- Part 4 of the Polar Lights 1:1000 scale U.S.S Enterprise build. This is a five part series (with one bonus part) for the "Production Version" of this excellent kit. This video focuses on the techniques used for the tan arc found on the top front section of the primary hull as well as all the other weathering effects found in all areas of the ship--including the "engine soot", "green algae" and "space rust" evident on the original 11 foot studio model.

Really good series. I'm following a long. Can I ask how did you cut the tape mask for this?
Hi John,
I'm glad to hear you are building along! I'm assuming you are talking about the dome tape masks? If so I give some detail in the following highlighted comments:

Hope these help!
Take care.
What type is the white mask tape? I'm working on this kit right now and these videos are a great help! Thanks very much in advance..
Hi John, I’m glad to hear the videos have been helpful! The white tape I used is Tamiya Masking Tape for Curves. I have both 3 and 5mm rolls depending on the tightness of the curve. Item# 87178 - 460 and 87179 - 460. All the best on your build :)
I'll make use of those tapes indeed! What chalks are you using for the weathering effects? I have some artists pencils I was going to grind down for the various Green algae and such. I've been out of model making for a few years and I'm kinda re-learning some techniques I've lost. LL&P..@@ArcticModeler
Hi John. Sorry I missed your followup question initially. I used a custom mix of soft chalk pastels (ground with a nail file) found here:
