SANDBOARDING at Jockey's Ridge State Park // Outer Banks North Carolina

Jockey's Ridge State Park in the Outer Banks, North Carolina is home to the tallest living sand dune on the Atlantic coast is a premier location for kites, sightseeing and sunsets, with a view arcing from the ocean to Roanoke Sound. You can sandboard the largest sand dunes on the east coast by renting sandboards from Kitty Hawk Kites Hang Gliding School located in the park. It is a must see while on your OBX vacation.

I sandboarded Jockey's Ridge with my snowboard back in the 1980s. It got a lot of attention from the crowd at the top of the tallest dune. I remember one tourist wearing dark socks with sandals called my board "an interesting apparatus".

We were out at the dunes one year, and a guy was used a slab of cardboard to belly slide down the dunes, and there was a nice little pool of water at the bottom for everyone to swim in! Fun stuff

Cardboard would work. The boards are fun an require wax. We hit Jockeys Ridge every time we are in OBX. The views are great of the sound and ocean.

I would suggest the 4x4 beach, any of the light houses, the piers, and we enjoyed the aquarium in Roanoke. And of course Duck Donuts and the beach!
