Our diet is very important for the absorption of nutrients but what we eat, our anatomy, and even other health conditions can affect the way our body absorbs certain vitamins. Today we will talk about why B12 and folate deficiency occurs, what symptoms to watch out for, how to diagnose these deficiencies, and how to treat these vitamin deficiencies.

    Great Video. You explained the topic really well. As a qualified Nutritionist, I agree that vitamin deficiency is a common problem these days. I share more tips on the warning signs of vitamin deficiency that our body shows and how to fix it naturally by eating the right foods on my channel.

    Levels too low and serum b12 isn't a very reliable test. I have neuropathy in legs with a serum B12 of 575 and folate of 8.9. High homocysteine. Genetic issues can also play a part.

      You have to take the right types for your body. Are you taking methylfolate or folinic acid? Also a methylated b12?

    You slipped up by calling folates folic acid which is a synthetic folate. They are not m etabolized the same way in the methylation cycle.

      Yes you would with those genetic issues. Cut out gluten though in your gut might get better. All of my gut issues went away when I stopped eating gluten.

    Thank you very much Doctor for the great information. As far as I understood the underlying course of my health problem is the immune system. Is there a way to improve or boost my immune system?

    B12 deficiency can be treated with ''Oral pills'' or ''Nasal Spray'' ? Does this not just increase the serum B12 ? How do Oral pills work if there are absorption issues. ? & how successful is Nasal spray. ?

    • @iMedSchool
      @iMedSchool  4 роки тому +1

      Even when absorption is impaired there is some absorption that still occurs. Using oral pills at high doses makes sure that the body absorbs as much B12 as it can even with its reduced capacity. Also oral B12 will only work for some conditions. Nasal spray can be effective as it bypasses the intestinal tract, but it is not covered well by insurance companies in my experience. Supplementing the B12 is just increasing serum B12 and does not address the underlying issue/cause. Unfortunately many, but not all, of the causes for B12 deficiency are permanent or do not have a treatment.

      My mom's h pylori was fixed by taking slippery elm bark everyday. That's the only that finally got rid of it. She was treated by her gastroenterologist for years.

    Sorry, guy. Your b12 snd folate levels are way low. My b12 is 500 and my folate is 10. My dr told me they are both on the low end of normal. B 12 should be 800 and folate 15.
