This series is just amazing! Perfect timing too! I got more serious into fishing this year and ice fishing is definitely on the”to do” list. Keep up the Great Work Jay! I’m stoked for your ice fishing videos!
One other thing to say about the Aqua View on smaller lakes… we’ve caught so many more bluegill/crappie/pan fish because you can see that the fish has it BEFORE you feel any strike. This results in more catches (amazing for family-type fishing for the young kids, etc) and also better for the fish you release with easy, shallow hook sets in the mouth.
Fantastic vids Jay. Best memories of my Dad were from ice fishing. I wish he was still here to watch these videos to see how much it has changed since I was a kid. You are doing a great thing here for beginners and pros a like! Thank you.
So well laid out. I totally agree with you Jay, get what you can afford and just get out fishing. My next purchase will be lithium. I look forward to the next few instalments!
Great video Jay. I don't think of myself as old, but I did start ice fishing as a kid in the '80s, so have been at this for a while... Anyway, after about a 10-year layoff, I got back into ice fishing last year and it was the first time I used a sonar. And I cannot stress enough how much better ice fishing is with a sonar. So much so that I don't think I'd ever go ice fishing without one now. Just the ability to see if there is anything going on down the hole or not, so you can make decisions whether to move or stay, and the excitement of 'playing' with fish even if they don't bite adds such a dimension to ice fishing, rather than just sitting there hoping something happens. It's a must-have for ice fishing!
For most guys I know, who are very mobile ice anglers, it's really hard to beat a flasher or small sonar, but hard to argue with any of the points you make. Great vid, Jay!
I invested in a mid to low end Garmin striker 4 last winter. I am very pleased by it. Brings confidence to my fishing. GPS flasher mode and other great options. Only downside no cone transducer just a boat /kayak hookup model
Having navionics is a great tool as well and much cheaper for the beginner! I would still say you need a flasher, but at least you can get on a spot quicker.
i bet i catch 75% more fish now that i run a Helix 7. i map lakes out during the summer months so i can return in the winter. I also see fish on the graph when fishing and i am able to adjust my tactic based on the fish. Total game changer!!
A LiveScope alternative that I loved last year for ice was just actual Panoptix. It's cheaper than LiveScope and there's no black box, but you still get a huge range of sight compared to regular sonar.
I started with no flasher, and bought a Marcum LX3, and moved up to a Helix 5, then Panoptix, and now the LIvescope. I know it's big but it's so worth the price. Year round use, and all the features are great. Like you said though starting off with just a flasher is key because going blind is no bueno!!! Thanks again Jay awesome series can't wait for next video.
Hey Jay, on the topic of batteries, I have been running my flasher off the same lithium battery as my cordless drill. I'm a carpenter and have many Milwaukee tools so the drill auger just made sense to me. I don't own any but have friends with heated jackets from Milwaukee and found they sell an adapter to use 18v batteries with the 12v jackets. I bought one and made an adapter (with inline fuse) to plug my flasher into it and I can go all day on one 9ah M18 battery. I always have a charged battery or three on hand when I want to go fishing! Better yet, there's also a usb charge port built in that I can use for other things.
Hey Jay. Love the videos you put out! Can you please do a video on how you hooked up the panoptix transducer to your boat? Even just the placement of the transducer would be great 😊
For anyone new to ice fishing or all fishing for that matter the garmin striker 4 is an awesome unit for ice fishing and for a boat or kayak rowboat whatever you fish out of and it’s $100 you can also buy an ice transducer for it which I recommend but the regular transducer will get you by on the ice aswell
Couldn’t agree more with the comments this series is awesome and same here for me best memories for me as well is with my underwear camera definitely going to take your advice and get a new batter for it this year
Nice & informative video sir. Only thing to add would be that; Flashers can be more than 800.00 like 1000.00 depending on model/setup like top end vex. Sonars could be found for 200.00 for low end/beginner like lowrance. Cameras are cool, entertaining (especially when you have beginner or especially kids) but flasher is better/make you better/more successful once you know how to use/read one.
Cameras add an element of "buck fever" to ice fishing. It allows you to watch fish interact with your baits while being clueless. Its just like watching big beasts walking towards your stand after being called in by a grunting cadence. Gets the blood pumping for sure.
Ok, don't laugh (you're gonna laugh) for years and years, until 3 years ago I fished year round with a Hummingbird Fishing Buddy 2 and 3 sets of rechargeable C cell batteries. I kept the batteries warm inside my coat until the tent was warm then put them in the fishing buddy and the transducer end down the hole (or if two or three of us were out then it had it's own hole and stand that we welded up. The side scan feature worked great and gave about a 30-40' side look and we never fished anything deeper that it couldn't find bottom. Like a flasher you could watch fish come to your bait, in somewhat reasonable time, certainly not instant, but you could tell a fish was interested for sure. We have switched to a Lowrance 4 seasons unit and have used it with great success, but that stupid little, highly breakable and tiny screened little Fishing Buddy 2 will remain close to my heart forever!! lol Just an example of finding a way when you had little or no money. I got the Fishing Buddy for a birthday gift when I was in my early 20's, my friend made tents from old folding truck canopies and our other buddy had access to welding gear and is a genius level fabricator. Canadian farm/acreage kids, need I say more?
i bought a brand new Striker 4 for about 100$. i put it on a little tool box with the battery and spare wires inside. it is way better than a flasher .
Hi jay, love the videos. What about a guy like me just specifically fishing pike with tip ups, underwater camera to find weed patches and fish or? Thanks in advance!
Always great videos, been recommending them to others. But where did your AquaView custom build video go? I watched but can not seem to find it again? Was it deleted?
One thing that would bring everything together would be an power box you have power to everything in one box and can charge everything and you can customize the battery in the box’s we build
Hey Jay, great content on your channel, thanks for the great videos. I picked up a dakota lithium 10ah battery today for my vexilar, however I can’t find any information on charging the battery with the vexilar charger that came with my FL18? do you use a different charger when charging your vex with a lithium battery installed? or do you use the one that came with your vex ? thanks
I can’t wait for the ice to be thick enough we’re supposed to get 14 inches of snow tonight and Tomorrow and be cold the next week so hopefully I can get on the ice soon.
Under water cameras are also great for kids. I can hold my kids attention for at least 6-8 minutes in a row before it’s back to snow angels and bothering strangers. $500 well spent if you ask me.
So, my Garmin Striker 4 Plus CV fish finder has the flasher, a GPS, charting all built into it and was only $180 ... is it lower quality in some way? I'm just wondering because everything you showed was more expensive and the $200 equipment you showed had fewer features than the Striker 4 Plus CV at $180.
Advice outdoor sports in general aint fkin cheap...hahah I have 3 flx28 half dozen custom rods shantys flips sleds suit . 2 augers im probably at 5k or more already 🤔
Best thing to see when I wake up on a Saturday morning!

His videos are great and inspired me to ice fish 2 years ago.

You are getting me so pumped up for ice fishing you have no idea. BRING ON THE ICE!!
Yessssssssss!
So well laid out. I totally agree with you Jay, get what you can afford and just get out fishing. My next purchase will be lithium. I look forward to the next few instalments!
You’ll love having a lithium! Thanks for watching!
This series is such a great introduction to hardwater angling. Bravo, Jay!

Aquaview is amazing, but can’t beat the good old flasher!
For most guys I know, who are very mobile ice anglers, it's really hard to beat a flasher or small sonar, but hard to argue with any of the points you make. Great vid, Jay!
I agree! Mobility is very important !
I invested in a mid to low end Garmin striker 4 last winter. I am very pleased by it. Brings confidence to my fishing. GPS flasher mode and other great options. Only downside no cone transducer just a boat /kayak hookup model
I have a Vexilar FLX-12 and love it as a beginner. You are right Jay, they are a game changer for ice fishing. Love the organized garage by the way!
Having navionics is a great tool as well and much cheaper for the beginner! I would still say you need a flasher, but at least you can get on a spot quicker.
This is so cool love the series ill be sharing this with my subs
Your the man Fowler! Much respect brother
Thanks so much man! When are you coming fishing with me?
Came here from Zach

Absolutely!! Such a good example
Wating for video #7 so exited. Loving this serie. Thanks for the amazing work.
❤️
How do you not have half a million subs? UA-cam algorithms are jacked.
I appreciate that!

the garmin striker 4 is 160 cad and can be used in the summer and winter and it includes chrip sonar and additional gps
Jay--- Have you ever used a product called a Beam Bender?? It hooks to your transducer cable.
i bought a brand new Striker 4 for about 100$. i put it on a little tool box with the battery and spare wires inside. it is way better than a flasher .
I have an Aqua view and seeing fish eat is so epic but I also want a flasher sometime
Great video. Also really like your garage set up.
Hi jay, love the videos. What about a guy like me just specifically fishing pike with tip ups, underwater camera to find weed patches and fish or? Thanks in advance!
Another good pro for the camera is for someone who takes out new people. Having people watch fish watch their hook is a great time.
You can get a 2d setup with downwcan for the ice for $200. I use a hook 2 5" with flasher mode and it's amazing.
Jay keep killing it!
Hey keep up the good work Jay can’t wait for ice my favorite

Question Jay, buying an underwater camera Marcum Quest or Aqua Vu Hd7i Pro?
Yes a part 6 whoot whoot
Excellent 💗💗💗💗
Love the video. But why in US dollars?? Brought to us by Travel Manitoba im confused?
The majority of my channel viewership is in the USA.
Under water cameras are also great for kids. I can hold my kids attention for at least 6-8 minutes in a row before it’s back to snow angels and bothering strangers. $500 well spent if you ask me.
Yep, an cheap Underwater camera worths the value! But for $500, too pricy!
Deeper runs on wifi not bluetooth
How do You get a Camera such as a gopro..... to pick up a flasher?
So, my Garmin Striker 4 Plus CV fish finder has the flasher, a GPS, charting all built into it and was only $180 ... is it lower quality in some way? I'm just wondering because everything you showed was more expensive and the $200 equipment you showed had fewer features than the Striker 4 Plus CV at $180.
Yes the Striker 4 is a great option
The garmin striker 4 is way better than the deeper thing that connects to ur phone
Advice outdoor sports in general aint fkin cheap...hahah I have 3 flx28 half dozen custom rods shantys flips sleds suit . 2 augers im probably at 5k or more already 🤔
Would you get the deeper over a base model flasher like a vexilar fl8 or hummingbird ice 35?
Fl8
@@JaySiemens I do a lot of laker fishing. Is the FL8 good for deeper water like 40+ feet?
Did video 5 get taken down or something?
Nope, it’s there
A great entry level graph is a Garmin striker 4. For the money you can’t beat it for an entry level electronic piece
Great option as well!
The size difference between a flasher and the livescope though, weh!
Yeah crazy eh?
To Jay and everyone else hello
Why don't you and Clayton do catching fish together
