*Absolutely let the product cool before you put the food into the jars.* For many things the test of dryness should be done after it is cool, anyway. It's also good to let the newly filled jars to sit on the counter for a few days. Just give then a shake to see if anything is sticking together or sticking to the bottom of the jar (a possible sign of too much moisture) At the same time check for any condensation on the inside of the jar. During this time, the remaining moisture (normal) in the food redistributes itself so all pieces have approximately the same % of moisture. A jar filling tip: I bought a NEW, cheap (Dollar General, Family Dollar ?) plain plastic cat litter tray. It's rectangular shape is ideal for receiving foods from the Excalibur Trays. (I'm not concerned about the kind of plastic, as we're dealing with dry foods.) Easy to dump loose stuff off the trays. Easy to put the edge of a dehydrator tray on the bottom, and scrape down the stuff that sticks. Then, stir a bit to speed up cooling. When cool, clean out a place in the center of the pan to put a jar. Fill the jar. Any thing that spills, falls right back into the pan. Easy to get the last bits out by tilting the pan so everything goes to one corner. Ready to pour into the last jar. Thanks for sharing. A dehydrator and a vacuum sealer are a combo well worth owning, IMO.
Omg! That’s genius! I’ve been dehydrating for years and never thought to do that. I just put a trash bag on the table for the crumbs. That’s really smart ☺️
