    Thanks for reading the ecstasy that Bernini used makes it all so much more beautiful allowing us to access st Teresa’s divine
    Revelation that as a true Catholic I need more!

    If this sculpture of Santa Teresa is divine love; then I know all about it! I have seen this sculpture in Italy and have visited St. Teresa’s relics in Spain. It is truly a religious experience. Superb work of art.

    The voice of Beth Harris reading Saint Teresa`s religious experience and the whole description of this building is in perfect harmony with the purpose of the chapel: the reunion of opposites. Maybe Saint Teresa`s voice was like Dr. Harris`s voice. Dr. Zucker completes this perfect meeting of Earth and Heaven, the mystery of coniunctio. Thanks to both for this great video.

    We recorded this in Santa Maria della Vittoria, which is, of course, the church in Rome that contains the Cornaro chapel and the St. Teresa sculpture.

    Wow! Thanks for this video! I'm going to Rome this summer and am specifically looking forward to seeing this sculpture. I knew he arranged it dramatically, but I had not yet seen exactly how much (the figures on the sides, the two windows shining the light down onto the scene, etc). It's absolutely phenomenal.
    I like how you referred to it as an "installation," because installation art is popular today. Yet no one can make an installation quite like this anymore! :)

    This means everything to me, it's so beautiful, captivating, awe-inspiring, exhilarating...
    And even better, it's so very real! The love of God is more real than we can ever fathom or comprehend! Look at the statue while playing Auld Lang Syne by Patrick Ball or by Pure Bagpipe Magic, you'll thank me later.
    God bless you all!

    OMG I never realized there was an audience created by Bernini too -- and they look very discerning and rather skeptical rather than caught up in this moment. I'm so blown away by this I don't even know what to make of it. Now it looks like a performance or at least a very public event which is not at all as she describes it. I have to say I fond this whole thing shocking and I will definitely research this. Wow!

    the vision very sensual, would even say carnal . "Pain so severe uttered several moans, sweetness caused by this intense pain so extreme that one cannot possibly wish to cease.

    • @ralphmudeke3343
      @ralphmudeke3343 6 років тому +3

      Michel Hachem makes sense because god is the source of all life and carnal actions are meant to create life...

    • @mrgrork
      @mrgrork 5 років тому +11

      But the carnal is a warped version of God’s love. While humanity engages God through exploration of sensuality, we may be said to devolve into a bestial state through lustful behavior. This is a distinction made in Medieval theology, esp. by Dante, whereby the sins of incontinence contrast heavenly love. Saint Teresa’s writing seems overtly sexual, but this does not necessarily make it carnal. Her gaze never shifts from the heavens; her whole body becomes engulfed in the hightened state of passion of the soul.

    • @janel342
      @janel342 4 роки тому +2

      It’s meant to be disturbing. It’s a transcendental experience being described in marble- it shocks us out of our every day selves. Which is what the spiritual does.

    • @proarte4081
      @proarte4081 4 роки тому +4

      He is not a child , he is an angel. However in the Western sculptural tradition, this angel with the arrow , vaguely resembles the ancient God Eros ... this is part of the ambiguity of this sculpture, it is a representation of a religious ecstasy (i.e. St. Teresa with an angel) which alludes to an ecstasy of a woman in front of Eros ... ambiguity was typical of the Baroque aesthetic.
