacy software that still works. It'd be AirGapped for security. I've got a 2016 Macook Pro that thinks it's still 2017. Now I'm thinking my current MacBook might soon be air gapped and locked in 2022 with my only link to the outside my iPhone. Sorry to rant.
Try cleaning the black part that's supossed to be in your ear. There's another comment that suggests sucking and cleaning that black small part. I think that's the component related to the microphone and it fixed mines.
@@houghton97The Big Question here and for many years: Apple is a huge company, they sell these Air Pods at a premium price -- why are we left to guess at what's going on here? If you Google issues with the OS, IOS the hardware, the Apple links can be years old, be random guessing by other customers. Often mostly a waste of time. It's like we have this tech and when there's a problem we can choose, conspiracy, gimcrackery, prayer, voodoo, or throw money at it. This is why I've replaced my $160 AirPod Pros with Anker noise reducing pods that cost $35. They work the same, are less fussy. They don't insist on randomly syncing to my MacBook Pro (which I've never wanted them to do), if I lose one or it has a static noise, I'm only out $35. I listen to mostly audiobooks and phone conversations, so maybe the sound quality isn't as good. With music I've never thought the AirPod Pros were as good as all those raves.
Had mine replaced once every two months for the same reason every time. Sounds like a kazoo being blown into my ear. I just got out of warranty and Apple has told me exactly where I can stick them. Honestly done with this company.
Apple have issued a "recall" for this problem on 1st gen AirPods Pro valid for first 3 years of ownership. I found this a bit too late so I just ordered the AirPods Pro 2
That's exactly the kind of consumer behaviour that teaches Apple not to f- around with customers ;-) Well, who am I to talk. Had both generations of the Pro's but the newer ones got stolen earlier this year, and now my old 1st gen have the hissing, which brought me here... Still, probably gonna stay with the Airpods, all other pods I tried so far were even more disappointing....
I had this problem and my left AirPod was the issue. It had such bad cracking and feedback I could only used the right AirPod and the microphone during calls was hit and miss. Nothing from this video worked and then I noticed that the black fine perforated sensors were completely clogged with schmutz (epithelial material, oil, dirt, who knows?). I had to look very close at this area to see that the entire area was clogged... especially on the larger black surface on the exterior surface of the AirPod. I had a eureka moment... I teach drawing and tried taking a small bit of kneadable eraser and dabbed the perforated surfaces on the left AirPod. I could see that the clogged perforations were getting clean. After applying slightly more pressure I completely cleared both perforated surfaces on the left AirPod. No joy, it still crackled but not as bad. I noticed that the right AirPod's black fine perforated sensors were also completely clogged with schmutz. Then I thought maybe the issue with the left AirPod is exacerbated because the pair of AirPods communicate to provide noise cancelling and a clogged right AirPod could be the reason the left still had an issue. So I repeated the same process with the kneadable eraser and dabbed the perforated surfaces on the right AirPod. After the areas on both AirPods were cleaned the left unit works perfectly with no crackle or feedback and the sound from both is now like new!! This might also work with "bluetack" used to temporarily tack up posers and other paper to walls. Give it a shot.
Have had this problem on my airpods pro 2’s. Only had them a short time about 3 months. Irritating noise in left bud when in any of the noise cancelling settings were used. Got fed up with it. So thought i’d give them a soft suck/blow on the black parts on top and outer of the airpods. That seemed to clear the noise instantly. Wonder if fine dust or something is actually ingressing inside. Maybe it just loosened something. Do it at your own risk, and do not swallow them!

Mostly if you can use it without any noice cancellation, and transparency mode then this issue goes away. I assume that this is related to internal microphone because once you enable above modes internal mics will fire up. Maybe you can try to clear the bud, first remove the rubber ear tip and clean it with some solvent ( surgical sprit or something that’s not short and easily vaporising). But you need to have better luck even to be successful there. Or else you can pay Apple to change it.
