Hi Guys , There's been a few people experiencing a Judder or squeal when pulling away on the Honda 350 engine. Well lets take a look at a possible cause today.
Of all the youtube video's this was the most helpful I ever needed to see. Riding in thailand and I was worried I bought a faulty bike. Saw this video and went to a Honda service center, asked to clean the gear box and bam.. Well done, thank you
Very nice presentation. I had this issue with my Nmax about 18 months ago I went to the dealer because a friend had the issue in 2015 with his PCX but never said what the fix was. The dealer did basically an air 'wash' without the level of treatment you've done; mine had volumes more dust, they just laughed about it and I went away unhappy because I thought they dismissed a mechanical problem. It was good for a couple of weeks but then slowly crept in. Cleaned it again and they did a very detailed job on all the bits as I watched. It's a recurring problem that needs a proper solution. Even with a new belt it has come back again. Your video is top notch for teaching, and much admiration for your pride of ownership (cleanliness). Thanks for this, I'll have a look around and sub.
I had the same problem when I first purchased my used 14000 mile 2001 NSS250 Honda Reflex. At that time I had owned nothing but motorcycles and had little to no knowledge of CVT bikes or scooters. On take off it had a horrible shutter, from takeoff to around 12 mph, and sometimes a loud squeal only on acceleration up through 35 or 40 mph. An aftermarket racing clutch and matching clutch bell solved my shutter problem and a new Bando factory drive belt solved the sqealing problem. Previouse owner had put a cheap Chinese drive belt on it. Also dumped the rollers for sliders in the variator.
Very good instructional video. Concetningvthe torque settings, I look for them before removing the nuts/bolts. If they are not available simply mark the positions of the nuts/bolts to get them back to the same pisition, similar to matching the paint marks as shown here.
Thank you it's a very useful film. I have had the same problem with my PCX in Thailand is very difficult to explain to them and then to me armed with this knowledge might have a better chance of explaining to a Thai
Having just got a Forza, good to know, looks to be just dust from natural wear of the belt and clutch plates. Great vid, one to follow if/when any get similar issue.
15 gram rollers tweak the torque nicely on take off 0-100km in6.8 second ,with no affect at top speed.remove the inner tube in side air box and fit a land n air filter, for razor sharp handling and acceleration
Thanks for vid , worked a treat for about 400 miles but started to groan again , no judder just the groan , so took apart again , obviously still clean in there but rubbed and cleaned the clutch plates with a bit more vigor , put it back together and perfect again ,so can only assume the plates are bad or contaminated , anyway orderd the malossi upgrade to fix once and for all !
I had to do this to my Honda SH300i Scooter after 4,500 miles, purchased it from a dealer used. It was screeching/chirping every time i pulled away from standstill. Lots of dust. Clutch shoes also need roughing up with a bit of wet and dry, same for the bell house, been fine every since. Apparently too many soft pull aways from standstill can start to glaze the clutch shoes then it's a continuous cycle as it gets worse and heat builds up blueing the bell house as the shoes slip.
Add 1mm washer between Pulley and Drive Face.. Change the.. Clutch at Center Spring into 1800RPM Re Angle Pulley and Drive / 13.5 degree 15/16 grams combination of Ply Ball Give’s you more Torque and accelaration And also Great Top speed👍☝️💪
What I use to once a year was to blow that area out with a air line I included it in the service as I do all my own servicing, pick my new adv on Tuesday, from where you got yours from.
brilliant video, are you a former mechanic or engineer? how did you learn all of this, for someone like me who wouldn't no his spanner from his washer, would the Honda mechanics fix this themselves if i had the same issue? I'm getting the ADV 350 as my first bike since getting my full A license, and i wouldn't know any of this stuff, seems intense tbh
I'm not a professional mechanic, but I have learned lots over the last 40 years of fixing my own bike's, especially when I was younger and could not afford to pay a mechanic. Enjoy your new bike they are awesome 👌
I don't have this bike but i'm interested in one. hence watching some videos. This is surprising to see but isnt this part of a service schedule with honda?
@sparkmeister4706 yes I think it us part of the service because shortly after making the video I look the bike in for its annual service plan 6000miles I think 🤔 during the service they changed the belt so I can assume they clean it all out at the same time 👍
On wet weather its more noticeable. My sh300i with 50000miles also do that and already changed clutch. You clean it, judger disapeers and after a few miles is there again. Annoying at low speed but once the belt and clutch warms up its gone.
Hi, am interested In an adv350. I have a 400 burger so how do you find the performance against the burger....top speed and acceleration. enjoyed the video. Ps seems a lot easier to get to the drive without having to take loads of plastic off. Cheers, Eric
Hi I also had a burgman 400 but the older one. I can say the ADV350 beats it on performance and handling but the burger us more comfortable and better weather protection.
most of that muck is off the belt, get a cheap digital caliper and measure the belt is still in spec. also the rollers are consumables, they're cheap so just replace them.
Hey man nice job. I had the same exact problem at about 9000kms. Cleaned it even replaced the rollers but the problem came back 500 kms later :( any tips
@ yea.. i think se should seperate the clutch assemly and clean the clutch shoe internals maybe. I think the problem is cheap clutch dust.. im thinking of getting malossi maxifly clutch system maybe that will prolong it :/
@darewinder yes I think that upgrading the clutch shoes and weights would help a lot .I've had scooters for years and this is the worst one for juddering.
I just done this and it's cured it 100% , I did the variator nut to 83nm and the clutch nut to 78nm. These are the listed torques from the Forza 300 workshop manual , Be nice to get a definitive answer but mine seems to be just fine . But the the other chap says 125nm so I'm not sure now
Oh and yes the rollers had an edge on them , which I noted almost like a little indentation right around one side , they matched with the blue pain points
At least it's a easier job than a burgman 400, thinking of getting a forza 350,what is ur height and inside leg measurements, is the seating position OK I am 6" 1'
Brilliant, nicely done and you saved a fortune! BUT, am disappointed we should have to do this at such low mileage - just done 2500 myself and was thinking 'nothing to do for years, wrongly!'. Also, even though debris was a few grams, where did it come from and what future problems are around the corner????
@@Crohniebiker Hopefully you might send the vid to Honda UK, it's concerning! I started with a twin 125 in the 60's, I still have a v twin 125 but they are traditional bikes, good as gold!
You did not seem well prepared for the job as didn't see next gasket fitted , air filter was not cleaned and torque settings your local dealer would of provided you with. hurts my brain watching you do everything wrong and using an impact lol. never do that again! you'll be surprised how much damage you can do to the crankshaft thread and the clutch thread using an impact especially a air impact !!!!
@Crohniebiker fair enough just don't do it in future lol. Get a breaker bar and a torque wrench it's far cheaper than a new crankshaft or having a confident mechanic weld and tap new threads.
And now i understand what rollers and variator plates are and how they fit into the cvt system. Excellent video!

Great video. Just one Q: At 6:40 what on earth is a 'Scotchy up' for the pulley plate? Broth? Whisky? Please forgive a dumb question.
@m2menuiserie540 haha 😄 it's just scotch bright abrasive pads. They take the sheen off like sand paper but much less abrasive 👍
@@Crohniebiker Aaaahhh. Thanks for that. Makes sense. As Head of Washing-Up in my household I should have guessed.

125Nm for the variator nut. Well thats according to the adv polini instructions. Just a point, aren't the rollers orientation sensitive?
Thanks for the info 👍
The rollers are just standard no left or right side that I could tell anyway 👍

Why use gloves there was no grease and all the dirt found can be found on a roundv
I don't bother about it. I treat it as a squeaking brakes.
