  • I was Stranded in snow miles from my remote cabin had hike through the wilderness in -31F to the cabin. Surviving winter storm Elliott on week of Christmas. My family will arrive the next day on Christmas Eve 12/24/2022 if the roads are passable by then. I need to get the log cabin ready for them. I was working out of town for a couple of days and tried to make it home on the coldest day ever. It’s was -31 with the wind chill. The roads were so dangerous and when I got to my country road it was not driveable. It does not get plowed until the last minute and then sometimes not at all. I hiked through the back country wilderness and as I approached my homestead I was able to travel on an old logging road where there is a flowing spring. I collect some water because I knew all of our water supply would be froze solid at the cabin. Christmas winter storm 2022! Hope you all are safe and have a wonderful Christmas!
More work on the homestead and log cabin will be coming soon, finishing the chinking with mortar, interior doors, building a greenhouse, harvesting fish from our pond, building a dog trot connecting both cabins, rainwater catchment for the house, solar, and more...stay tuned. Happy Holidays, stay safe! Thanks for watching dont forget to subscribe so you won't miss any future episodes: To subscribe and watch other videos of mine click here bit.ly/3EsYfWs
    Little about me
After spending most of my life in the big city, living a congested life within society's grip I decided to leave all that behind and become more self reliant living a simpler more fulfilling life close to nature. My wife and I have 6 children, we homeschool, raise a garden, mini farm and try to be resourceful as we can providing everything the family needs from nature.

    Beautiful place!
You know what was a lifesaver for us relying on splitting wood for heat was using an old truck tire to hold the wood and a speed-ax.
It's significantly less bending during each session for us folk with injured backs.
    Tap tap tap tap...done.
Also there's less worry of overstrikes, you just have to watch for hitting the rubber as it'll dull your edge.
The handle is no worry though.

In our case, it keeps the huge mess of chips away from the house and the extra walking is a nice break from swinging. If it was further, I'd use a truck or tractor bucket.

Those are old tire depressions on old logging road that I use to get logs from my cabin. That logging road has no access from the main road. Our main road wasn’t plowed. I was stranded 4 miles from cabin on main road and decided to hike through the woods to the cabin and as I got close walked the log road. Thanks to the sun things thawed some and road was plowed next day my family was able to drive in. Thx for watching! Happy holidays

I notice you didn't show the temp inside... I bet it never went over 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
A wood stove like that, no WAY can it heat a space that large when it's 31 below outside.
It's probably warmer in the loft. So what WAS the temperature inside, or don't you have a thermometer?
