They got to Diesels too? That sucks! I figured they didn't need any computer assistance because they're already the most efficient piston engine. There really is a conspiracy to force us to bring vehicles to the dealer or someplace else where they charge an arm and a leg!
Been that way for quite some time. I think mid to late 90's was when it started on consumer vehicles, gives them cleaner emissions, more power, and better fuel economy.
The only thing the EPA put on them that really messed with stuff is the DPF and EGR systems. Other than that a computer controlled diesel will always have more power and better economy than a mechanical one.
that roadway truck was part of the yellow, roadway consolidated. they dont sell them off until there is nothing left. the hood release is inside the cab in the center of the dash. they cut the plastic fender out as the latches and cables fail. that volvo engine is a 12.1L ve12. not a great engine in most cases.
thats no kidding my dad retired from roadway. they paid really well but man. i went to vist him at work a few times and he would show me all the short cuts they took..and how some of the tires were old enough to vote as he put it haha. once the trucks were used up usually they'd ship them to mexico.
Rust and salt killed it. I have seen a s10 truck come from the NY area and it's frame looked like a croissant bread. Flake layers of rusty metal Batman.
God I love scrap yards use to work in them they not like that in England any more god I'd love to have some of them American cars n pickups just love it
Here in Sydney we have rear engine Volvo city buses with 12litre turbo engines dating from 2005. I wonder if they are the same engine as in this? They pack some performance but absolutely munch through the diesel.
roadway (yellow) is were my dad works that truck probably has over 1 million miles they run them into the ground Uncle had a new volo semi pretty nice trucks
The tans, diff and tanks are worth money make sure you take them!! The hood release is in the cab on volvo's Those stickers you show at the end are fuel tax stickers used U.S. and Canada wide.
It looks very much like that turbo has swallowed something it shouldn't judging by all the pitting on the intake vanes. I bet that made some really interesting sounds...
It looks like there could still be plenty of parts on this that could be sold on. That engine looks like it might be a fairly recent rebuilt or replacement unit, but if it did swallow something through the intake it might well be smashed inside... I would guess that the computer stuff that has been removed might be at least partly related to the tachograph/vehicle log equipment...
in 2014 i was given a 2014 volvo truck to drive. constant problems with it. too many to list. finally it was sent back to volvo for a major factory defect. i drove freightliners after that. also some problems but nowhere near as bad.
u should buy a gopro hero 5 and headmount so u don't have to put the camera down every time you have to open a hood (or bonnet as we call it down under) and maybe even a dash mount
Will you guys sell any of the cabovers I’m looking for one to restore. Also green belts mean nothing but they look practically brand new. Also, the regen is a pain in the a$$.
There should be a latch under the steering wheel to pop the hood but i seen it was gone when you were looking inside I seen the cable hanging though. Lots of good parts left.
I'd love to get another one of those short single axle trucks especially a volvo to use as a pickup truck ,, i already have a farm tractor made out of a semi tractor ,, and a Tow truck made out of one ,,and an RV/motorcoach i built out of a grain truck ,, i live in Iowa and finding a single axle day cab truck is really hard ,,and they sell for crazy prices you mentioned those stickers ,, the one that says IFTA is a certification/inspection sticker ,, somewhere on it is one that says FMCSA and has dates on it ,, that's the annual inspection sticker saying it is certified to operate in revenue service ,, FMCSA is short for Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
You can make alot mobey by parting it out the hood can bring u some good money engine and trans bring a couple grands doors hopefully u part it out before crushing

some good cameras would be a sony a6000/a6300, canon powershot sx720, canon g7x or a canon t7i. it all depends on how much money your willing to spend.
If you're looking for a decent dedicated camcorder look at the Canon VIXIA R series. About $200 new and the video quality is pretty good. I've been using my older R500 for a few years now.
The new volvos the hood opens on the inside. Also some of the rust on that frame could be significant considering its a commercial vehicle, you were taking off some large chunks there.
Probably had mileage in the millions of miles. A former client of mine used to rack up 250k miles a year on a tractor. If the wheels weren't turning, they weren't earning....
I'm curious J why do you think they jump that truck the Volvo semi it's not even that wore out it's only a 2005 she's you think it could have gone another 10 years at least what do you think man could you let me know?
Canon EOS digital Rebel are beginner level slr cameras but they have decent video recording function. And they aren't as expensive as a $6,000 Canon 1DX Mk II that's a pro camera! The rebels are $300 or so
But the question is will it run? lol I'm guessing too much removed from it to run and probably has a bad engine for them to have left it in the truck. Still some good stuff on it though. Pintle hitch, air tanks etc. that 382 filter setup would be good for wmo or wvo.
Scrapped after only 12 years? Diesels are more durable than that-they must have gotten rid of for apperances' sake...meaning that they're more concerned about how they are looked at, rather than if they can get the job done. Wish I had a spot for it-it would make an interesting diesel-rod project.
that volvo is healthy.. why crush it ? i understand if it got a blown engine and tranny because parts might be hard to get over there. they usually keep going. know of one from my last workplace that hit almost 1 mil miles with just normal maintence.. only problem it had tru all those miles was a defect injector on cyl 3. pretty amazing considering fuelpump and turbo load was altered.. all drivers loved that truck.. it ripped uphill like it it had no payload. the cab alone is worth alot.. strip it. clean it and and a layer of primer... now you should be able to get like 8k. then its a ready to do project that people is willing to pay more for.. 8k is even a low number. .
What is this truck worth in scrap value? I'd be interested in one that runs, not to haul with, just as a project vehicle. Throw a pickup bed on and dump the fairing.
Gunga Dinn I wouldn't even bother.yea it would be cool but don't get one out of a scrap yard that's been missing parts like the one in the video. Especially Volvo. engines are eh ok I guess. But everything is computerized in it and has to be programmed through a special Volvo software tool. Plus parts are super expensive
Gunga Dinn not much pretty much the frame bumper engine and trans rear axles fuel tank steps rims front axle the cab is mostly fiberglass along with the hood
If you are going to use that motor for anything keep in mind they never change oil, they have a drip system that puts the oil in to the fuel tank and they just keep adding to the oil.
GoPro Hero 4 Silver Retails for around $200. Capable to take 4K video, and comes with special features like adjustable frames per second, slow motion capture, and the ability to change the frame width.
738.4 cubic inches. The turbo is cool, those gas tanks have got to be good for something!
The engine looks pretty clean after you read the label saying,do not pressure wash it lol..
Used to drive one in an old job. Was a pretty nice truck!
That looks in pretty good shape. It would make a pretty cool pick up truck.
still lots of good parts on that one ....even the frame is still roadworthy sell that too !
definitely good for parts i would hold onto that engine/trans, maybe even use the cab on your rig so its road drivable again
I drove a sleeper version back in 05 this thing was beat too HELL and back damn!!!
Btw Volvo owns Mack. The mp7 and 8 engines are a Volvo d series engine
Looks good pictures Quality
The only true junkyard item I saw was that cargo container in the background.... Sheesh! Never saw one so rusted that it leaned like that!
Now I say this would be a great rescue project for you and get some more views on "Staring the first ever truck derby " !!
The thing I love about Diesel engines is that they don't need a computer. Rudolph Diesel's first engine ran on peanut oil if memory serves.
'Old' diesel engines don't need a computer, same with old gas engines. Modern gas and Diesel engines need a computer to run.
Dave Kauffman Yeah, if it works good don't worry, the EPA will find a way to screw it up!
The only thing the EPA put on them that really messed with stuff is the DPF and EGR systems. Other than that a computer controlled diesel will always have more power and better economy than a mechanical one.
Just found your channel today Jay, subscribed. Lots of good stuff!
Wouldn't doubt if she has over a million on it. Probably 1.5
Looks like 12.1-liter V12 Volvo. Don't know much about them. But great video. Love to put that under a heavy duty truck. Lol
Ricky Trager ahem. 12 liter D12 series engine. Inline 6 not a v12
that roadway truck was part of the yellow, roadway consolidated. they dont sell them off until there is nothing left. the hood release is inside the cab in the center of the dash. they cut the plastic fender out as the latches and cables fail. that volvo engine is a 12.1L ve12. not a great engine in most cases.
J.C. SMITH PROJECTS hi
thats no kidding my dad retired from roadway. they paid really well but man. i went to vist him at work a few times and he would show me all the short cuts they took..and how some of the tires were old enough to vote as he put it haha. once the trucks were used up usually they'd ship them to mexico.
Rust and salt killed it. I have seen a s10 truck come from the NY area and it's frame looked like a croissant bread. Flake layers of rusty metal Batman.
Very very interesting that something you don’t see every.
YRC really beats the shit out of their equipment.
Considering the amount of parts that have been picked off of it, I would guess this was the parts truck on the lot before it got scrapped.
roadway (yellow) is were my dad works that truck probably has over 1 million miles they run them into the ground
Uncle had a new volo semi pretty nice trucks
Over a million miles!!! I work for Yellow! Some are still running today! Old linehaul tractor!
The tow truck driver Who brought you that is feerless.... only 2 nuts on the front left wheel 😨
Front tires never touched the ground during tow
Alex EspoWRX the drive shaft is not removed , the steering wheel is tied up and the way its parked in front of something really looks like a rear tow
There's no point in pulling the driveshaft on a junker
Well that's all ya need really. Mint
Considering the mud on the front tires but not the rears, I would say that points to rear tow also.
I love the video
Congrats on 20k
The tans, diff and tanks are worth money make sure you take them!! The hood release is in the cab on volvo's
Those stickers you show at the end are fuel tax stickers used U.S. and Canada wide.
Nice! Thanks 4 uploading
Good place for that truck
It looks very much like that turbo has swallowed something it shouldn't judging by all the pitting on the intake vanes. I bet that made some really interesting sounds...
It looks like there could still be plenty of parts on this that could be sold on. That engine looks like it might be a fairly recent rebuilt or replacement unit, but if it did swallow something through the intake it might well be smashed inside...

Old Girl Done a Bit of Work by the looks of it
Seems like some good parts if you chop it up right.
Poor truck. Rip
good truck literally driven into the ground. it deserved better.
in 2014 i was given a 2014 volvo truck to drive. constant problems with it. too many to list. finally it was sent back to volvo for a major factory defect. i drove freightliners after that. also some problems but nowhere near as bad.
u should buy a gopro hero 5 and headmount so u don't have to put the camera down every time you have to open a hood (or bonnet as we call it down under) and maybe even a dash mount
Please make the "there's crap on the lens " t-shirt s . If you do I'll buy a couple 😎
Damn, thats something id like to see run
Congrats on 20k 🎉🎉
Will you guys sell any of the cabovers I’m looking for one to restore. Also green belts mean nothing but they look practically brand new. Also, the regen is a pain in the a$$.
I hear cell phone cameras do the trick these days 😂
Congrats on 20k subs
There should be a latch under the steering wheel to pop the hood but i seen it was gone when you were looking inside I seen the cable hanging though. Lots of good parts left.
That's one of our old trucks. I work at yrc and that's a old roadway truck. About 2 to 3 million miles I'm guessing that's when we junk them.
I would love to see you crush a semi truck
Green belt is silicone rubber, Some radiator hoses are green or blue. All silicon rubber, much longer lasting !
The motor that is in the truck is a volvo d series engine either the d12 a b c or d and they are a pain in the butt to work on
Lol there ya go Jay put that in ur s10.
I'd love to get another one of those short single axle trucks especially a volvo to use as a pickup truck ,, i already have a farm tractor made out of a semi tractor ,, and a Tow truck made out of one ,,and an RV/motorcoach i built out of a grain truck ,, i live in Iowa and finding a single axle day cab truck is really hard ,,and they sell for crazy prices
you mentioned those stickers ,, the one that says IFTA is a certification/inspection sticker ,,
somewhere on it is one that says FMCSA and has dates on it ,, that's the annual inspection sticker saying it is certified to operate in revenue service ,, FMCSA is short for Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
Y'all resale some good things
You can make alot mobey by parting it out the hood can bring u some good money engine and trans bring a couple grands doors hopefully u part it out before crushing
Do you have demolition ranch next door to you? It sure sounds like it with all those bangs in the background!

Fuck u
We're scraping an '09 Kenworth. Looks good but it will never be on the road again. Hoping to get $5.5k for it as it needs a clutch.
Volvo owns Mack now have owned it since 2000 or so
Volvo trucks owns Renault also . Renault magnum serie (verry odd looking truck , look like 2 lego blocks) used to have Mack engines.
some good cameras would be a sony a6000/a6300, canon powershot sx720, canon g7x or a canon t7i. it all depends on how much money your willing to spend.
Go pro and a chest strap
If you're looking for a decent dedicated camcorder look at the Canon VIXIA R series. About $200 new and the video quality is pretty good. I've been using my older R500 for a few years now.
Very beutyfull truck
Cool :)
The new volvos the hood opens on the inside.

Probably had mileage in the millions of miles. A former client of mine used to rack up 250k miles a year on a tractor. If the wheels weren't turning, they weren't earning....
If you can afford it yet a Canon G7X. That's an awesome little camera.
I'm curious J why do you think they jump that truck the Volvo semi it's not even that wore out it's only a 2005 she's you think it could have gone another 10 years at least what do you think man could you let me know?
Any chance you could try to get it running? Also if you have any Miatas I'd like to see videos on them.
If you said it in the video then I must have missed it because I didn't have time to view the whole thing
Hood pop is on the inside Jay in the center of dash
Canon EOS digital Rebel are beginner level slr cameras but they have decent video recording function. And they aren't as expensive as a $6,000 Canon 1DX Mk II that's a pro camera! The rebels are $300 or so
What do you think about Volvo switching to all electric cars. It was in the news a while back. I think it's a bad idea.
But the question is will it run? lol I'm guessing too much removed from it to run and probably has a bad engine for them to have left it in the truck. Still some good stuff on it though. Pintle hitch, air tanks etc. that 382 filter setup would be good for wmo or wvo.
They took the ECU, it must have internal damage.
radiator alone could be worth some bucks
Camera seems fine to me. I still use a phone camera!
Looks like a former YRC tractor. If it's there it's worn out
Dam Rip the truck but she deserves to rest
If you get one of these in running you should run it abit
What do you have the spreepark Ferris wheel in the background squealing away or something anyway nice video
The hood release is under the steering wheel in a Volvo semi.
Yes ecu was taken
Scrapped after only 12 years? Diesels are more durable than that-they must have gotten rid of for apperances' sake...meaning that they're more concerned about how they are looked at, rather than if they can get the job done. Wish I had a spot for it-it would make an interesting diesel-rod project.
Lateef Carrere That truck has been used up in that time. Probably has close to 2 million miles.
Slip seated truck. Drivers that are slip seated don't take care of them.
old roadway truck drove for them for 46 year's .hood release center of dash
Camera, Sony RX100
The tag on the engine (12.1) liter 270 hp Detroit diesel. There's a lot of money left on that truck.
I would suggest a go pro hero 4 lot of youtubers use them they are pretty good cameras
Did u ever get to the cabover?
That semi went thru hurrcane waters and or flood water i can tell believe me im from n.y
that volvo is healthy.. why crush it ?
i understand if it got a blown engine and tranny because parts might be hard to get over there.
they usually keep going.
know of one from my last workplace that hit almost 1 mil miles with just normal maintence..
only problem it had tru all those miles was a defect injector on cyl 3.
pretty amazing considering fuelpump and turbo load was altered..
all drivers loved that truck.. it ripped uphill like it it had no payload.
the cab alone is worth alot..
strip it. clean it and and a layer of primer... now you should be able to get like 8k.
then its a ready to do project that people is willing to pay more for.. 8k is even a low number.
.
Most volvo trucks have a hood latch in the interior like a car, under the steering column
ECM goes there. Looks like a 12.1 Liter
Is there gun range near by? Or is some on having fun at the funeral house
05 huh. Not to old. Would have made an alright tow pig or yard truck
Gunga Dinn not much pretty much the frame bumper engine and trans rear axles fuel tank steps rims front axle the cab is mostly fiberglass along with the hood
the computer that was pulled is easy 2k... your never getting one "that runs" lol unless you find the most stupid yard ever.
Go to a salvage auction or a used truck auction site, not a junkyard.
so dose the comany u work for take things apart?
bc thats a company id work for
If you are going to use that motor for anything keep in mind they never change oil, they have a drip system that puts the oil in to the fuel tank and they just keep adding to the oil.
Marty Marsh what in the heck are you talking about?
I was talking to the man that made this video and that don't look like you.
Marty Marsh I work on these trucks and there is no such "system" on any of these. Check your facts before you tell other people nonsense
There may not be now, but he said that is an 05 and I know they had them then.
Marty Marsh I've never seen em. I've worked on 03 and up with Freightliner, Volvo, Mack (Volvo), Pete, and Kenworth. Never seen em
Any video on that red Jeep XJ???
Former Roadway/YRC truck?
Do you guys have problems with people hitting the vehicles with things
Set off the airbag, would like to see how big it is on a truck
Troels Weile same as a car if it even has one
Looks like an old ycr truck looks like it was just taken off the road it's got the current hut sticker and 2017 ifta sticker
GoPro Hero 4 Silver
Retails for around $200.
Capable to take 4K video, and comes with special features like adjustable frames per second, slow motion capture, and the ability to change the frame width.
Volvo hoods open from the inside
