Great video in REAL TIME.. I have a Les Paul that needs a new overlay as the original was damaged during a headstock break, It's glued back up now but the veneer is ruined, I'm gonna get one similar to yours & later waterslide the "Les Paul Model" in gold over the veneer before the nitro. ROCK ON!! Gary/Hk
I know this is an old video I've noticed that it helps heating the putty knife with a heat gun once you get it in there with the combo of heating the veneer. Just in case anyone watching is thinking of doing it
Set list was fire lol I would have personally used a holly maple veneer and inlays my own mother of pearl inlay like a real 50, 60s gibson. Although you did a great job anyways cheers
I have a Vintage V100, Les paul style guitar, the veneer overlay on got damaged during tuner bushings removal; It seems to be a very hard kind of plastic or resin. Would this method work with that guitar - does anyone know?
I have a 1986 Les Paul Standard that the clear coat has peeled off the face of the headstock. This has been going on for a number of years. I called Gibson and got the "oh, we don't warranty finishes" so I've been living with this sad looking mess for years. I bought this guitar new and yes, it has some nicks and scratches, along with Les' signature. Can you help?
+rossfr Yeah , I tried to sand the bubbles or flakes of clear off but the gibson logo was too fragile to save. not sure if you need to sand nitro of first , but I did because I first planned on using a Gibson water decal to replace original, which actually I think may have been a decal . I say this because my 94 studio Les Paul Logo looks much better and more like gold flake screen print......So I wanted a better looking option than a decal even though I think some older Gibsons (70s, 80s )came with a water decal........ The crox overlay has plastic pearloid inlays I believe , but I like the look....anyway......Its just a pawn shop sg special, but i like it ........If you decide to do the same go to croxguitars and read steps provided.... needs an ebony stain on overlay as well as clear coat which can be clear lacquer instead of nitro (lasts longer ) and should not affect sound at all :) ......................... I will have next video of stain and clear soon...
+TheWesDrake precise? yes precisely....the way croxguitar ... the vendor says to precisely ..to remove an old overlay..basically a sticker on wood......any more questions?.....hmmmmmmm?
Helpful video but Words instead of music would be nice. I'm trying to follow in real time and reading the screen is a pain. Just explain what you're doing.
Guess they don’t have time-lapse in Tennessee, any hoo , thanks for the video was informative

How many millimeters of veneer thickness?
did you sand out the nitro coating first before using the wet cloth and iron? thanx!

Exactly what I want to do 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hey I'm somewhere in TN too! Ever done this with a vaneer top?
No , Haven't tried that yet
No way I live in TN
can i do that with a epiphone sg? i mean remove the epiphone overlay with logo
MLG ita yup
No leave it alone, a genuine SG overlay will not fit your Epi headstock . . . or make it a Gibson
@@ronaldrichardson9038 Exactly! But the headstock will not break off since it's not a Gibson!
You are not letting it get hot enough dude . . .
Can you shoot me a link on where you purchased the Gibson veneer please
Thanks

Rio Adrianto stupid comment
If you use a scraper with more rust on it...it's much better....lol
It's really thin
Head the scraper up on the face of the iron helps too chaps, great job !!
