Hi, I'm so glad you're here today 🌻 It's natural to expect certain traits of people depending on what they wear. I love that Harry openly shares his belief in social acceptance and how clearly his social awareness comes through in his better colours. Fake it till you make it doesn't work with colour but once you know how your colour world works, you can play very freely and say anything and everything you want. 🙂
You're so welcome! I enjoy looking at men and colour as well. They have a different way about them with colour but once you notice that you're still comparing them to them, same as everyone else, the optical effects are all there to see.
You’re channel is such a hidden GEM! I’m a new subscriber, and am just blown away by the insight you have on this topic of color. I would love to see your analysis of these three people: Adele, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Rosie Huntington-Whitely.
Thank you and welcome to the channel :) Great suggestions. I've looked at Adele and her colouring is a hard call from images, like Aishwarya Rai and Melissa McCarthy. Phoebe and Rosie would be very good, I've added them to the list!
Good observation about Light Summer and Dark Autumn! They are on two ends of value scale, but they have something in common: they are neutral and medium in saturation (to me, they are not overtly soft, instead they seat between bright and muted colouring). Would you like to make a video about black? As to blsck, I have noticed that I live some True Autumns with darker colouring on black mixed with autumn gold. I also love some True Springs on black If they have some dramatic features and darker hair and brows.
Yes, it's possible to approach Season in a very left brain technical way and lose the plot of what makes sense for the person. The right brain has to find the story, see the meaning. I'd be happy to do a video about black, what slows me down (or speeds me up) is having a sense of the questions you might have. What would you like to see, learn, or talk about? I've thought about a 'Your Best Black' video like the others in that format but I'm not sure the nuances will be visible with the dark colour. I've looked at image galleries and can barely see them myself on screens.
Thank you. I wondered if this was an effect that happens as much with real life Harry in different colours. I can't recall a person on whom it's been so dramatic.
I think Harry might be a blue spring, he really gets on well with the pinks, blues and purples in that palette, and dressing to the darker end of Spring. I did also think deep winter but black is a little harsh, and the purples in winter are a bit too cold for him, also he suits silver and a kind of gold lamé again suggesting neutral also his hair is a kind of neutral brown, tiny bit of warmth but not orangey, I like how he can get away with outlandish, but also looks very good in the formal uniform look at the end.
Thanks for your thoughts :) I'm not familiar with 'blue spring' (unless you meant True Spring?), but I agree that he does well with pink, blue, and purple as colour families. Interesting comment about how he wears outlandish and uniform styles well. With performers, especially during performances, it's hard to imagine those looks off stage and know how to think about them. I also think about body type. Harry seems moderate in body type, medium height, no extremes or asymmetries in his features, and I wonder that makes it easier to wear performance clothing, like his 'medium-ness' would have a normalizing effect on it, making it easier to imagine than on a more dramatic body type. The middle of the bell curve seems like it would be easiest to figure out but you have to be just as aware of what's really going on, maybe more so.
Yes, some people just really want to understand the process and take the course and own the drapes without having a professional career or business. They drape family and friends or feel better taking part in conversations or reading about PCA.
Christine you mentioned the shirt being too warm for his lips. Are there not people with cooler toned lips who drape warm? I’ve done a fair amount of self draping and I feel like almost every pink that exists ages me until you get to soft autumn, but my lips read fairly cool and I have wondered about it.
A good question, very relevant for a lot of people. Although natural lip colour can be a good indicator of natural red tones, it can also read cooler or warmer than the person's actual warmth level. I find natural cheek colour a far better indicator, but as with all decisions about Season, there's no single indicator. It's a combination of decisions arrived at in a stepwise process. So sure, a Soft Autumn could have lips that appear slightly bluer than the traditional reds.
When I modeled for Terry Wildfong (also using Sci/Art technique) during training, she pointed out that my lips have an orange hue, but during the draping strong warm colors turned me sallow or yellow, and my result was bright winter (a cooler side of neutral)
Terry may have other suggestions for the reason, but along with natural variation in lip colours within Seasons, possibly one reason why lipstick can have variable results on people in the same Season, another thought that comes to mind is that Neutral Season people often have apparently varied warmth levels in their surface colouring, could be warm hair-cool skin or cool skin-warm lips or many other combinations.
I'm torn between being a soft summer or soft autumn. When doing the tests, I definitely align with soft autumn. But my contrast is a little bit higher between my hair/skin. I look best in bright whites rather than in ivory, cooler pastels more than orange.. but my skin tone is definitely warm with red in my skin. I don't have a color analysis expert in my area and I want a consultation/meeting with one so badly to finally figure this out!
I totally understand. Having all sorts of apparent contradictions in our own observations is normal. I can't think of a single client who did not have several before we were able to explain them in the context of their actual Season. I wonder about combining a trip with an analysis, which accounts for most of the client I met since June. We have analysts in business and holiday destinations. I hope you're able to get it sorted one day. Soon!
Glad you are back, Christine! I so enjoy your videos. I have a video request now that we in the Northern hemisphere are entering cooler weather. Could you talk about knits/sweaters, how color shows up in these fabrics, and how to dress WARMLY in your colors? Signed -- a perpetually cold person :)
Thank you for the suggestion! I've looked at Jason in the past, thinking he'd be perfect. I was surprised to find that he wears a lot of costume, like Bruno Mars. Maybe I didn't look back in time far enough. Costumes can help show certain effects but would you agree that they're hard to apply to our own lives and choices, or you find it still useful? I also prefer the majority of images to show flattering effects, also hard to find with Jason. I'd love to feature him though, have you seen enough good images and I just need to look a bit more?
@@ChristineScaman I like how his style has evolved, he started off as a surfer kid ... but now he is not afraid to take chances and loves color. I started paying attention when he wore that Lagerfeld pink tux. Yes, sometimes he looks like a lumberjack and other times like a yoga instructor but I like that he doesn't stick to the rules. He wears the clothes, the clothes don't wear him. And even though I would never dress like that, I do admire his creativity and freedom.
Reason enough to look again. I agree with you about taking risk and I'd love to do a video about risk that pays off with colour. I'm hoping I can find enough images showing him wearing colour in the great or best range.Thank you :)
I wasn't able to find any source saying that Harry Styles uses they/them pronouns? It sounds like there might've been a communication mixup of some kind. I doubt he'd mind, though, so no harm done. Some people suspect he might be nonbinary, but he hasn't come out either way AFAIK (pardon me if I've just missed it, though!) Have you considered doing Jonathan Van Ness? (He usually uses he/him pronouns, but he's comfortable with any pronouns & is nonbinary, not a man). He wears a lot of color, from all seasons. I think he's a winter--there's a really lovely photo of him in off white with hot pink lipstick at what looks like a Netflix red carpet. He reads like he would be warm, but he really shines in cooler, brighter colors, so he's a good case study.
I found the information in an interview from a source that appeared reliable, but I couldn't find the link again and have had to clear my browsing history over another issue since then. I agree with you, Harry probably wouldn't mind, I wouldn't either if it were me, I figure that's kind of the point. I will definitely look at JVN. Such a great suggestion. Natural hair colour is so much easier to work with and he has a beard, we've not done facial hair before and people ask many questions. Plenty of colours and textures in clothing and for sure, the white and hot pink will be in there. By far the majority of people are neutral in warmth, and he probably is as well, from your very perceptive and open-minded observations. Open-minded in the sense of being able to hold opposing beliefs at the same time, a sign of intelligence, I've read, and a great skill for a colour analyst :) Thank you for the idea!
Hi Christine! New to the channel! Love it btw!! So just clarifying your theory is that colour palette can change through time? Is there way to stay with same face contrast and move to another season? Also you state for Harry being cool winter, correct?? Ty!
I find look #5 to be the best even though the prints can be a bit small. I feel like you are hinting at True Summer with the negative effects on warmth. And the almost close (but not all the way) to Winter. Style wise Harry dresses too much like David Bowie (Dramatic) or Mick Jagger (Flamboyant Gamine) despite being blunt and soft. Is it a British thing to aspire to those avant garde icons? The fashion makes a hottie-next-door looks clownish and dowdy in silly costumes.
Your comments are so insightful, always :) Agreed, Look #5 was up there for sure, a little underwhelming but in the right vicinity. Not easy finding images that get anywhere near what's possible for Harry. They have a natural glamour that is rarely expressed, style as well as colour. I wonder about some kind of Summer, that's true, but from these videos, I couldn't commit to anything. I see a few tendencies but we're so limited by all the different variables in pictures that guessing at Season seems hopeless. I'm with you on your style thoughts. IDK if it's a British thing, which I only say because I have the distinct impression that they show different types of appearance successful than I might, goes for Victoria Beckham and many other English celebs. I see the hottie's stage outfits as understandably attention-getting, but my goodness, how they could look!!!
This is lovely, but just so you know Harry goes by he/him and has never said otherwise :) He did star in a movie with Emma Corrin who uses they/them so maybe thats where the confusion is!
Yes, I believe you're right. I read they/them in an interview with him and didn't see him on Instagram where it's often specified in profiles. I'm pretty sure Harry wouldn't mind...or I know I wouldn't if it were me and I hope he'd feel the same.
I really like Harry in the grey suit actually. For me his skin looks creamy and flawless and I see his natural beauty. All of the patterns overwhelm and take away from his delicate facial structure...which is art in itself. Telling a story of a single person in the third person is extremely confusing and grammatically disharmonious. I thought you were comparing him to a group of people for the first few minutes. I can't wait until this degradation of culture and language has run its course. Thank you for this analysis. Always something more to learn from your channel.
