Feels like the Batman who’s laughs ultimate power is that he can never lose. So many times the writers sound like they wrote themselves into a corner and then was like ‘well he’s Batman right? So he always has a plan’. 🤣 Just a thought tho
Facts. They went too far to the point where it’s not even fun to read anymore. It’s too much to remember and too much going on that leaves everyone confused
As a guy who used to do some comic art, Batman who laughs seems to really just be an excuse to draw Batman’s costume and jokers mouth a billion times because they’re just cool, fun symbols that are easy to draw and be expressive with. But it can get really masturbatory. The count of how many joker grins are featured throughout this video is pretty insane. It would be alot of artists dream Kobe no question.

Multiverses work in comics for purely practical reasons. They’re weekly or monthly stories. There’s an established way characters can behave. Eventually you start to run out of ideas or at the very least you want to try something new, say you want to do a story where Batman is a vampire? You can’t really do that in the main story, so you do it in a standalone. I believe it was called elseworlds in DC. Then as a neat narrative way of sort of making all these iterations canon, you create your multiverse. I think that’s fine, and the occasional multiverse event that actually changes the canon like Flashpoint is great. The problem is that it’s become a crutch for lazy story telling. A weird attempt to add complexity where there doesn’t need to be any. A multiverse event should feel special. It should be rare. Now it feels like it’s everywhere, it’s totally lost it’s impact Want to bring back a dead character? Multiverse Want a nice deus ex machina? Multiverse Character popular and you don’t want to write them out of the main story? Multiverse. MCU has been especially bad for this. I firmly believe that their multiverse isn’t what they wanted to do, it’s just the only way they could shoe horn the x-men into the main continuity. A smaller team like FF you can just pop them in, they didn’t have powers when all the avengers stuff was happening it’s fine. But x-men? Mutants? They’re an entire species of human, millions of them worldwide. You can’t do 10 mcu movies and never even mention them so how do you get them in? Multiverse. As a result it’s all just felt so rushed and boring.
It’s important for artists to be able to feel creative, and yes sometimes even silly. Batman as it was, was good. But I can see how it would be creatively stifling and unrewarding.
You know what this video helped me to see? That I know next to nothing about comics anymore lol. I used to pride myself on what knowledge I had but they’ve changed so much I can’t keep up. Either way, good job on this video. A lot of hard work and prep and research. Very thorough! 👍🏾👍🏾
Batman from Arkham Knight was this close in becoming the Batman who laughs, good thing Scarecrow unintentionally got rid of the Joker who is inside Bruce's mind
I think in the end, Batman used the Joker in him to neutralize the Scarecrow's to in. After that, it was a matter of regaining control from the Joker. And lock him away deep within his mind, to forever be forgotten.
I might be late, but it is the idea that every version of batman exists in every alternate universe. Marvel explore this concept in their "What If" series, where they explore what happens if story events had gone differently.
