You inspired me to choose statistics as my major. For so long I was terrified of choosing the wrong degree for me. But what you had once mentioned stuck with me: “being able to use statistics to your advantage makes you feel like a wizard” or something like that. I had found that quote pretty funny; but what I had taken away from that was, that if I could learn to think like a statistician and apply that to my life, I’d be able to accomplish anything I’d put my mind to, even if I wanted to pivot to alternative career in my life.

They say the same about masters programs.. but as time passes, the computer science masters and the data science masters are pretty much the same. Take UT Austin for example their masters of computer science and data science are nearly one and the same and it gives you choice of classes, so if I end up taking 6/10 classes at align with the data science masters, I’d still have a computer science degree but it’s only different in title…content wise computer science would have more systems courses but the data science degree would have probability/stats based for the remaining 4 classes

I think the problem a lot of people have is that, while they don't know what they want to do, they also need to major in something they are good at to meet GPA requirements. Most people don't excel or like anything that is going to make them a lot of money. If you're not good at STEM in HS, your options are serverly limited.

Is a managerial economics and a minor in computer science, just as good as a statistics major?

I clicked on this video because I remember really enjoying taking my statistics class but I hate math so I definitely would not have majored in it. I also wanted to say that I also went through a lot of different paths with finding which major was for me and I finally figured out from a starting point of political science to fisheries that I really want to be a zoology major and work in the museum that I volunteer at! All it takes is a little bit of exploring and experiencing things firsthand to actually know if you want to do it for forever!

yo bro, this mighta been a huge wake up for me. took an intro to data science course last year as a freshman and was looking so hard to find a school that had a data science major. since that barely exists, i've been looking into other majors that sound near data science in subject, and it took me till now to realize that all data science is is statistics, just exclusively in excel. you mentioned regression models and anova tests and everything connected lmaoo. ive also been naturally good with math, so i think im gonna be pursuing that direction. your insight was a huge help bro thank you
