I had a lot of fun with grasp of darkness in yesterday's FNM historic artisan event (dimir control, wincon: a combination of nightveil predator and Ill-Gotten Inheritance). nice deck yet again. btw: this pains me a bit to say, but, at the moment, I am watching more CGB videos than mtg-original-decks/Qwazar77 uploads and this is saying a LOT. I am a long-time Patreon of qwazar-senpai and I value entertainment more than skillful plays, but lately, CGB seemingly has found the PERFECT balance between both. Chapeau!
I'm in a similar boat as you. I used to watch a lot of Qwazar-senpai, but now I only watch him if I'm specifically looking for table slams, bad plays, and hilariously janky decks. CGB won me over.

I mean, he basically stopped hitting table-kun over night for example (really obvious that one) and he is constantly rotating catchphrases, so much so, that he completely changes the way he talks every month or so. but the thing that hurt his "style" the most would be quitting his daytime-job, because that was the number 1 source for all the hilarious stories he used to tell while playing. After quitting, he slowly ran out of material to talk about, until all he could do was complain about magic and wizards as a whole. It got even worse after he started to "edit" (if you can call it that ^^). He still hits a home run in his videos from time to time, but his content gets more generic every day sadly :/ Phew i really wanted to tell this to someone who might care for a while now, maybe i should get a life instead :D All the while CGB hits a new height every day it seems. There was a time when i didn't think he could actually smile or just have a good time for once, but he has really grown as a YT creator. And instead of just changing, he kept what was already good and added a whole lot of personality, flair and humor. Not to mention expanding to other arena-based content besides ranked BO1. CGB should get an award for his dedication to his fans and his channel. He genuinely cares for his community. You can tell by all the effort he puts into this. He grinds harder than any other streamer. No one else in the game plays a new deck every single day. I really believe he’s the best at what he does.
I’m curious about the first game: the Necrotic Fumes exiling the Anax before the pest could be Stomped. What exactly is the timing rules that allow for you to get it off without a response? Just curious, want to better understand!
You create the 1/1 and learn at the same time, your opponent can't respond to your spell by stomping the 1/1 as i'ts not created yet. Then you get Necrotic fumes in your hand but as your opponent passed priority, if you don't switch between phases they can't respond until your next action (the only respond they could have done was stomping your face in response of you learning). You cast Necrotic fumes and in order to pay for the spell you have to sacrifice the pest token. They can now respond by stomping whatever they want but not the token as it's already gone.
You're 100% right about the ladder, CGB. I have a friend that got to mythic in his very first two seasons. He was playing a WU random deck with like 75 cards. As soon as he finished his first meta deck he never got past gold again and he quit playing lmao.
CGB vs. mill rogues: barely plays anything, doesn't counter stuff, scoops in the end. Me when I play against mill rogues: turn 1 crab, turn 2 crab, fabled passage, drown in the loch against anything I cast, maddening cacophony with kicker.

I downloaded the game at the end of Kaldheim, and can build mostly competitive decks, but am missing some of the better cards. I have made mythic the last two rounds but once I’m there I struggle.

Another build idea for you. A Narset build. Jeskai. I was drafting Lorehold yesterday and was impressed by rip apart. Very very useful bit of removal. So...Jeskai control. 4 rip apart, 4 Prismari Command, and i guess a lot of the regular stuff you've shown us in jeskai already. I guess the main difference is this will be an Instant/sorc heavier control build and can do Spellbooks.
I guess I should add after seeing your rogue game that I have have Eyetwitch to learn instead of pest summoning and Sedgemoore to get pests and Plumb to get even more pests and cards. I also added 1 Nightmare and 1 Clackbridge troll just in case I really need to hit their life total. Other than that I was surprised how similar my mono black deck is.
Tell people this about Spell Satchel: You must manually tap it for mana. MTGA literally never prioritizes it for use. It will choose to use all your colored mana first. Just something to think about.
@@ixchel3330 Generally CGB agrees with you. I noticed from his style he opted to save counters for the slow draw when he could. But the ramp is there for a purpose. To be honest I feel CGB over-valued saving them. He had 2 books with counters on them and a sciences. He opted to pay the swamps for it instead of just taking the free sciences - even though those counters would have been instantly replaced. Using it ONLY for draw, IMO, makes it a worse mazemind tome. The multi utility is what you want.
@@darreldorigatti862 Yeah, it's primarily ramp, but the draw is nice and it only gets a counter for instants and scorcerys. So spending the counters on say enchantments or creatures can get mess you up.
About that rogue scoop: Given they were having delay between actions, a good guess would be real life got to them before they could end that game.

It's a pain for sure. Making mistakes is how you learn though.
I think arena not using the satchel is good given it has counters and the draw ability that you might want to use.
