    ABOUT: 🔻
Eluveitie is a Swiss folk metal band from Winterthur, Zürich, founded in 2002 by Chrigel Glanzmann. The project's first demo, Vên, was released in 2003. Vên was a studio project of Glanzmann's, but its success led to the recruitment of a full band. The band then released a full-length album, Spirit, in June 2006.

El-vay-tee Dashy. Eluveitie. Anna Murphy is singing here. She took up vocal duty when Anny left to form Cellar Darling.
Please do Rebirth, Exile of the Gods and Aidus as well. (They have Fabi on vocals)

I may or may not have binged alot of your videos today and had to check your reaction to this song. This Song was released sometime in 2012 and a Friend of mine was absolutly into this Band. At that point i never had heard of 'em. So we were talkin and listening to music when i realised,...wait a moment...this melody is very familiar....
So i checked my phone and showed to him "Blood Stain Child - Metropolis". Funny enough, a song released in 2007ish has the exact same melody at the beginning.
So far I found out, that certain melody at the beginning is some part of celtic folk melodies, so its absolutly ancient. But hell, its a banger.
Both songs are so top notch. I find myself going back to them from time to time again.
Wanted to point out that similarity. Quickly give it a short listen and have a smile.

Great reaction. Anna was their first singer and also their hurdy gurdy player. She and another member left the band when the then drummer was kicked out of the band. The three formed the band Cellar Darling which is also an amazing group worth listening to (recommend Dance). Fabienne was then brought in as her replacement as singer and Michalina was her replacement on the hurdy gurdy . Michalina recently left for family reasons and has been replaced by Annie Riedinger, aka Annie Hurdy Gurdy. She has a great youtube channel on all things hurdy gurdy and other folk/medievel instruments. (Can you tell I am a hugh hurdy gurdy fan). The band has had a number of female members over the years, mainly on hurdy gurdy and violin as well as a lot of turn over among members as well. Chrigel and the band members take the historical aspects of their music seriously and do put in a lot of work to get things correct, talking with historians and archeologists. This song is from their album Helvetios which has songs about the Gaul tribe of the same name that was the original inhabitants of the Swiss plateau and from which the latin name for Switzerland, Helvetia, comes. The story is of a young Helvetican women in the middle of the Gallic wars with Rome. They have just lost a battle with the Romans. Her husband is likely dead and her situation is desperate. She is turning to one of her gods, Epona, and accusing her of abandoning her people. Epona was the goddess of horses and calvalry and was actually added to the pantheon of Roman gods which is unusual. The traditional form of worship was to place freshly cut roses or rose petals in her temples.

One of the cool things about this band is that they sing some of their songs in the ancient language of the Gauls, Gaulish. It is a dead language that has been resurrected by scholars. Omnos is one such song. Great song and worthy of reaction. One of their most popular songs is a tribute to Switzerland, The Call of the Mountains. There are 5 different recordings. One in English, and one each in the four languages of Switzerland (German, French, Italian, and Romansh). One of my favorite songs by them is Inis Mona.

Great reaction and such an awesome band! I've always heard the band's name pronounced something like "el-VAY-tee" or "elu-VAY-tee". To see their range, including both lighter and heavier songs, I'd recommend "The Call of the Mountains," "Exile of the Gods," "Rebirth," and "Aidus" to start.

The main thing to keep in mind about Eluveitie is to not get too attached to any of the band members. Other then Chrigel, every single other member of the band has been replaced multiple times. This is by design. Chrigel doesn't want his band mates to feel like they have to be committed long term to him or the band. He essentially has an open door policy. Some people stick around for years, others may only be there for a single tour or album and then they're gone. In total there have been at least 30 different members in the band including the current lineup.

They have many great songs and one of my favorite bands as well! If you want to hear Fabienne sing, you can check Rebirth or Ategnatos. For more Anna Murphy, you can check The Call of the Mountains.
