Very impressive. You’ve introduced me to a whole new caliber/type of woodworking with this series. I had no idea this type of craftsmanship was still out there.
This has been my favorite YT project of all time. Your level of craftsmanship and attention to detail are superb. The finished results are stunning! Well done.
Look great Ollie. A lot of hard work but a fantastic result. Well done.
Lovely job. Something very therapeutic about oak framing and even better with you doing the videos.
Pendant lights will look both traditional and nice on the wider sections, and they will throw light both outward from under the roof, as well as illuminating under the roof. The disadvantage is that they would not fit well under the narrow section, so you would have to change to some other form of lighting.
Bulkhead lights on the inside of the beam could be made to look fairly good, but would look like they are from another period. The advantage is you could maintain consistency in the lighting fixtures from the wide section down onto the narrow section. You could also put in a larger number of fixtures without it looking crowded, so could get a more even and brighter light under the roof. The disadvantage is they will only light under the canopy, and only reflected spill off the brick wall will illuminate outside of the bulkhead.
An alternative to bulkhead lights along the beam would be wall sconce or carriage lamps on each of the support posts, or every other support post. This again will look traditional, can be carried through the whole structure, and will still provide some illumination outside the canopy.
Consider up lighting to show off the superb craftsmanship of this project
That is one grandiose porch. For lighting I would be tempted to put a half dozen or so venetian style glass&wire lamps, they have a matching vibe and the light has a sort of pattern to it, which would accentuate the structure.
Well done Ollie, you can turn your hand to anything !
Stunning project. First class work. Owners will be super happy
Really enjoyed this series. I hate to think what this cost - or rather I hate to think what the customer paid and then what it cost you! Massive amount of design, planning, equipment and of course skill on display here. Proper, proper job. Looks fantastic!
Wow. You are right to be proud of the work and finished product. Client should be chuffed.
Absolute masterclass of workmanship. Looking forward to the next video. Cheers Ollie. 🍻
I think there are a few good UK carpentry channels on youtube...... but imo this one is the most impressive ..... & congratulations for this fabulous project
Fantastic, beautiful workmanship you should be well proud.
Dude, if I were a millionaire, YOU are the carpenter I would hire to build for me. You rock!
Outstanding mate. It's been a privilege to follow this build.
Client must be well pleased with all that work👏
thanks for sharing Ollie, it looks absolutely fantastic and the quality of workmanship is something to be proud of mate.
Your customer must be made up with what you have given them.
I still say it looks like a Cloisters.. which in my opinion is fantastic
Well done Ollie - it’s a great result, hopefully gets a lot of bespoke work in for you 👍
Time to put your feet up and pat yourself black and blue on the back. This has been a most inspiring (and mind-bending!) project and you've kept it interesting and your filming / editing has been great too. But the true star of all this is whoever spent an entire long day double hand sanding all those boards. Bet they were spaegie the next day after all that!
Lovely job !!!!! well done
Hi Ollie, hope you're well. Awesome work, as usual. Definitely a case of carpentry taken to high art. Thoroughly enjoyed watching you doing your magic. Well done. Looking forward to seeing the photos. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep up the good work.
Fantastic job, been so good to watch. Whatever you charged wasn't enough. Thanks for letting us see the whole process .
Great work, only comment, we built an oak frame floor in our old house, we painted the boards before laying so any shrinkage there be no unpainted wood showing, it might of been a good idea to treat the oak boarding before you laid it. Plus easier to paint.
What a Beautiful job, your a true craftsman indeed.
Excellent job. That wonderful feeling when it all comes together!
I‘m amazed by the top class work you are able to carry out working mainly on your own. 👏
I'm in awe of the whole project. You've done a fantastic job and I'm sure you are well proud of yourself.
Keep up the great work 😊😊
Totally cool structure. Just love the quality of the work and the end product.
A masterpiece.👍📐🇨🇦
Been a fantastic watch this series, looking forward to seeing more from a very skilled craftsman.
A True professional. Nice to see.
Up and down lights on the masonry in my opinion. This would illuminate the oak structure, whereas pendant lights would not, which would be a shame.
EXCELLENT Work Mate, looking great have a nice day All. !!!.
Top job! I want to try using green oak for a roofed garden swing in the near future.
the detail on this is just exceptional but you already know that , when this weathers through the years it will just age with beauty
Lovely job Ollie, the end result is stunning mate
Lovely. Get the invoice in! 👍🏻
Very, very, nice!
Its reassuring to know there are still craftsmen out there who are fully invested in what they do.
That is lovely Ollie...look forward to seeing the door build.
Excellent work - as always
Beautiful work as usual Ollie, looking forward to the next project 👏👏
Beautiful work, in New Zealand we have very limited access to native timber and not much access to what to us are "exotic" timbers like oak. Even radiata pine is extremely expensive. I love watching your channel an love seeing your methods and finished product.
Looks amazing.
Top job Ollie, looks the part 😍👏
Brilliant job. Looking forward to the next one 🌞
Nice and tidy work
Congrats ! Amazing work !
Your channel is "brilliant" as you guys from the UK would say. Found your channel the other day and have been binging on it since. Great workmanship and filming. Love the little tune at the end by the subscribe button. Cheers Mate!
Great work! I really enjoy your videos and your tips and tricks along the way! Huge inspiration to me!
Don’t sand it to get the black marks out. You should oxalic acid wash it ( made from rhubarb leaves ) then wash it down with water. All the oak will return to the golden straw colour naturally as it dries.
Then once the water has dried off give it two coats of clear teak oil and let it weather to its natural colour.
The oak in the large sections will dry out at the rate of about one inch per year from each side, so a six inch beam will take about three years to dry out / season properly. If you osmo oil it whilst it’s still green you will trap the water inside the beam and as it will try and escape it will lift the osmo finish and will look dreadful.
Honestly, do not put a ‘sealing’ finish on green oak, you will regret it.
Sharp result .
That’s an expensive and impressive roof we’ll done
Love it!
that is a superb piece of work, it looks amazing, can't wait for the front door videos
Nice work as usual.👍
I've really enjoyed accompanying you on this journey Ollie. You're a very skilled carpenter from the old school, but I also enjoy your ingenuity as you encounter and then resolve problems. As long as you keep posting I'll keep watching! Thank you.
Absolutely fabulous work Ollie! It looks as though it grew there! Like you say, it’s up to the customer what sort of lighting to have but personally I’d like to see lighting hidden in the angle between the frame and the roof. Looking forward to the next video!
Such a great job quality all the way very impressive 👍
Well done
I have watched all episodes of your project and I wanted to say how much I enjoyed them. The quality speaks for itself and you should be proud of what you have accomplished. I am looking forward to seeing more videos. Cheers. Jim
Bradshaw Joinery, I have followes this project every episode. As a carpenter living in a small village in the mountains, Ojén, I have really enjoyed the whole journey. I only wish I had green oak to work with. The climate here is difficult. But ypur work is fantastic❤
great work.
Great work, it looks amazing!
Nice work
Amazing
Cheers bud, you are on it!!
Looks great. Love to see it with roof, lights, flooring and the rest.
Top job mate ,👍👍
Looks bloody awesome well done mate ,what a talent you are .we need more content from you please , a skill lime yours should never be hidden keep up the good work 👏
Absolutely amazing level of skill, thoroughly enjoyed each and every video, and looking forward to everything you bring us in the future.
Hats off 👏
Great job! uplighters at the base of each post to illuminate the inside
I really want to see the video on the molding and the door!!! thanks
Absolutely fantastic 👌
Fantastic job.
Always have the light source bouncing off a surface. You should never see the light source directly.
Being a retired carpenter I am intrigued as to how you priced this project. My experience of working with oak is that it always takes about double the time of working with softwood. What was the budget for this? I have really enjoyed watching the progress and execution of the work you have done. Excellent!
Top class work Olly.👍
Magnificent!
up lighting hidden by the horizontal beams
Great series Ollie. Hope you made some money on that or do you think you underestimated the amount of work and detail?
Look at that double handed sanding machine! Ha Ha the roofer had you do all the crap work. looks really nice. how many hours from start to finish do you think it took? Shame about that soil stack by that front door 😔
Really nice high class job - well done, ............. a nagging thought - what on earth has it cost?
It looks stunning. Loads of hard work, well done.
I have a question. Why is the valley not set centre of the corner posts with the valley rafters meeting each other? Did you want to keep the soffit the same dimension but you had two different pitches?
As much as i've enjoyed the videos, you've had your fun with the green oak framing, get back to those sash windows, I'm sure you'd much rather be in the workshop in the winter than clambering about on top of frames.😅
👊🫡
Eveybody wants to know the cost!
25k
@@Goodwithwood69 I was thinking more like £30k
Would a hard one to price!
Great job!
