After watching this, statistics doesn’t look like a good major at all. Statistician- Need higher education Financial analyst- Better suited for finance people Market researcher- Need background in finance Economist- Need advance degree plus not feasible with just a stat degree Database Administrator- More suitable for someone in CS. Now what are we left with? Data science, business analyst and software engineering. If someone wants to do data science and software engineering then why not just choose computer science that way you will have far more career prospects. So only good options after a stat degree is a business analyst? After watching few of your videos I can't seem to understand how you are so optimistic about this major while explaining the doomsday scenario.
These are not the only 10 jobs you can get, they were actually just 10 listed out on some career website so I ranked them. Data analyst, business analyst, ACTUARY, all great careers that a stats major can get with just an undergrad ..
Great video! Data science is something I'm pursuing. I was wondering if you could do a video on statistics classes a major or minor would take. So Zach Star has a video where he did this with Math called "A look at some higher level math classes | Getting a math minor" I was wondering if could do a video inspired by that that leads you through the broad subject areas in statistics and maybe how they relate to real life applications and jobs.
That’s definitely something I can add to my list, currently there is one on my channel where I go over every class I’ve taken in my stats degree though!
If you are going to study Data Science DS, then there is a good chance you are going to get scammed. Most institutions will teach you DS as algorithms only, aka AI and ML. But that will not make you a real data scientist. To be a real data scientist, in addition to AI and ML, you need to have a very strong background in statistics and the work domain. I even recommend studying bachelor of Statistics before studying DS. You can skip statistics if you are going to skip the data analysis role of DS, and going to work on black box models only, ex. deep learning.
i've seen online that you can't really become a software developer with a statistics degree. Do you agree with this statement? What can you do to increase your chances of landing the software job?
Thanks for your input! Great video as always. I was just wondering about your opinion on the data science major? I know it's a relatively new degree, and some people tell me to choose a cs, statistics, or applied math major over a data science major, but the major itself sounds appealing to me because it offers a broad spectrum of courses including computer science and math.
Invest banking isn’t the first thing I’d be thinking of when I was a statistics major but I’m sure it would be possible with right financial background

Yes that’s definitely a possibility, statistical concepts would be very important in conducting studies as a lot of people in those fields may not have a statistics background … look up concepts in experiment design!
@@ChristianGardner Disagree a lot on your statement I've done a double bachelor in neuroscience and psychology in amsterdam.
