Hey Nigel, this is one of the greatest videos you've made by far. In my opinion. It's lovely to see your garden troubled by a storm and conflicted by rain. With little commentary but astounding in-house nature shots , bonus raccoon action, I've had immense pleasure watching and taking part in your eden.
Cool sounds of the rolling thunder. To water or not to water? Now comes the much needed rain. Magnificent sounds that one can sit and relax in the greenhouse and just listen with a cup of tea.
Hi, Nigel I am the guy that called you the other day from SIlver Spring Maryland. Been in Bonsai a long time, your presentation has inspired me to be more active. Thanks so much.
About the desert rose... I've also had trouble keeping them alive over the winter for the longest time. The only way they seem to survive when kept cool (12-14°C) ist no water at all. They then drop all leaves and with rising temperatures start growing again in spring or early summer. That's when I'd get them back into the greenhouse and start watering for the growing season. They seem to do quite a bit better this year. I've also tried keeping them warm and occasionally watered by the window, but they'd always be overrun by spider mites and scale insects and any other pest imaginable. So cold and dry it is, at least for now... 😅
I kept mine under a grow light in the basement over last winter. I only watered a couple of times all winter. It lost its leaves but they came back very healthy this spring. My basement is fairly humid as I have a spring that flows through it, but I think it might still be less humid than Nigel's plant room due to all of the plants and their wet soil.
This was a nice relaxing video, as are all of your videos. Raccoons sure are cute, but they can be so destructive, mainly to chickens. Keep a watch out for your birds. ❤
As some other viewers pointed out in different ways this video really gave me good vibes and joy. Sorry about the Desert Rose planting but yeah they are really sensitive or how to express it.
During winter uproot the desert Rose completely & keep them in shade with less humid area. Then when temperature rises plant it. It will keep them healthy
the fact that even you have trouble with desert roses cheers me up after mine got horrible root rot and all I could do is get cuttings off of it… I’m not watering them until they look like they desperately need it!
I have the same exact HAWS watering can as you. Same rose and everything. I feel like mine comes out a lot faster and harder than yours does though. I wish it was a little more gentle, but I can pretty much only use it on medium to larger sized trees and trees that are very established in their pots. weird. I always look forward to the succulent updates!
Cool multi-colored! Coo Ports! Yours is the Desert Rose and mine is the Ports. I cannot overwinter my Ports for some reason. I keep trying though. Desert Rose. I successfully got one through the winter by the north window of the basement with a minimum of water.
Great video Nigel! Raccoons now Eh?! Watch they don't go after the other animals. They are a problem here getting into chicken coops and rabbit hutches. I have never let my Adenium go dormant.Mine are still in the house, night temperatures still 6 to 8C at night.
Why not try repotting them all, and when you do, you vary the growing medium to drain more water off below the desert rose, and have a medium that retains more water in the areas with the plants that need it. you could even modify the pot to have more drainage holes under the area where you plan on planting the rose.
Hey Nigel, I don't believe that is a Queensland bottle tree at 9:20, they have more long skinny leaves that look like a hand. I have seen many and have one im about to bonsai myself
Hey Nigel I have a small maple tree I am Trying to grow I have a small seed start green house in my room I thought it was dead how do I get it back to life

Thanks Marysol, my wife is careful to keep her birds safe. We had a few cool nights here too, but now it's more like 18 C at night!

Hello Nigel, nice to see a lot of your trees, and in good health! Question: do you use your misting system in main greenhouse?
I don't, It is very effective, but I find it uses too much rainwater. Most of the time, I'm at home to water them more carefully by hand!
It's a great shame about Socotra Island but I guess there's a lesson there....
Every Desert Rose I kill, I learn something!!!
Good for sleeping. 🛌🏼
How many gallons a day does it take to water all your trees?
It takes about 20 gallons a day!
Free nitrogen :)
Hello
Hey Nigel how do I keep a maple tree key growing on the window sill
How do I
Light, water and good care.
Foist
Thanks Scott!! Have fun with Ryan!!
Hey Nigel I have a small maple tree I am
Trying to grow I have a small seed start green house in my room I thought it was dead how do I get it back to life
Sunshine, airflow and good watering!!! The rest is up to mother nature!
What colours your pee!? Haha
There are so many succulent plants that can be used for bonsai!!
Queensland bottle tree has narrow leaves that eventually look like palm of hand.
Thanks, I'll have to try and identify it!!!
