The trouble we go thru to keep fish alive to only catch more fish ! 😂😂 Love the channel
Fantastic step by step instruction. I am picking up a used 8.8 cu ft freezer tomorrow and I can't wait to get started. Thanks for the video. Doing this from scratch would introduce so many lessons learned. You make 98% of it very easy. The power of UA-cam to educate is unbelievable.
"I'm a bit of a perfectionist." Yes you are and I'm very happy for it. Excellent video! Don't think I'll ever make one but I was still captivated throughout the entire thing.
I have multiple smaller bait tanks but I cant wait to have a garage to build one of these lol I have wanted to forever now!
Great build! I would make a suggestion on your filter. would wrap some insulation around the bucket since it’s colder it does create a lot of condensation. I love the spray bar coming in it aerates the bacteria well. Keep up the great work!
That's the one thing I've been considering. Make a container around my 5 gal bucket and spray foam the entire inside.
@@330Maniac that would be a good idea. If you do, please post it!
Appreciate the details. Building this exact setup now.
Nice work.. tip throw a few rocks in for them itll help with stress of the minnow..notice how they were by the pumps helps them feel safe like they have something to hide behind..
I love the idea for the lid thank you
This was a GREAT video. I just built mine, G Juice added, will do water quality test soon, and check my traps! Thanks for sharing....!!
That is very impressive! Definately going to build me one of those! Great video!
Looks to be a cool build! Thx for posting!
Q: Why not just cut the lid 80/20 that came with the freezer? It's already insulated and would be easy to move the hinge over leaving the "20" piece in place for the filter to sit on.
I think the idea is to save the lid just in case you revert the freezer back to it's original mode. If you are not concerned about that then I would say hack away.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Awesome build!!
Heck of a setup, going to build one soon. Thanks for the info
Great video.
That is sweet!! Love all your vids!! Keep em coming!!
Ayyyy nice job
Thanks man!!! Gave you a shout out from your build!!
Looks good. Keep the vids coming. Cant wait for ur ice vids.
Nice job !👍
Also, great video by the way, thank you!
That's a nice drill Press
Good show.
Your filter design makes much more sense than others that pump the water to the bottom of the bucket and then it comes up thru the filters and back out the exhaust in to the tank. Their design doesn't make sense as far as filter stages and cleaning
How have those 2 pumps held up? Wondering what kind of service life you could expect if running them continuously for 5 months out of the year.
I made mine the same way. Do you have a problem with condensation on the bucket? Thanks
What all pvc and tubing attachments did you exactly use by chance? I was looking for a list but couldn't find it.
I watched your video and I am very impressed, I like the attention to detail. My question is what kind of pump do you use for the air to be pumped into the water?
Awesome thanks for sharing
I noticed a lot of sweating on the freezer system with the green filter 5 gal bucket. I plan on having mine in an detached garage where temps could reach 90 degrees in hottest part of summer. I see in the comments about insulation but not sure if that just ends up with moisture on the plywood anyway. Should I put the 5 gal bucket filter system in some type of tray to catch the sweating or paint the plywood or something else? Love the build process and plan on following it very closely as I build out my system.
Very good! Nice garage/shop. What do you do for a living that requires a nice big shop like that ??
Still using the ozone injector? Feel like it works better than a stone or spray bar or just holding the return line higher to add air?
I want to build one. But I can’t find the list of components that you was in the description. How do I find that?
That's pretty awesome! Will it work in the wintertime if stored in your garage? Obviously you wouldn't have to "cool" your water, but how would you heat it so that the water doesn't freeze, a heater? I know you do a lot of ice fishing so I assume you'll continue to use it in the wintertime.
It would have to be in someplace heated
Wooooooooooooooo- Ric Flair style
How have those pumps worked for you so far? Trying to figure out which one to get. Any changes to the system?
They worked fantastic this summer. Ran them for about 3 months straight
I did this but I went thru the side wall and it killed the freezer from working. Iam going to try this idea
I’m thinking about putting mine in my shop it’s not real big but my concern is the smell. Do you get much odor from it?
I have had mine going for a couple weeks and the water is getting nasty what do u think I should do
Usually once a month I will drain the tank and clean everything
Should have put a hot water heater drain pan under your bucket so it isn't soaking your wood and pipe it down into the cooler also thats what I would try if you make another one
How's the bait tank been working? Are you going to run it year round?
It ran like a dream all summer and fall. I have it shut down for now
Cut the foam with an electronic carving knife, that's what my mom does when she re-upholstered chairs and such.
So did you glue a 1 1/2 coupler onto a 1 1/4 elbow?
If you have this in an uninsulated garage will it heat the water to the 53^ in the winter ?
Maybe if you had a water heater plugged into it. The probe simply shuts off the device when the water temp hits a certain temp. A freezer of course only cools not heats
Thought maybe you could reverse the freezer compressor like a heat pump ? Just a thought .
I don't know about that. It is a freezer and made for freezing food.
What was the pop up about holes in the lid for moisture release?
Yep
@@330Maniac so you just drilled holes through the plywood and foam insulation?
Yes through both. Then vacuumed everything up inside
Were did you get the ozonator
Is that a dry box where the pumps go? Where can I get one and one that size? thanks good information and tips great explanation great channel
How often do you clean the filter media?
Once every 2 weeks
Do you feed your minnows? If so, what?
Oatmeal
@@330Maniac great, thanks
Great video sir. What product did you add to the water if I might ask.
Thanks again. Always enjoy your videos.
Thanks! It called G juice
so..... yeah
what temp do you set the freezer at or does it matter ?
I have it set at medium
@@330Maniac Do you know the directional temperature in Fahrenheit? I have seen some folks put it down below 60. Seems a bit extreme but maybe it depends on the time of year and the process of moving them to a bait tank being used on the day of fishing.
If you have a well I think I would just continuously inject free water and dump the overflow.
Comments solicited.
Where did you get the ozone part?
Amazon. Check the description it has a list of parts.
Would it not be better to pump the water into the bottom of the filter? Then as it rises up through the filter media the filter actually completely works; before the water reaches the drain toward the top, and drops back into the tank?? This filter design is not so good.
Oh my…why are you not adding glue to attach your insulation in addition to those bolts? And my man. You should cover that would with water seal before adding the insulation.
No, you want the water to filter down through the top so it creates good bacteria in the filter below.
GO Minnesota Vikings!!!
Spade bit...
use aquarium silicone, other types will kill fish !!!!!
I have had mine going for a couple weeks and the water is getting nasty what do u think I should do
I wonder if you are feeding them too much? curious about feed and how many minnows can you safely keep?
Don't feed them. No need. I guess mine I'm not keeping more than 2 weeks. But feeding them is really pointless.
Is your water cycled?
