Yo! Hyped for this ep. Speaking from experience, I am 23 and was involved in a traumatic motorcycle accident (other persons fault) back in 2020. Your biggest fear on the road should be others. You MUST ride defensive because others are careless. I’m glad to see the Shoei in the background, I had a Shoei RF-1200 when I wrecked and I wouldn’t be here typing this if it wasn’t for that helmet. Love to see you getting into the beautiful sport of motorcycling, just be safe NiaC. Much love to both of you. 💚💚💚

Couldn’t like this more. I was cut off by someone and had to choose to hit their SUV or high side my bike. Wasn’t wearing sleeves, gloves or a helmet. Lucky all I ended up with was road rash, stitches and a broken nose.

Honestly, I rode a Kawasaki Ninja for almost 5 years and it’s the best thing I’ve done. It was therapeutic for me.
However, if a person isn’t going to take it seriously, I wouldn’t recommend it at all. In a metal cage (car, truck, suv, etc.), it’s a lot more forgiving. You’re in your own little bubble where you can control the temperature, the noise levels, you have windshield wipers, you can open and close windows, if you get hit by another vehicle, you have a frame that is meant to protect you, etc. On a motorcycle, it’s literally your body. YOU are exposed to everything. Heat, exhaust, rocks, littering, even turbulence from the vehicles around you all directly affect you. Weather directly affects you. Bugs smash into you. There are so many things to take into consideration when riding.
I would highly recommend the following things:
Get into the habit of doing your walk around. With how much you’re exposed, the smallest things can result in a huge consequence. Liquid levels, tire, brake, and wheel health, making sure all lights work, horn, wires, and hoses.
Spend the money on good tires.
Spend the money on good gear. And actually wear the gear. Helmet without question. Gloves without question. Pants without question. Boots without question.
No matter how hot it is outside, at LEAST wear a body armor of some sort. But riding jackets and riding pants with elbow and knee pads are saviors. The pain of road rash is second to only having a total loss accident and losing your motorcycle.
When learning to ride, as you’ve already noticed, everything past 1st gear is simple. So, practice first gear. Depending on who you talk to, there’s different names for this, but turn your bike on and shift into first gear and hold your clutch. Slowly release the clutch without any throttle until you feel the the bike STARTING to move forward. Listen to how the motor sounds and get used to how much your hand is releasing when you feel this switch. You should be able to walk with your bike without stalling out. Practicing this will ensure you don’t stall out when taking off And I highly recommend you practice this extensively on hills. At this sweet spot, you can start practicing throttle response and control so you know how and when to start releasing your clutch more and when to start throttling more. Also, when you’re shifting into higher gears, you know when your clutch bites so you can shift and accelerate more quickly and efficiently. When you get good, you’re able to balance your bike by just releasing your clutch and feathering your throttle.
Lastly, for now, when you want to turn, slow before your turn and accelerate after you’re 70%-ish through your turn. Have your bike on your exit angle before you start accelerating. At the beginning, don’t lean into your turns. If you want to turn right, press down on your right handlebar and when you want to turn left, press down on your left handlebar. Once you get more advanced, you’ll start feeling your bike and when to combine speed, counter steering, braking, body positions, and shifting to fly through turns!
Again, riding was therapeutic for me. Respect your bike and respect your life. Always ride with the thought that nobody cares about you and nobody else can see you. If you’re feeling off one day, like you shouldn’t ride, then don’t.
    And when in doubt?
    Throttle out!

Hey Nick, regarding your back pain, don't go get a scan. I'm a physical therapist and scans make us fear pain and catastrophise, yet scans can show nothing and we can still have pain. I'd recommend going to see a physical therapist instead. They will see how you move through various tests and guide your exercises to improve your symtpoms. This will be far more beneficial in the long run. Keep exercising gently and find a way to incorporate low intensity exercise whilst experiencing this pain, as this will help you mentally and physically. Hope that makes sense, great podcast as always!

If I can give Nick some advice as a rider of 6 years. You are always going to have those worries my friend they just arnt as bad the more you ride and learn your bike and learning how your bike works is the biggest thing, now when it come to your clutch and red lights in my personal opinion the best thing to do is when you are rolling up to the stoplight pull your clutch and shift it into Neutral and come to a stop (if you know the timing of the lights) just before the light is going to switch shift into first and then just ease into the throttle while slowly releasing the clutch and after that you should be fine. Turning can be a pain in the ass but if you ever have to do slow turns either because of traffic or whatever else what I do is pull the clutch in and ride the turn out once I’m straight I shift gears and go hopefully someone sees this and shows you or it gets to you cause this info helped me a lot as a new rider

Don’t know if you’ll see this ‘Niac but when your having to do like low speed turns try keeping pressure on your rear brake. Practice going slow and do like figure 8’s in empty parking lots until you feel more comfortable with it

    • @huntervlogs4657
      @huntervlogs4657 2 роки тому +2

This is solid advice as well, what I do I hold my clutch in so then that way I kill all power to the bike essentially and apply small amounts of rear brake until I straighten out and then shift gears

This isn't just for Nick: motorcycles are no joke. Asphalt is a cheese grader to skin. Jeans will last for 10 feet, leather about 100. If you slide and hit a guard rail, or God forbid those weird cable median dividers between freeways, it's possible to turn into human spaghetti. Depending on how you impact, you can, and likely will, literally have limbs torn off.
Contrary to popular belief, doing track riding is several times safer than riding on the street (no oncoming traffic, run off areas, perfect track surface, instructors, etc).
Do your homework. Get the gear. Full leather (jacket at minimum, with kevlar jeans). Ankle high boots. Gloves with palm and knuckle sliders. A Snell approved helmet, with a visor lock that will keep the visor close when you crash your brains out. That way you don't lose your eyes when you slide through gravel face first. And YOU NEVER, EVER, leave your fucking jacket in the closet because "iT'S tOo HoT oUtttt."

Hitch, you may have hyperhidrosis. I’ve had the same problem with my armpits since I was in high school. Tried all the fancy “#1 recommended” antiperspirants, and my doctor even put me on some sort of ulcer medication because a side effect was that it dries out your body. My whole body was dry BESIDES my armpits. It’s something I’ve just tried to accept and not be insecure about. I think there’s some sort or laser surgery that closes your sweat glands but I’ve seen it’s not good to close off your sweat glands.

Nick, I obviously don't know you personally nor do I know how much of yourself you present on camera but please at least hear me out. I think that getting a bike is not the right move for you. Ive had severe depression and anxiety since i can remember and im 23 yrs old now. So I can see things in others more easily when it comes to mental struggle. IN MY OPINION(not fact) you aren't interested in a Bike bc you've always liked bikes or love them as a machine that they are. You Want To Feel Alive. In your head the motorcycle will make you feel alive. Maybe there is even days where you arent sure anymore but you still try to convince yourself that it will. That its the next thing to do. And if youre like me you just feel like you live the same 24/7 lifestyle. No change up. Nothing new. And with socializing being not what it used to be due to Covid, nothing random really happens. You have to make it happen. So the Bike is you making it happen. But how long will that feeling last? Do you have the thought that after awhile you'll need something new? And the way that your friends respond about u getting a bike sounds like they are truly concerned about your wellbeing. They're not doubting your ability to learn or ride. They fear that maybe you'll abuse it trying to chase the feeling you want. Feelings come and go. And for people with severe mental disorders like me, the negative feelings stay and the positive ones i have to create. No good change comes from easy times. Change cannot happen without sacrifice. So to anyone reading this who is broken and it feels like everyday is a tough time. YOU ARE CHANGING. THE OPPROTUNITY IS AMONG YOU. CHANGE IS HAPPENING WETHER U WANT IT TO OR NOT. But you still have the full choice to choose how you change. For Bitter or Better. And i know how stupid i sound to someone who is lost and hopeless, BUT trust me friend there is hope. It is you. Everyday will be hard. It won't stop. Times will get harder. I still struggle with the thoughts everyday. But it is easier now for me to hear what i want at times too. Think about how strong that negative voice/thoughts are in your head. I know they can often be louder than what you'd say are your own thoughts. You can flip it. I know you can. Because im starting to. Your brain thinks obsessively in the wrong direction. It got that way because you kept thinking the same bad thoughts over and over so now at this point it is habitual for your brain to have this separate track of thinking. Which btw there is still value in bad thoughts. It can humble you and open your perspective up to see things from all angles. Also can help you become more understanding of feelings. But like i was saying you can make it think as hard as it does in a positive way. You have to think good things. you have to fight it all day everyday. Think about how long youve been like "this". It will take that long maybe longer. Could be shorter as well but im not saying its gonna be gone in a week. We are in a time where everything is instant. We want our fix now. All we have is time and we're constantly in a rush to do the next thing. Quick fixes/replacements are not long term solutions. Harden Yourself. Do you want to have rely on some sort of substance or experience everyday of your life? Im not speaking badly on meds either. I myself have been through all 8 dif antidepressants/Antianxiety meds. None of them worked FOR ME. Cannabis has been the biggest help FOR ME. FOR ME. Life is about balance. Finding YOUR balance. And im not saying what i think is your best. Im saying what you know is your best. Only you truly know the real you. What you want. What you need. Find your balance. And life shouldn't be happy all time time. Or content all the time. The change is what KEEPS US MOVING. Everybody has excuses about how much they can do. Which is fair, obstacles will vary from person to person BUT ask yourself. Are you treating your goals in life like dreams/hobbies? The life you want? Are you just working on it in your free time or are YOU LIVING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. It is a way of life. Not a hobby. Days will still hit where u are numb and dont want to do a thing but sleep. But thats when I rage on. All the times my mental has robbed me from living and experiencing parts of life i wanted has built up anger and frustration within me. I use that for good. RAGE ON AGAINST YOURSELF. Those thoughts are not you. It is a part of you. make peace with that, accept that. But know that is not all of you in entirety. Thoughts are just different fish swimming down the endless stream that is your conscious. Not all fish are worth catching. Sometimes the ugliest fish do taste the best and vice versa but I leave that to your judgement. Good means nothing without Bad. Nick if you get to read this you have so much potential man. You have a way of thinking that nobody in optic has. Live LIFE. Do what you want. Live how you know you need. How that lil voice in the back of your head calling you out on all your bullshit tells you need to live. Im sorry if I upset anyone with this, and maybe i missed so hard it could be insulative to Nick or others but that was not my intent. I have much love for all and hope you find what youre looking for.

Also you DONT slow down in the corner… you slow down before the corner then accelerate through the corner.. you just need to research driving a motorcycle and drive it locally a lot more….

Why not just have a tv in front of you with something like a Chromecast or Apple TV where you can sync your phone. One of you could just search something up right quick and play it through the TV anytime you need to.

Nick doesn't need an MRI at a doctor. Man needs to schedule an appointment with a chiropractor.
