Very thoughtful review. I think I agree with everything. It's so cool to see the world building/conclusion to the Golden Path. But it's a lot of people standing around talking philosophy. Very interesting ideas but not "fun" or as you say, "entertaining". It's also really long!
I loved the relationship stuff. That was tragic.
While Duncan wasn't the same, I felt that was the interesting part. It's like cloning your favorite dog over and over for Leto. The forgetting was the hard part.
    The Museum Fremen were WILD.
I'm glad I read it but I'm not itching for a reread.

Thanks for watching! I feel like with Duncan the idea is fantastic, but the iteration of Duncan we see, this copy, was really boring, I think I would like the idea more if we saw several copies one after another, and then could compare them and see how they reacted differently/the same and through that could explore a lot of cool ideas.
Oh and yeah the museum freman are probably my faveorite part of the book, if we had spent more time with them Nd especially with Duncan living among them trying to teach them what he knows of the freman, I would of enjoyed it more.
I agree I am glad I read it, but I was expecting more. Perhaps in a year or so I will give it a re-read and see how it stands up then.

I felt that though when I found out the worms go away for a while it really hit deep cuz it’s like all of my love for dune came from arrakis and eveything it was with the worms, it’s such a sureal type of ghetto feeling I get thinking about how diversified the fremen are yet how harsh living conditions are for them in this infinite desert. Just thinking about nights on arrakis may seem dreadful for others but is something I wish I could legitimately experience. The characteristics of the worms and spice have a even harder grasp of my curiosity so when I find out it goes away, it’s kind like the planet just gets destroyed. Everything that grabs ahold of readers is basically gone by god emperor

Yeah, The Arrakis in this book is a far cry from the one of the first three for sure. There are hints of it still, which makes the changes very sorrowful I think, really hit me how much the Freman had lost of themselves and their world. Can't argue that the planet is better to live on by the time of God Emperor, but it's lost its soul.

Really enjoyed listening to your considered approach to what the book offered and how it was or wasnt for you. Thank you!

Great video and I feel the same way. Loved a lot of the ideas and world-building but reading it as a narrative really was a bit of a slog. Interesting thought about how our expectations may change our experience with the book. I also came into it really excited, knowing a lot of people considered God Emperor the pinnacle of the series. Unfortunately after getting through it my appetite for Dune is blunted somewhat. Gonna take a break and then some before reading the last two books.

I agree, my appetite for Dune definitely took a hit. I am just now considering putting Heretics of Dune back on my shortlist pile of books to read soon. Thanks so much :)

Heresy! l actually loved God Emperor and found it really really interesting. Can't really agree with you, but to each his own.

Don't tell the Fish Speakers about my heresy!
Yeah I think I am definitely in the minority on this one, I was just expecting a lot more, fun I suppose, after so many people saying it was their favorite of the series.
I'm really glad you liked it!

    What about chapter house?

I have not yet got to Heretics of Dune or Chapterhouse Dune yet. Taking a break after reading the first 4 books in a few weeks. I suspect I will get to Heretics and Chapterhouse in a few months.

Hmmmmmm...Interesting. Let the book sit with you for a while - it'll do it's work over time.

You know, sometimes I fear the downside of reading so many books, is some like god Emperor may not have the time to marinate that they need afterwards. Jumping into a new book within 12 hours of finishing the last and all.
I do hope my opinion changes on a re-read, which I suspect I will do next year.
      Thanks for watching!

This is also my least favourite of the six original books. Like yourself, I enjoyed the philosophical themes and some of the interests concepts and ideas explored, however the story itself is not as compelling as the others. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it overall.

I think I would of enjoyed it more had I not been so excited to get to it, with everyone loving it so much. I agree though, the ideas and concepts are fanastic, just nothing really happens story wise that's compelling. Oh well! Not every book is everyones cup of tea I suppose! How did you enjoy Heretics? I am considering diving back into Dune soon

@@BenjaminsBookclub Heretics and Chatperhouse Dune return to the more common style associated with Frank Herbert seen throughout Dune and Children of Dune. I think you’ll enjoy then a lot more
