- I've made it to Asunción, the capital city of Paraguay, and apparently, they say, the most BORING capital city of South America....everyone literally asked me why the hell I decided to come here?
So, me being me, I decided to check it out, and see whether Asunción is really as bad as they say...
Should you avoid this city when traveling South America, as everyone tells you, or is it actually a hidden gem?

After that the Brazil Series continues 🇧🇷!
The wrong thing that all gringos do is to stay in the Old Center where nobody goes. The New center (villa morra, ykua sati) is where the business area, shoppings, pubs, clubs.
I lived in Asuncion for 20 years, it was a very good time!
The reason that is empty in January is because is summer , school holidays and most of people are on vacation
They travel to Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina to enjoy the beaches there
Remember, Paraguay is a landlocked country and Paraguay has a lot of immigrants too
Porqué te calenta,ani epena jece...
And to Encarnación too 😎
Nobody comes 'cause it's way too hot 💀
The borders with Argentina on the Paraguay River is 25 Km to the south of the city, the bridge sean to the norte of the city takes you to the Paraguayan Chaco, the borders bridge with Argentina is over the Pilcomayo River that separates Paraguay from Argentina.
The laidbackness of Asuncion is more preferable than the toxic chaos of megacities like Bogota, Manila and Sao Paolo.
Hey joe! I'm the guy who met you on the subway going to Maracanã, nice videos bro. Keep doing the good job. And dont forget to watch a Vasco da Gama match in São Januário.
Thanks mate! I’ll defintely do that in the future 👌
Went there 4 years ago, because no one was going there :)
Alright, city for a day or 2, to get a glimpse of Paraguay... we then went to Encarnacion, which was a fun place to learn about history...
The historic center can be active; however, a lot of the social and economic activities now take place in the new area of Asuncion, along where the Word Trade Center buildings are located, Villa Morra, several shopping malls, etc,
Asuncion's population is actually about 500,000, 2 million if you count the surrounding areas, not really Asuncion proper anymore. The population is largely but not entirely homogenous. About 37% have Italian descendancy, and over the decades there have been German, Portuguese, Asian, and Slavic immigrants, especially German. Pure native people amount to no more than 30,000, and the different tribes are not all Guaranies. The black population is presently minuscule, with slavery officially abolished around 1865 or so. There are a just a few Afro-Paraguayans now left in the country, similar to Argentina. The historic center is typically neglected because of the lack of tourists although it has significant and beautiful colonial buildings. The City should certainly do a much better job of keeping everything up in a more satisfactory and presentable manner; however, in the end with so few tourists if any, who is going to care that much? Not the locals for the most part who seldom frequent the old historic center, except perhaps for La Calle Palma and Estrella,
Thanks for this in depth and informative comment mate! I Really appreciate it!
@@joechecksin Sure, I can tell you are an Aussie by using the word mate. Did you visit the new Asuncion, in the Villa Morra district or near the Paseo de La Galleria? That's where the action is with restaurants, shopping, pubs, restaurants on top with view of the city, etc.

If there is nothing for tourists to do, why would they come? It’s seems like the only activities are nature and museums and such…but nothing actually fun. If you build it, they will come
@@MourningWould Exactly because the country has things to offer but it’s capital just doesn’t keep up with its neighbouring countries
I wish I can go there because Canada is freezing cold😂
Believe me the 43 degree heat of asuncion is something different mate!
@@joechecksin It’s also unbearable.
That at the other side of the river, isn't Argentina. It is Chaco'i. And the "favelas" is chacarita. Ask any local and they will tell you. Also, you should call "cold mate" with its name, which is terere. Not doing this minimun is downright unrespectuful
Dollar store Kurt :) I like it 🤣😂 lemee know when you get big
I actually thought I was gonna watch one of kurt's videos lol.
This bald and bankrupt impression is crazyyyyyy. Not bad, sir. Not bad.
I looked at going to Asunción on a previous South America trip. I finally decided to pass because the flights landed or took off at 3:30am, and the flights were relatively expensive for the distance from neighboring countries, and there wasn't much to do or see as a tourist from my trip research, and I didn't know anyone to visit, and there didn't seem to be day trips available for anything that I remember. Maybe you can find something worthwhile and post it.
I do like the old town. Very low key and a bit rough around the edges. Little by little some of the fine old buildings are getting the fresh coats of paint they deserve. It's not though somewhere that puts on a show for the visitor, instead it's a place that asks the visitor to find it's little gems for themselves. Not easy for anyone (including me) to do on a first visit. Just one correction. In front of the city is Asuncion Bay, not the river. And actually the other side of the river is still Paraguay. Argentina is then just a little beyond that
Yes, he kept repeating about Argentina. Plain wrong. That is Chaco'i.
FROM ASUNCION WE FOUNDED 70 CITIES AS "BUENOS AIRES", "SANTA CRUZ", "SANTA FE" BUT IN 1616 PARAGUAYAN SPANISH PROVINCE WAS DIVIDED TO CREATE AN "VIRREINATO DEL RIO DE LA PLATA" THESE CITIES WERE STUCKED INTO OTHER GOBERNATIONS AS "BUENOS AIRES" AND THIS CREATE BASES TO FORM "ARGENTINA" AND "URUGUAY"
