  • Honda ADV 350 Scooter : Touring Europe Part 1
Part 1 : UK to Ribeauville, France
In this video, in which, there is no drama or made up crisis, I ride my ADV 350 over to the Alsace in France. And it's brilliant! I also try to get to grips with a Garmin Sumo GPS.
    Places I stayed at are:

I took my ADV350 around Wales this year, my mates thought I was bonkers! I enjoyed it as much as I would using any of my other bikes. Fair play for touring around Europe! Safe riding kind sir.

Hello Team Tempest, very good to hear from you today and hope all is well with you. Well, I'm sure you had the last laugh on your ADV trip around Wales - happy in the knowledge of supreme comfort, great economy and bungee straps. What's not to like?
Part 2 is coming in a bit! All the best, thanks again for stopping by, cheers, Phil.

Hello Phil, you completed the stage despite the not at all friendly weather and posted nice pictures, I find that admirable. In Austria and in some other European countries there was flooding in September and I even had to drive on a muddy road with my ADV 350. But she mastered this brilliantly too-> she is a wild workhorse after all- ROOOAAAA 😄😉. I'm looking forward to part 2 and to photos in sunshine, maybe even during the ride. Thanks for showing.

Thank you very much and yes, compared to Austria / Poland it seems I did avoid the really bad weather and unlike you never had to ride on a muddy road 😀 You did well!!
Even better, part 2 does include some (very cold) ☀️! All the best, thanks for stopping by, cheers, Phil.

3:12 I like the jacket. I like Belgium. The underseat storage of the 350 must be great when touring. Bad weather for the trip. 9:50 Great place to stay. 11:28 Great old bike. 13:09 Good-looking scooter from the front.

Thanks very much Nick - all good with you? The ADV just made everything easy - especially with the inclement weather. The storage was just great though - stop somewhere, stash the helmet and jacket (although I kept the jacket on as it was so cold) and then look like a normal human being. I didnt' really want for more speed either. And yeah the Mirabelle / Ribeauville was just brilliant - thoroughly enjoyed my time there.
      All the best, cheers, Phil.

Ribeauville had some amazing archutecture .Always a treat to come along with your eye for finding the beautiful shots .What Martha Stewart called " the beauty role".I hope you brought flanal for an under layer .. I just dress like I am going alpine skiing when the temprature drops .Someone gave me silk long johns :very light and man they hold the body heat .I hope you are having a blast ...:)

And....there's even more and better to come on the return trip - I'm looking forward to sharing it as you'll love it. If you ever decided to branch out and have a pottery in France, the Alsace is definitely the place. As for layers - I ended up wearing my waterproof walking jacket under my bike jacket which worked quite well while the leather jeans kept me warm.
Good to know about your long johns :-)
Have a good day / weekend, cheers, Phil.

Top touring video, Phil. The Germans probably closed the border in sympathy with their Belgian friends over your murdering of the names of rivers, towns & geographical features in general! Thomas is far too polite to correct you, but as a fellow Brit & Guzzista, I can let you know, without embarrassment.

    • @80eightReviews
      @80eightReviews  3 дні тому

Good morning Hugh, er yes, you're probably right. To be honest I can't even pronounce places a few miles away correctly. Thing is, if I started rolling my R's and using the glottal stop, I just end up spraying phlegm everywhere which in the interests of X-Euro harmony would never do. Especially when there's food around.
I take your observations in the spirt in which they were meant.
I suspect Thomas is going to tell me off though. I probably pronounced his name wrong and everything. Oops.
Have a good day Hugh, cheers, Phil.

Good morning Dr. Doolittle - how are you doing? Ha ha yes, I could imagine there's quite a difference between the Vulcan and ADV. To be honest I was thinking a similar thought when I was riding the ADV and very thankful I wasn't riding the Guzzi when it was hosing it down.
Ah yes, there was a bit of rain a few weeks ago down South wasn't there? Hopefully you've dried out...
As for Portillo, ahem, well, there are more trains coming up I'm afraid. I don't wear salmon coloured trousers though so hopefully that's OK?

@@80eightReviews Just read this priceless comment from a Tour company I might use one day? Regards, Hugh.🤣
"All in all, the European Assistance did what it was supposed to do, repatriating us and our bike to the UK. The Italian end of things could have worked better, and I was surprised they don't use what3words, although an Englishman telling a Frenchman/woman "neat.figure.banana" (the same location as the Google maps example above) might be fraught with its own difficulties. We also learned that Google Maps has a coordinates facility which might be useful in future, and had a lovely night in Verona prior to flying home!

Hey John, ooh that sounds nice - hopefully you're getting some good weather? The ADV is a great bike and normally I'd say the fuel range is quite acceptable but the thing is I could sit on the ADV easily for 200 miles without stopping so as you say another half a gallon or so would really improve it. Also it's not the easiest to fill up - especially when you're parked up in the shade. That's about it though!

One of them features the use of green biro's to illustrate Quantum Mechanics and string theory. On that one I've slowed it down so it lasts even longer. It's brilliant - 3 hours long but even longer if you're further away from the event horizon.

Hey Joe, good to hear from you - just to clarify - I found the Dutch motorways great in terms of their condition and how well maintained they are - the comment was more about that stretch from Amsterdam to Rotterdam which isn't very interesting to ride and when I was on it, it was very busy with huge trucks and very difficult to make good progress as the traffic was so slow. On the Belgian side yes, they are a little crumbly in places!
