I bought one of these Tri Moto 175's new in the early 80's. Blew a piston riding through wet snow and slush across a lake. Warranty covered the repair:). My first new 3 wheeler was the Tri Moto 125. Good times!

@@kevinAuman1 for real cboys has a crf450 3 wheeler that thing is crazy but nowdays they are still dangerous but less cause you make the rear WIDE AF and its already better. love how the cboys broke that engines multiple times cause the air filter is a cone filter near the rear and they went full send tru water, and that is why you want and need a air box... but also there is this channel on youtube that build trikes but also transform bikes into quads they make a crf 450 quad that is just crazy
Nope not the original tires my man. The rears were matching with your front tire, a dimpled knobby tread was OEM. Own 2 of these things and was around when they were brand new have one as a kid. The one I'm building right now is a Franken Trike for better handling and more comfort. The neck was removed and raked to 24 degrees which matches the Honda 250r frame layout and using triple trees and the entire front end off a trashed Honda 250r. Engine has been fully modified and built for performance. Custom crank, welded cylinder deck and installation of a Yam DT-175 jug with the best of the cylinder heads from 85 with the center located spark plug and shaved for higher compression as we as ported mildly. Using the larger reed cage of the DT and a custom intake and boot running a 28mm Mikuni round slide. Clutch was modified for a higher stall speed engagement as well as the DT cylinder was modified, they had great transfer ports but a poor exhaust port design. Welding up the top of the exhaust port on the outside and the removal of the restrictive blockage of the original casting was removed for a free flowing downstream system. They run pretty well though even in stock trim when they aren't beaten into the ground and left for dead! Lol.
That was the only three wheeler that I’ve owned. I had so much fun with it and almost makes me want to buy one if I had a place to ride it. Great video
I bought a 2005 crf150f and there was a huge nest in the air box and 2 dead mice. Ram like a champ tho. Still smell of decaying mice, they literally melted, it was fun cleaning it out
Of course you’d have one of these on now, one week after I sold my ‘82 175… bought for $100, seized engine, new piston, rings, pull cord spring… sold for $1000
any three wheeler non honda is a rarity! keep up the great work, i love the vids. you have inspired me to start workin on atvs. jus bought an 01 rancher for 200 and now it runs again!
Love the vids man! Actually the trimoto 125 was made from 1979 till 1985. I have a really nice condition trimoto 125 1985 with all original tires and stickers, love that little thing.
Those had the weight really far back in the chassis. I have had good luck with a few ounces of ATF in the old tires or good old fix-a-flat to slow/stop leaks and get more life from those old low-pressure tires. Especially since it's so important for the tire OD size (pressure) to match for the back on a live axle rig. Great job!!!!
I just picked up an 83 yt175 a few days ago, albeit in a lot worse shape. Will definitely try what you did with the shifter as mine has even more play than yours did
Have you tried using a turkey baster for feeding fuel into the carb fuel line? They are also good for sucking out water / oil ect out of bottom end of 2 stroke engines. Handy to have around.
Yeah, riding a 3 wheeler with a flat back tire definitely takes some skill. With enough seat time Joe, you’ll learn how to nurse an atc home with a flat rear tire…..it takes balance while standing up on the pegs!
Safe to say that carb is definitely going in the carb dip for awhile! That was some nasty crap in there. The oil in the carb likely leaked past the pump and check valve if it sat for a long time. My H2 Kaw triple used to do that if it sat for awhile. Thanks for a cool video, Joe!
Out of the tri motos that 175 is the rarest one produced. The 200cc the 1985 ytm 200cc was the rarest. Only year they made 5 speed, with reverse, electric start, shaft drive, and telescopic front forks
That's a great find for sure. Speaking of rare wheelers I picked up a 84 Manco 310 Quest. Still has the original tire's on it and is in great shape. I'm the 3rd owner

The way your wrench snaps up in the air when your removing the spark plug and taking it off the socket, I did that and hit the crossover fuel line on my Yamaha which is exposed above the cylinder head and gas was spilling everywhere haha
Those metal stick valve stem bar tools come in handy for replacing them with to. They pivot to pry down to pop them through the rims very easy to with. A little bit of soap they will pop through until it seats into place when the stem is to the putter rim edge. Just make sure that area is cleaned up good first. Before reinstalling A new replacement vavle stem in it's place. Yes those tires needed replaced A very long time ago. A 1/4 cup of kerosene to presoak into that muffler.& then burn it out good. After the exhaust has been removed from the engine will bring up the tourche.& horsepower to. I remember that three wheeler growing up years ago.
Hell ya tri moto zinger , very nice. Super fun. 👌 awesome find. Wow that 2 stroke mix really helped the inside of that carb, awesome storage idea, long as it's clean

My friend. I have watched this and the other one you did and i cant seem to find where the black nipple on the front of that carb runs to??? Can you help me
As others have said Yam Dt175 motors almost bulletproof and will shrug off plenty of abuse. In '78 they revised the model with a monoshock rear, cdi ign, lighter plastic components and a six speed transmission to make a very popular and successful trail bike, more nimble and responsive than the rather heavier and slower revving 250. Wondering if your trike has a 5 speed, as it probably weighs more?
