I've noticed a lot of people warm up to him lately. He's got a brilliance that's hard to argue with. And altough some people fail to see the charm in his bluntness, most people can see the honesty in his approach. There is no political correctness, nor any pschycological mind games from his side. Plus, he is totally unfazed by those games when confronted with them. He just does all the talking on track. And what a story he is telling.
Those kinds of epithets come from the mind of a child, like a tRumper. Max is an amazing driver, no doubt, but he doesn't have all the stats to prove he is the "best driver in history". When/If he achieves the best ever records, I will be the first to applaud, but he is not even close...yet.

I would not call it the truth, rather 'bluntness' or unvarnished opinion. Max gives his opinion as he sees it. My or your opinion (or if you like, perspective on the truth) might be different. I am Dutch and can imagine that the direct, straightforward attitude, which Dutch people seem to be known for, is not for everyone. It works for me, but it can come across as unsensitive and arrogant, even when it is not meant that way. If both parties are ok with it then it makes for a great working relationship, because both sides do not feel any hesitation to give input, suggestions, or correct you instantly when they think you are wrong. On the other hand, if one is not used to this way of communication it can really cause tension in a working relationship.

Martin was the first commentator (that I know of) who spotted Max's incredible talent from the get go. I think that Martin has a soft spot for Max (as a driver) and Max has a soft spot for Martin, as a commentator. I think they have had a very good relationship and respect throughout the years, so I am am not surprised that Max stopped and had a chat with Martin. That Martin came out, afterward with his opinion about Max, just shows the admiration he has for Max as an F1 driver, and as a person to talk to. The fact that he has to apologise in advance for his opinion, says a lot about the British F1 fan base that he, as a Sky Sports reporter, has to "please". I was lucky enough to be in Spa this year. Well the weather wasn’t great but in general F1 is always fantastic. What caught me by surprise, and I’m Dutch, was the large amount of British supporters for Max. I’ve been critical of British media and British fans in general of how they portray and react to Max. It was quite a surprise to see how many British fans there were supporting him. All the fan gear. Brundle is just stating his opinion and good on him. Max Verstappen, love him or loathe him, is an F1 phenomenon. He’s the absolute face of the current F1 era. If there’s one thing that stands out with him is his straightforward attitude. What you see is what you get. He’ll never go down as a person trying to be someone he’s not. Max will always be Max. Just one of the best drivers to have ever graced the sport.
Of course most people dislike Max. He's an honest straightforward guy and extremely successful in achieving his life's goals. Then remember that 99% of the people criticising him live a life of gut wrenching mediocrity.

Difference is that today great performance is punished. Once by reduced aero and CFD times and second by the ridiculous superlicense points cost. That did not happen back in the days. And I think it's total bollocks because when you do a good job at developing your car, you shouldn't be penalized.
where as i see where your coming from (seriously i do) been watching since 1995...I think thats all to do with the change of times in general...Aero didnt really matter as much as it does now back when i started watching...ground effect was still in its early stages back then you had not only multiple engine suppliers (more then today) but we also had way more different types of ENGINES....like in 1995 as an example... You had teams with V12's (Ferrari) teams with V10's (Mclaren, Jordan,Williams.Tyrrell just to name a few) and some teams couldnt fit V10's or afford them in some cases so had to settle with V8's (Minardi,Pacific,Forti Corse,Simtek) Back then the punishment of loss of tunnel time would of made no difference i think to any team...Now it is a setback... As for devloping their car and being punished for it..they went over the cost cap. it is a breech of rules and were punished accordingly...I personally think the cost cap is a load of shit myself...

Ex drivers make the best commentators, when incidents happen on track they know how the drivers will be feeling in the moment because they've had it happen to themselves.

I fully agree with the first part but the fact anywhere Newey goes, the championships follow is a testament to his abilities! (Max fan speaking, but Newey is equally impressive as Max is)
Always remember that people completely ignore how dominant that Mercedes was. Between 2014 and 2016 it lost three races and that’s it but that’s okay because we’ve completely made up that Mercedes is one of our teams while still saying that Alpine, something like 10 miles down the road, is still a French team (which it is)
I don't think people realise the difference in power with that mercedes engine, about 80-100hp over the rest of the field, the running joke through the prime years was how low can we turn the engine down and still win so yeah its the car AND the driver, Lewis is one of the greats and now Max is there with them
Our language (Dutch) most certainly offers lots of possibilities to speak eloquently and elegantly. It is our nature, culture, mindset to be more straight to the point, rather than circling around the "hot" topic.
If the car is the quickest, Max never hesitate to give it the credit by telling u he has the quickest car. The reverse is also true, when he tells u the car is bad, it really is bad. He never takes credit from the car nor unfairly blame his mistakes on to the car.
Max is a true champion and worthy role-model for the younger generation. Speaks his mind at all times, no time at all for underhanded or back-handed comments.
Max seems like a good guy outside the car, when it comes to racing he can sometimes be pretty rude and hypocritical, probably his dad traumatising him as a kid as a result, but outside the car he seems calm

I kind of agree with him. Haven't been a max fan during his career, but the more he matures, the more I love hearing what he says. He tells it like it is, and now he usually does it with some wittiness and humor, earlier in his career I guess it came across differently to me. I'm not a red bull fan, but Max's personality is making him one of my favorite drivers. Being booed in Austin 'well I hope they all go home and have a lovely dinner' 😂😂😂 (or something to that effect)

Honesty is honestly hugely underrated, and the people that recognize its value are also very frequently fond of Max. And only when you've dealt with immense dishonest people will you know. Even for something small as drinking a beer with someone it's just that important. I am a huge fan of Max, not only because I am half-Dutch but also because I love it when someone challenges the dominance in a sport. If I had a choice though, to grab a beer with Martin or Max, I'd choose Martin without hesitation. I've noticed a lot of people warm up to him lately. He's got a brilliance that's hard to argue with. And altough some people fail to see the charm in his bluntness, most people can see the honesty in his approach. There is no political correctness, nor any pschycological mind games from his side. Plus, he is totally unfazed by those games when confronted with them. He just does all the talking on track. And what a story he is telling.

You can clearly see this on the onboard that was also available to Brundle, an ex-driver that should've seen the same thing as we all did and understand that is what happened.

I would not call it the truth, rather 'bluntness' or unvarnished opinion. Max gives his opinion as he sees it. My or your opinion (or if you like, perspective on the truth) might be different. I am Dutch and can imagine that the direct, straightforward attitude, which Dutch people seem to be known for, is not for everyone. It works for me, but it can come across as unsensitive and arrogant, even when it is not meant that way. If both parties are ok with it then it makes for a great working relationship, because both sides do not feel any hesitation to give input, suggestions, or correct you instantly when they think you are wrong. On the other hand, if one is not used to this way of communication it can really cause tension in a working relationship.

Martin was the first commentator (that I know of) who spotted Max's incredible talent from the get go. I think that Martin has a soft spot for Max (as a driver) and Max has a soft spot for Martin, as a commentator. I think they have had a very good relationship and respect throughout the years, so I am am not surprised that Max stopped and had a chat with Martin.
That Martin came out, afterward with his opinion about Max, just shows the admiration he has for Max as an F1 driver, and as a person to talk to. The fact that he has to apologise in advance for his opinion, says a lot about the British F1 fan base that he, as a Sky Sports reporter, has to "please". I was lucky enough to be in Spa this year. Well the weather wasn’t great but in general F1 is always fantastic. What caught me by surprise, and I’m Dutch, was the large amount of British supporters for Max. I’ve been critical of British media and British fans in general of how they portray and react to Max. It was quite a surprise to see how many British fans there were supporting him. All the fan gear.
Brundle is just stating his opinion and good on him. Max Verstappen, love him or loathe him, is an F1 phenomenon. He’s the absolute face of the current F1 era. If there’s one thing that stands out with him is his straightforward attitude. What you see is what you get. He’ll never go down as a person trying to be someone he’s not. Max will always be Max. Just one of the best drivers to have ever graced the sport.
Of course most people dislike Max. He's an honest straightforward guy and extremely successful in achieving his life's goals. Then remember that 99% of the people criticising him live a life of gut wrenching mediocrity.

I’m still amazed that Brundle and Sky F1 find it so hard to praise Max and what he has accomplished. They can’t say anything good about him, without first qualifying it with what they really think. Yet they bend over for a German team???

I dont hate max...or lewis...i find the fanboys of each to be the annoying ones..they are both exceptionally talent'd and will both be remember'd as titans of the sport. Difference is that today great performance is punished. Once by reduced aero and CFD times and second by the ridiculous superlicense points cost. That did not happen back in the days. And I think it's total bollocks because when you do a good job at developing your car, you shouldn't be penalized.
where as i see where your coming from (seriously i do) been watching since 1995...I think thats all to do with the change of times in general...Aero didnt really matter as much as it does now back when i started watching...ground effect was still in its early stages back then you had not only multiple engine suppliers (more then today) but we also had way more different types of ENGINES....like in 1995 as an example...
You had teams with V12's (Ferrari)
teams with V10's (Mclaren, Jordan,Williams.Tyrrell just to name a few)
and some teams couldnt fit V10's or afford them in some cases
so had to settle with V8's (Minardi,Pacific,Forti Corse,Simtek)
Back then the punishment of loss of tunnel time would of made no difference i think to any team...Now it is a setback...
As for devloping their car and being punished for it..they went over the cost cap. it is a breech of rules and were punished accordingly...I personally think the cost cap is a load of shit myself...

When Hamilton was winning with only Bottas for competition it was great when Max could take him on, but he also had Rosberg for some years which was a battle. Now Max has no teammate yet again that can compete, and anyone will do - Norris or otherwise. And please don't refer to me as 'kid', I'm 43 years young.

Ex drivers make the best commentators, when incidents happen on track they know how the drivers will be feeling in the moment because they've had it happen to themselves.

A little biased? The whole SKY team was very biased especially when it came to Verstappen, he couldn't do much good in their eyes... fortunately they changed the narrative during the 2022 season and now have been mostly praising Verstappen.

Neither Crofty nor Brundle, Jenson, etc hate Max at all, they’re sometimes a little biased because they’re British but that’s understandable. Dutch TV do the same with Max. Bias towards your own drivers is fair game.
Max made few mistakes and won over and over.. simple as that. Other drivers had the lead and crashed, I wont name names...
British always tries to avoid giving credits to max.. where they always gave full credit to hamilton "another master class by lewis". Since Max or Alonso, its "look at how dominant the car is"' another "design miracle from newey" whilst its actually a fun fact that Wache and his team who is the lead designer, not Newey. They constantly repeat Newey and Milton Keynes.
I fully agree with the first part but the fact anywhere Newey goes, the championships follow is a testament to his abilities! (Max fan speaking, but Newey is equally impressive as Max is)
Always remember that people completely ignore how dominant that Mercedes was. Between 2014 and 2016 it lost three races and that’s it but that’s okay because we’ve completely made up that Mercedes is one of our teams while still saying that Alpine, something like 10 miles down the road, is still a French team (which it is)
I don't think people realise the difference in power with that mercedes engine, about 80-100hp over the rest of the field, the running joke through the prime years was how low can we turn the engine down and still win so yeah its the car AND the driver, Lewis is one of the greats and now Max is there with them

If the car is the quickest, Max never hesitate to give it the credit by telling u he has the quickest car. The reverse is also true, when he tells u the car is bad, it really is bad. He never takes credit from the car nor unfairly blame his mistakes on to the car.

I kind of agree with him. Haven't been a max fan during his career, but the more he matures, the more I love hearing what he says.
He tells it like it is, and now he usually does it with some wittiness and humor, earlier in his career I guess it came across differently to me.
I'm not a red bull fan, but Max's personality is making him one of my favorite drivers.

I don't think you can blame him for his early behavior. He won his first F1 GP on his first day with RB at 18 years old! Of course he was going to be a maverick until he matured.
And thats just it. Max came in as a CHILD. His maturation given his circumstances is incredible.
Max has grown a lot over the years. Hearing him speak, it’s sometimes easy to overlook how young he still is
Much as I dislike this (and other) periods of dominance, I like Max as a guy. I’d rather a hotly contested championship but often F1 isn’t like that.
Honesty is honestly hugely underrated, and the people that recognize its value are also very frequently fond of Max. And only when you've dealt with immense dishonest people will you know. Even for something small as drinking a beer with someone it's just that important. And Martin himself is also someone who isn't afraid to speak his mind, and has a pretty good record of calling things through all his experience.
Very interesting, wouldn't have expected to hear that about Max from Brundle.

Max had fixed everything I disliked about his actions by the winter 2021/2022. Fully happy with his in-car and out-of-car behaviour in 2022-2023.
But team LH keeps crying about the ''dangerous'' driving Max does while Lewis is crashing big time with team mates and old team mates...Lewis got his chance in those 7 times he got world champ, Max destroyed 20 records like it's nothing, this wil be remembered, that's why Prost is always my choice above Lewis...Winning is not all, how you win in what margin, consistency...Max did not leave any crumbs to pick up for other driver except for Singapore...How you think Max won races in a 3rd best car, being consistent as f*ck...Picking up wins that should have go to Mercedes or Ferrari...If Max has another good run in 2024 all the haters will learn Max is no mediocre driver.

I love honesty period. And when it happens with athletes I gravitate towards them. I mean sure he gets pissed on the radio (not really much in the past few years) but they all do. They are all driving on their absolute edge and want to win. I’ve never thought anything bad about Max. They all interview well, and to be one of only 20 F1 drivers in the world they can act however they want!
The best part of pre race is Martin doing the grid walk.
