4:49 "And your driver and fireman shall take you to pieces, that will make a very interesting picture, just what we need!" Sir Handel's feelings were beyond words
It’s incredible how these little engines were the ones who practically wrote the stories and Awdry simply adapted them! One day I hope to come and see Sir Hayden and the other Talyllyn locos in person. But only time will tell when that happens.
The reason for the narrow wheel treads is because basically the Three Falcons were Tram engines in essence and tram engine wheels are always narrow to avoid the outer edges of the wheels catching the cobbles that are flush with the outside of the rails on roadways.
This is the one I was looking forward to the most. Sir Haydn pulled my train when I visited in June 2022. According to Tom Rolt, volunteers had to choose between No. 3 and No. 4 before the 1951 season and chose No. 3 because it was easier to refurbish and get back into working order. There was no time or man-hours to keep both them AND Dolgoch in service. Of course, fate had other plans and Dolgoch had to pick up the slack. Here's to many more years to reliable running!
My siblings already are annoying enough, imagine if you had to deal with a sibling that was older than your own grandparents (possibly even great grandparents).
I'd be more inclined to believe it's "Little Old Twins" from the book "The Little Old Engine"... "...and you're Driver and Fireman shall take you to pieces, that'll make a very interesting picture; just what we need" also note, it was during the time of Sir Hadyn's incapacitation, that the Beeb visited the Talyllyn and combine that with how very little of Sir Handel is seen in the following book, "Gallant Old Engine", reflective of No.3's brief return in '57, as the book focuses mostly on Peter Sam, Duncan and Skarloey (archive footage shows Talyllyn, Edward Thomas and Douglas were left handling traffic in the late 50's to early 60's after Talyllyn returned). Many of the accounts in the books with the Reverend were usually tied with his volunteering days at the Talyllyn (many of which he learnt from people like L.T.C Rolt)
Here’s an interesting topic for another video - locos that could have been or were considered for the Talyllyn railway. These could include Talybont that eventually went to the Rheidol, the Kerr Stuart from 1913 that was never built, and the Tattoo Gwendolyn that was left on a mountain.
@@JonsGarage89 The Penwyllt silica brick company had a 2,3 gauge railway and a Tattoo class called Gwendolen. When the line closed the engine was left in its shed on top of the incline, and was pursued by the Talyllyn as a source of spares for Edward Thomas. Unfortunately it fell down the incline while being moved and was scrapped.
Is there a night club in corris ,I’m looking for a start on the doors if so ? I have slip on shoes and a crisp white shirt anything else required uniform wise ?
I think it's funny how in the 29th railway series book "Great Little Engines", It was written so that it would seem like Sor Handel actually came to the railway instead of Sir Haydn being repainted to look like him
At Talyllyn - Sir Hayden Mid Sodor Railway/Skarloey Railway - Sir Handel (formerly Falcon) Corris Railway - New build Falcon engine (Albert from the Mid Sodor Railway) So if Sir Handel (formerly Falcon) behaved during Mid Sodor Railway and Skarloey Railway, does that mean Albert (the engine that worked with Duke in the early days) is back to not cooperate with his crew after “taken a part and used as spares” despite Sir Handel/Falcon replaced Albert
Hopefully, the next engine story will Dolgoch. This Old Lady as the engine is called is important to the Talyllyn Railway because it kept the railway going even though the railway was reaching its last leg while Dolgoch was almost worn out.
Sir Haydn: heyyy sir handel-pie! Sir Handel: splendid to see you again, sir haydn! how do you like my steamroller wheels? Sir Haydn: i was going to ask the exact same thing, You cute little engine! Corris have already built the new Falcon, and it has been in service since October 2023! You can watch our video all about it here: ua-cam.com/video/bN2zKlV0_vw/v-deo.html
Well, they’ve talked about The Lawnmower and Charlie’s Ant, and the might do the same with Merseysider and Bryn Eglwys, so it looks like we’ll be waiting for a while.
If we're talking operational years, we've had her longer now! 😉 All jokes aside, I'm sure we'll see No.3 back on Corris metals in the near future - especially with what they're up to at the moment!

Sir Haydn is my favorite Narrow gauge engine
I have no idea why she is just such a majestic engine

I think Sir Haydn is a good worker but Edward Thomas will always be my favorite, thanks for another great video TR!
I never realised there was footage of the derailment! Also thank you for another excellent video 🙂
I Love them. And I love it more that they are in a TV Show.
He'll soon have a new sibling, the corris railway is building a new falcon
It's almost complete, it's already steamed once
I believe it was mostly constructed at Alan Keef Works

Sir Haydn: you remember we worked at corris railway?
Edward Thomas: yes,and this railway closes but reopens in some years later
I don’t know why but Sir Haydn is my favourite of the TR Fleet
I have been waiting for this video and I really enjoyed it.
Great video, really well put together and informative. Also makes me want to read Tom Rolt's book!
Haydn is like the temperamental but charming engine every good railway has
4:38 Is that what inspired Sir Hansel’s plan in New little engine?
I'd be more inclined to believe it's "Little Old Twins" from the book "The Little Old Engine"...

My favorite of all the engines I hope to visit her some day!
2:50 "Told you!" Said Sir Handel.
2:50 Told you so! (The inspiring of Sir Hansel’s derailment)
Actually I think it’s just, “Told you!”
Sir Handel is my favourite RWS /Skarloey character and the same goes to No’3 Sir Haydn, well actually it’s between her and No’2 Dolgoch.
Here’s an interesting topic for another video - locos that could have been or were considered for the Talyllyn railway. These could include Talybont that eventually went to the Rheidol, the Kerr Stuart from 1913 that was never built, and the Tattoo Gwendolyn that was left on a mountain.

3:50 Great Scotland Yard. It's Thomas The Tank Engine And Friends. Thanks Mate. X
Like a famous composer, Sir Haydn works without any hiccup on the track
As long as said track is reliable.
when they do no2 I am wondering if they could mention to the light engine movement from railway adventure
I think it's funny how in the 29th railway series book "Great Little Engines", It was written so that it would seem like Sor Handel actually came to the railway instead of Sir Haydn being repainted to look like him
Only Dolgoch left now, unless they do Merseysider and Bryn eglwys
There's also the electric engine, but I doubt they'll find anything too terribly interesting with that one I'm afraid.
i think they're saying dolgoch for last
2:58 Sir Haydn:trucks!? i'm don't want pull that!!
and it happen he derails
Sir Haydn:told you
At Talyllyn - Sir Hayden
Mid Sodor Railway/Skarloey Railway - Sir Handel (formerly Falcon)
Corris Railway - New build Falcon engine (Albert from the Mid Sodor Railway)
So if Sir Handel (formerly Falcon) behaved during Mid Sodor Railway and Skarloey Railway, does that mean Albert (the engine that worked with Duke in the early days) is back to not cooperate with his crew after “taken a part and used as spares” despite Sir Handel/Falcon replaced Albert
I don’t know. There had apparently been THREE DIFFERENT ENGINES named Albert who worked on the Mid-Sodor Railway, so it’s kind of hard to keep track.
And besides, what about the first two engines from the Corris Railway?
@@ciarangleeson2880 In Hugh Goes Sliding, it’s mentioned that two of the four locomotives were worn out and presumably scrapped
I mean because they were the same class as Sir Haydn and Number 10.
Who do you think that their counterparts would be?
May God bless Sir Haydn.
Hopefully, the next engine story will Dolgoch. This Old Lady as the engine is called is important to the Talyllyn Railway because it kept the railway going even though the railway was reaching its last leg while Dolgoch was almost worn out.
I’m sorry about your accident, Peter-Sam. I always stand well back. Trucks don’t like me, you see.
Why didn’t you warn me?
I didn’t think...
You never do! You can start now while you’re doing Peter Sam’s work as well as your own!
That’ll teach you to pretend to be ill.
Sir Handel did start thinking he thought about Thin Controllers, he thought about Gordon. He wanted to give Gordon a piece of his mind!
so David Curwen was no3's first driver on the TR?
#PrideOfTheFleet
Yes Nathan
They look like Sir Handel from the Railway Series books and the Thomas and Friends TV series.
I just realized that the two engines bought from Corris were bought for $600 in modern USD.
"I'm highly sprung, and I suffer dreadfully!"
How can I learn the line with you lumbering ahead and blocking the view?
Never mind the view. Pay attention to the track.
Sir Handel!
I like the old cab tho
