FAQ:
Q: Can I send you a deck to check out?
A: Only patrons can send me decks and expect a reply, because I get too many of these requests to manage. Consider joining the discord (links above) and posting your decks in the #decks channel for community feedback.
Q: Why didn’t you play this certain card I would play?
A: Because I don’t think it is as good as every other card in the deck.
Q: Why did you make that play at time stamp XX:XX?
A: I usually talk through my plays, so watch again and see if I mention it (I often do, sometimes during the turn after the play to keep the video moving). If I don’t mention it at all, I may have missed it. I miss plays several times a day, and so do other players.
Q: How can I support the channel?
A: Watching the videos IS supporting the channel. There are many options above if you have extra money and would like to help more. I appreciate it, I have a lot of bills and life stuff to manage, but it is not required. Take care of yourself first, watch the videos, then give other financial support if you really want to.
Q: Will you play janky deck xyz?
A: My mission is to show people decks that they can play often, win games with, and feel successful with. I don’t enjoy decks that strive to achieve an interaction but rarely win (aka, janky decks). There are many successful jank players on UA-cam, and you should check out their channels. I am competitive, I like winning, and I like helping others win and feel successful. That is why you won’t see janky combo decks on the channel very often.
Q: Do you show all your games, or do you edit out your losses?
A: I don’t show all my games. The video is usually the best moments of between one and three hours of recording. I remove games for a number of reasons, both wins and losses. Some games are slow, some aren’t competitive because of lands, some are the same matchup over and over. More losses get cut out than wins because winning is more fun for me, which makes for better content for most viewers. It can be disappointing for those who want to see me lose (yes, people watch just to see me lose, I see you!).
Q: If you edit out some of your losses, how do I know if a deck is good and worth crafting?
A: If you watch the entire video, I always give my honest opinion about the deck at the end. As always, you are welcome to draw your own conclusions. My goal is to show off a variety of decks that can get a player with skill and conviction into Mythic, and I want them to have fun doing it. I almost never show a video of a deck that I don’t believe in, and if I don’t like a deck after playing it, I guarantee you will know about it if you watch the whole video and listen to what I have to say.

The fact that an Emergent Ultimatum deck is meta right now brings me no small amount of joy.
I noticed and got a warm fuzzy feeling
It reminds me of tooth and nail decks
@@ShredPenguins yep, queue up against it 3 or 4 times in a row.
unrelated but what is the member thing next to your username? Never seen it before
@@SaevusFlorus It's the Magic: The Gathering symbol! It changes color depending on how long you've been a UA-cam member for CGB's channel. I"ve been one for 2 months so mine is silver for now.
48:20 I’ve been playing this game for so long I forgot that “duress” is just an actual word and not only a magic card
I taught my daughter the word "prowess" today: when you play an instant or sorcery... sorry, skill...it just means skill.
CGB casts Emergent Ultimatum: Choose from among these 3 options
Opponent: I choose 4. SCOOP
I'm surprised they stayed after the first cast.
We need the official mono-red song before Eldraine rotates
ua-cam.com/video/s5rzbttiMxA/v-deo.html
All we need now is to have CGB do some more lyrics :D
Lol Embercleaving monored was perfection. 11/10
beating the oponent with his own stuff is the most satisfying thing about this deck :)
Haaaah - finally got my Kaldheim Stuff delivered (a lot of snow during the last week in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany and yeah the City I live in is basically Texas in a Nutshell - two centimeters of snow and nothing goes) , opened the boosters and thought to myself "Uhm, nice!"
And now this :)
I have all the cards in paper for this deck - so with a vicous smile I picked the most obnoxious Pink Card Sleeves I have and happly sleeving those cards while enjoying this video
feeling this had the same issues in north rhine-westphalia, but the pulls were insane
Wait til you look at all those lands in the packs. There's just snow everywhere these days!
I really like when CGB plays these kind of decks. They are tangentially controlly, yet they have a cool payoff and some nice field interaction.
I've found having elder gargaroth as a 1 or 2 of is very useful for searching up against aggro decks, especially since the deck doesn't really have any life gain otherwise, which can be a problem if you are within stomp range of lethal. Also vorinclex is very bad in the main deck, searching it up with tibalt doesn't really work since the opponent can just give you alrund's + vorinclex, which gives you a lot of aggression but no card advantage, which might not be a problem if this wasn't a control deck. Because it is a control deck the opponent is usually at 20 life even at turn 7, which means that the 14 damage you can get in with the vorinclex + alrund's isn't lethal and can basically be answered by heartless act, which is not what you want your seven mana sorcery to be. However it's actually amazing post - sideboard in the mirror match, since after boarding out heartless act the deck pretty much has zero answers, given that its removal at that point consists of sagas and planeswalkers, which don't work against vorinclex. I've already won one very funny game where I played turn five vorinclex and simply beat face for the next four turns while my opponent dug for answers they didn't have.
nice idea, I'll give it a try.
I learned the hard way that problem with vorinclex. But I think alrund is also not very good, so I cut 1 from my list, tibalt, vorinclex and seagate is often the choice that I gi e to my opponent now.
some shark typhoon can also be pretty good in most matchups.
"What a Loser" HAHA! LOVE the honesty about the Rogues player
@@treycuret nah rogues suck lmao
@@treycuret well he's probably more a loser because scooping after 1/5 spells got not countered, but anyway: rogues suck!
Trey i get that the deck takes a little thought to pilot but I'm pre internet kind of old school and really don't get at all hyped copying a deck others crafted, would rather take my knocks but work at putting my own ideas to work for me. I KNOW that's just not how it works anymore for most but it is for me. ✌ man and have FUN, however you may go about doing so. ;)
How about better sportsmanship.
Liam, outta the guy who quit or CGB? Guessing the rogue player. :)
Thanks for communicating your train of thought in these. It's helped improve my game tremendously. Preciate ya
19:15 I am always impressed with the way CGB can read random opponents in the ladder so perfectly!
27:40 nastiest Embercleave ever! :)
I'm so happy to see the meta being anything non-aggro
All the decks that have won recent tourneys are either Mono Red or Mono White aggro unfortunately 😔
this is like the only control deck in the meta dude lmao
Emergent ultimatum into nexus is not necessarily healthy meta
@@DMALMAD neither is all aggro
@@RaimonTarou And it loses immediately to rogues, mono red, or mono white if your hand isn't full of removal.
Oh I've been looking forward to this episode since Koma Kai Sultai High
Last time I was this early, Sultai was just Simic Ramp with some extra thicc removal
Lmao Uro go brrrrrrrrrrr
@@nickniehaus1763 No!!! You can't print a one-card value engine so strong it would be banned in almost every format in less than a year
Beating the lantern deck to death with it's own lantern... forcing them to sacrifice their own Ugin... them running disenchant... I wonder if I'll ever see a game like this on MTGA again!
At 98% mythic no less!
the ugin guy did a mistake not removing both wolf with ugin otherwise he would still have ugin and probably won
Finally got to mythic last night 🙌🏻 surprisingly it was your mono green snow deck that got me there from plat 2 lol long ass grind
It doesn’t matter what side of politics you’re on, I think we can all agree that “what a loser” comment to the first player who scooped using rogues was well deserved.
Well I think this deck is absolutely disgusting so I have to disagree. I rather play vs rogues that this shit.
I don't mind playing against rogues, but the comment had me rollin.
@@Afwasmiddel2142 🧂
Why, though? The roping/emoting people is one thing, but this opponent simply used the spells they had and then scooped when the game was effectively over.
@@perlundgren7797 The opponent really had no strategy other than to cancel spells. And once he exhausted the majority of his counters on dink spells he scooped because he realized he was terrible at playing decks he netted from the internet
16:40 order does matter; the order you chose is vulnerable to brazen borrowing the tibalt with the draw spell on the stack to deny an activation
Same thing as activating a coating before casting karn so that they cant respond before you get to activate the ability. I guess he didnt get punished.
Omg this timing, I was looking for a good video with this deck yesterday and it seems cgb hears prayers
What do you mean he's a blue control mage of course he hears prayer
Jim Davis also made a cool video for cool stuff inc
Aggro is no fun to play, control no fun to play against. When will midrange be meta again? State farm remembers.
To be honest, one shouldn't be able to cast Tibalt when finding Valki with the ultimatum. The texts says (and explicitly implies) only mono coloured, in the same way they just updated the Cascade rule so you can't cast Tibalt when hitting Valki after cascading a 3 or more CMC card. My two cents.
Totally agree
While I understand your logic, cascade gave you the ability to cast tibalt on turn 3. Emergent gives your opponent the choice to allow you to cast tibalt + a freebie on turn 7 for a fairly restrictive cost. Shit ain't the same imo
Explicitly implies? Lulz
@@saturninewyrd But turn 3 or not, in Cascade the rules says you can cast cards with lesser CMC when cascading. Valki is 2 CMC and Valki and Tibalt are the same card, so you should be able to do so. However they changed it, precisely 'cause it was not logical since each side of the card has its own different CMC, 2 and 7 respectively (and different colour too, mind you), they had to fix it so the ruling fits what the mechanic is actually saying and be more consistent, logical and intuitive. In the same way, Ultimatum says mono-coloured cards. You should only be able to cast the mono-coloured part, that's what the mechanic is actually saying. It being "fair or unfair, broken or not" is irrelevant here, but consistency and intuitive, logical results based on the ruling.
Edit: If Tibalt would be only red, or only black, then it would be fine, but is multi-coloured, hence it makes no sense with Ultimatum.
Absolutely! Totally agree but this dude thinks he's all that. I had to unsubscribe cuz he sounds like a jackass most of the time!
*tips fedora* “Sk’noodle”
Went against this deck yesterday evening with me playing a budget simic kicker deck (the same I crafted for €6 on paper lol) and won. It was a cool match: opponent casted the ultimatum 3 times :D
nice, what did you do for the ultimatums counter them? or just kill whatever he puts down ?
@@isaz2425 i run 0 counters on that deck:opponent always picked vorinclex, alrund's epiphany, tibalt or the exile all 3cmc or less: with 3/4 dragon's nests on board you get a bunch of 2/2 flyers each time you kick a spell so I just needed to not give him extra turns
Burning rune demon is neat in this too, gives you another ultimatum if the let it all through
I’m getting so bored of rogues that I’m finding myself just instant conceding rather than bother with them. I crafted the deck on release day like a kid at Christmas and now it makes me nauseous 🤮
I mean a Rogues deck sounded cool at the time and I was excited too. But combining mill+counter+destroy cards is pretty lame! Not what I thought Rogues do
I'm with you. Unfortunately the 'instant concede' effect is just another factor that appeals to those players that still play rogues every day
@@RobbieB2606 So what you’re saying is that, when I see Rogues, I should open UA-cam on my phone and rope. I’ll try that instead. Thanks for the great advice!
when im not using my kroxa deck i just concede.
people go for rogues and cycle cause its cheap to craft especially for new comers and beginners .... tot totottot
This deck works really well I have been running it for a few weeks now. The main issue is you get too many bombs in your hand or run out of fetch targets.
start of the intro cut off slightly for the second time since yesterday, I feel robbed :(
I have been playing the version you showed on stream with Toski. Love swinging in with Toski and 2 birds to draw 3. Feel like Im winning the game then, who cares about Kiora BTSG and Tibalt.
Not gonna lie...kinda rooting for the Cosmos Elixer deck. I really love that card.
I *was* rooting for them up until they played the Ugin. But I guess if you're trying to make janky colorless cards work in a competitive capacity, that's where you stick it.
Crafted this deck and it’s pretty much 50/50. And he’s right, it’s very tough against mono white. If you don’t draw your sweepers you get run over pretty quickly. What I found out is the best way to counter these small aggro decks is to ultimatum into Shadows’ Verdict, Extinctjon Event, and Eliminate or Heartless Act. It’s the only way to guarantee you get out of that mess.
esika's chariot is pretty good against aggro. they need several cards to remove it completely with the tokens, and you can bounce it with yorion.
Had a fun with this one a bit.. first few games were great than the almighty shuffler algorithms kicked in they had all the perfect curves and drawes and i kept getting shit hands and no ultimatums ...still love how the game just doesnt let u win or even have a chance
I think what would frustrate me a lot more when playing this deck than playing against aggro is playing the mirror match. Unless I'm really land screwed, matching up removals against mono-red's threats and stuff is like a relaxing game of solitaire, and when I do stabilize it feels really nice. That's something about Magic that I'll always appreciate that will never go away, no matter what the meta is. On the other hand, the mirror match is just "hi yes i drew my ultimatum first please concede now". Enough of those, and I'll start thinking about how to make my own anti-Ultimatum deck.
Sultai Yorion! Aka Dimir with Green! or Simic with Black! or Golgari with Blue!

Yoooooooooo Add solve the equation to this deck from Strixhaven and it makes it insane, basically gives you 4 more chances to pull emergent. I got screwed in a game where i had 20 lands out and still didnt pull an emergent, so i looked into the new packs and found a spell fetch that works insanely well with this.
Favorite moment: "Turd's Lantern..."
OK - so as always CGB, I love your videos. Please keep 'em coming.
I myself had been having a lot of trouble on ladder with the current meta, including, among others, this deck as well.
A few days ago I managed to come up with a Mono Blue deck which can deal with his deck and has relatively good matchups vs almost any other deck, weaker against heavy aggro decks. I don't know the win rate, but on Sunday I was in diamond 4, and now I got to mythic so was pretty good; I would say at least 60%. I am even tempted to call this deck "the Answer" as CGB likes to term the decks that can defeat anything, generally.
So here goes:
4 X Ascendant spirit - really chip and great mana dump whenever you can. If it lives after it comes down, also really good against mono red and white (green can get too big for it, but sometimes not);
3 X Bind the monster - one mana "removal"; gets through those pesky indestructible creatures and really helps stabalize the deck against aggro;
2X lofty Denial;
2X negate;
4 Brazen Borrower;
1X Cosima, God of the Voyage - not a must, but a good body to block and helps draw cards, and/or the omenkeel can really be clutch to crew it with the ascendant spirit and get more lands;
1X midnight clock - slight ramp and/or card draw and/or anti rogues;
2X mystical dispute;
4X saw it coming;
2X whirlwind denial - amazing card for the meta i think, can stop planeswalker abilities, faceless havens turning into creatures, sagas, and of course counter spells (the most fun is countering an adventure spell along with the edgewall innkeeper draw).
2X rewind - I think this is important as there are times when you have to be able to use more mana than you have to counter two spells or bring out the borrower after a counter to put pressure;
3X voracious Greatshark;
3X shark typhoon;
2X sublime epiphany;
2X Sea gate restoration;
19X snow covered lands;
4X Faceless havens;
Hope this helps somebody, and that no one gets upset at the long message.
I'm waiting on my reappearance on this channel
I dont normally like most meta decks however, i do love this one. Unfortunately my wildcards are almost non existent. My heart broke durring the F2k tournament when mono white destroyed everything. (Already hated facing mono white)
Paused at 0:56 look how Evil and Happy he looks xD
Been playing this for days now, such a fun deck!
Sultai all the way, thank you cbg for the amazing content! Keep it up
I've been playing against so many of these the last couple of days that I've just maindecked a couple of Necromentia just to deal with it.
Your commentary during the Rogue match was epic. I was laughing the whole time.lol “Loser” lmao!
I'm still trying to draw cards after I cast Emergent Ultimatum, they all scoop lol, thanks CGB, this deck is really awesome!!!
The way he crushed minored that first game made me so happy!
CGB I think you forgot that binding the old gods is a removal spell in that mono red game with torbrand ♥️♥️♥️
Guys how do you find where deck lists are posted that won 6 games in a row on MTG arena?
1:06 yes, fetch three mono red cards... I choose fervent champion, robber of the rich and anax, that will get them!!!11
@Todd Packer Lol wtf are you talking about. Eldraine alone gave mono red a million different tools.
@@michaelmcdonald2005 Literally all their good stuff came from Eldraine lmao. Anax is like the only exception.
When the meta shifts but ppl still play rogues, mono red and mono white
The meta never shifted
they made aggro too strong, we need more hexproof cheap ramping creature, for example stuff like esika should have come with hexproof etc...
@@Amphok They made aggro too strong because control is too strong. They just keep making both ends stronger, meanwhile midrange decks are left in between wondering how to build vs both extremes. It's so annoying to try and pilot anything that doesn't try to kill by turn 3 or can't play a wincon by turn 5/6. Once you start optimizing your fun brewed deck you always end up being either more aggro or way more control at which point you probably turn it into a Yorion pile.
And the worse one, yorion players, why these people should die in rl?
@@matthoward6130 i don't want to fill my deck with boring removal just to stop aggro from letting me ramp to my lovely genesis ultimatum, the problem is just the stupid embercleave
Goddamn. This deck is everywhere right now. Including in my own hands. Should probably add a few counterspell and remove a few spot removals
Just think what this deck would be if Uro and Growth spiral weren't banned 😈😈
Along with Casualties of War having rotated out... :)
This is when i wish i spent on Arena! Would love playing this!
1:08 you know that you have to do a mono red Ultimatum Deck now? :D
Out of the Triple-Devotion Eldraine Nobles, who do people think is the best? (Gadwick (U), Yorvo (G), Linda (W), Torbran (R) or Ayara (B))
Yorvo or Gadwick easy
-casually forgets about mono-Red-
Gadwick is definitely my favorite. He used to be awesome in Dimir Control.
Linden if in mono white or white heavy deck
Playing this 20 years ago, i had 7 decks that used to destroy everything, the game looks so different right now, and on top i am so sad my brother sold my cards cause he needed the money asap .... while if i kept those cards they would be worth a fortune...
Good thing about the deck is that you can sideboard really well against it. It struggles a lot vs any combination of Goldspan and counters. Even if you run creatures, Duress helps a lot because if you just take their payoff, the deck struggles to do anything. Might be powerful but the gameplan is too linear and easy to attack in competitive formats in my opinion.
I play it and it's usually fine, after side I have more counterspells to deal with the oponent's ones, and extinction event, yorion and shark typhoon to deal with the dragon.
After the first game, there was an 100% winrate
After the first game you saw.......
@Todd Packer yeah I know. Don't fault him. I do appreciate when he posts an epic loss though and that he's honest
@Todd Packer he used to post the whole thing on his other channel, but apparently not enough people watched them :(

I'm wondering why Burning Rune demon isn't in the deck it allows to get another ultimatum or something relevant... no ?
What would you take out
@@getlooky736 I personally took out one elspeth's nightmare and added burning rune demon... I also took out two shadow's verdict and put 2 negate spells to help fight against either ramp decks or decks with a counters waiting. I have been having a lot of success with this deck plus the changes!!!
And it's about time the best ultamatum gets reconition
Yorion? CGB? What a twist!
Comment for the algorithm. Just what this fan wanted, a yoooooorion deck!
Thanks CGB... Now as usual everyone will copy this deck and my "Rakdos sacrifice" will get dunked on even more... 😭
So what you're saying is I need to play more Disdainful Strokes and Mystical Disputes to deal with this deck
Disdainful stroke is a dead card in so many matchups. Mystical dispute, though...
@@danieledman5826 I like to carry at least 1 Stroke, and will be upping my Dispute count. I’m on a Yorion pile which is why I was thinking of upping the Disdainful count.
Disdainful stroke and weathered runestone. I already maindeck 4 negates and 4 see it coming and 4 mystical disputes but the ultimatum decks still destroy me. Miscast doesn’t help as much because the have so much mana they can cover the cost and miscast doesn’t hit planeswalkers or Kiora.
Interesting that the top deck right now doesn’t have any cards from Eldraine (except Fabled Passage, but that’s so ubiquitous I almost forgot) despite the set being so pushed and overrepresented in Standard for such a long time. A Valki rules change to prevent casting the Tibalt off of ultimatum might edge it out though. Are you sure that his deck isn’t supposed to have a Henge or an Embercleave in it?
I'm sure the deck would've run Oko and Once Upon a Time if it could.
I think both of those cards are very good in creature heavy decks, but this deck has 4 total creature spells in it - 5 if you count kbtsg. That means the cards are blanks outside of casting them off of ultimatum. Saying that, getting to embercleave a vorinclex does sound like a lot of fun
Companions are now the Retro-Foretell Mechanism.
That red game was just something else.
Ok the 2nd red game just after was even better.
CGB "get your ass to mythic"

Toski seems to be a good answer to this deck
You mean that a single 1/1 for 4 mana is gonna pay off before it gets exiled by tibalt? With that greed and value, +ramp, Guess not
Anyone else sings the "CovertGoBlue" to the tune at the intro or am I the only one? It has become like a daily ritual for me now

Double dose of CGB? Push back the meetings!
You called it cgb... now I want to see you play 4 color emergent ultimatum fetching 3 Red cards (fiery emancipation +Brash taunter+ sundering stroke)
The order does matter, if you cast tibalt first they can bounce before you activate
Some satisfying games brotha
I'm tired of seeing Rouges but I do laugh sometimes when I got an 80 card yorion deck.
the way you just demolished the red deck at 25 minutes may have been one of your all time best magic moments. you should publish it seperately as a warning to monored players
Love when people run out of counters then scoop, because thats apparently all they can do
Thanks for the video!
Monored, Monored CGB loves Monored
DragonGoFacey is my new favorite UA-camr

As someone who just downloaded the game about 6 hours ago, I have no idea what I'm watching. I have the white deck that heals a lot. But UA-cam recommends, right?
my god these wins are crazy what vid :O)
"What a loser" CGB 2021
Those were some epic fights!
That dual color tibalt fetching through the ultimatuum is a massive oversight, there should be some kind of restriction on that since the card is technically both. The card is both all black and black/red
technically, it's a black card from which you can cast either a black or a black-red spell.
it's a weird effect of the rules but it's also that rule that prevents you from playing tibalt with some other effects in the game (like when you bounce it with yorion or if you reanimate it from the graveyard directly to the battlefield)
Oh boy, a Soul Tomato deck!!
tHe ShUfFlEr Is FiNe
7:24 i guess i want them to counter? Nice save, you even managed to sound smart.
When gold league spams ultimatums, you can be sure that CGB uploaded a hype video that all the fanboys crafted. Thanks! Time for some counter magic
I played this last week from gold to diamond, 70% win rate. Then it caught on and there were a lot of mirrors and I hate mirrors
Not thinking in how Binding the olds gods works. 98% mythic player, imagine the guys below that.
I'm going to make this deck.
I made it a week ago. It's surprisingly bad. I lost more than I won in Platinum and I won against it several times with mono white and Rogues.
