I've never heard anyone talking about this sort of music in a video before. Great to see. I like some of the later Ultimae music but yeah...Distances. World of Sleepers. Leaving Home. Memory Shell. Did I mention Distances? That was the golden era of psybience. There's still nothing like those.
A shame that some of the more recent outputs from Ultimae haven't piqued your interest, some of my favorite releases from the label in entirety have come from the latest 2-4 years; stuff like Ligand and Granite from Martin Nonstatic, Border 50 from Master Margherita, and Far & Off from AES DANA and MikTek have been some real highlights for me. I'll be sure to check this album out, though! AES DANA is definitely up there when it comes to favorite producers on the label and as a whole.
Couldn’t agree more. Ultimae has really found its feet in my opinion. When I listen to earlier AES Dana, I hear promise, but it sounds more generic and disposable. Whether you like or dislike what Vince does and produces on Ultimae, he’s reached a state of mastery.
Honestly Far Off with Miktek was the most interesting project for me. The amount of detail and subtlety in the tracks is incredible and mindblowing. Especially Diffraction protocol
I think this album is amazing. I think our tastes are very different though, because I love the new direction of their music. My favorites have been this one and from Martin Nonstatic, Master Margherita, Eskostatic. I do think their old sound is still fabulous, but the subtle way the sounds morph and twist with the beats on these particular artists are pure eargasm for me.
Ultimae were one of the labels that got me into electronic music, so I'll always have a bit of a soft spot for them. I also feel that my own tastes have evolved along with theirs (that being away from psybient and trance and towards idm and techno). However, I feel the label should still branch out and find ways to keep expanding their sounds. With the release of this album (along with Border 50 and Remote Redux) I'm confident that they're moving towards something great. They may never be as popular as they were from, say, 2001-2012, but I'm still excited for what's next.
Interesting review TWA... seems like we prefer and dislike exactly the opposite output from AES Dana. But it's great to see a deep dive of his work -- all of his work deserves serious attention. I briefly met him and the Ultimae team at the studio in Lyon a few years ago and Ultimae Records just blows me away in terms of their high bar of quality and dedication to the craft. I absolutely loved the ALKALINE and CUT. EPs from him and MIKTEK and think INKS just takes the same vein to the next level. Loving the album... pre-ordered it on vinyl. Thanks for doing a video on this album!
I find that Inks has an element of Aes Dana that I've NOT heard before, actually. Its slightly darker but still just as organic and dynamic, and to me its among their best of all. To each their own I guess.
Any thoughts on Scann-Tec? The live mix of "Parsec" from Greenosophy II is what roped me into the label as a whole and I haven't missed a release since.
Love the label for years, it’s sad that lately there is not much of material coming from them, this album is a breath of fresh air...hope they can continue doing great music
oh I can believe it, Ultimae Records mastering jobs always used to be great back in the days when Movements came out. I've only heard the original and not any remasters, can't imagine later versions would be THAT much worse but I don't feel the need to seek them out lol (mentioned Movements in this video as well, at #92 ua-cam.com/video/jmYXmdd_8ec/v-deo.html)
Pretty much echoes my opinion of it. It's a good album; High tech, deep, cinematic, but perhaps a bit bland. Which is how I've viewed Ultimae the past few years as well...Surprised you rate Memory Shell low, that's usually people's favourite! Also noticed you used the remastered artwork for Aftermath, if you haven't already make sure you listen to the original masters of all Ultimae's material. There's been quite a few remasters this decade and they've all striped the warmth from their albums imo.
Compared to Movements and Leaving Home remasters they are just perfect. This retarded Sidereal label does something with Magnus, I'm worried about him.

TREELINE by Martin Nonstatic just came out on Ultimae. Deep work and perhaps worth a review.

Excited to see what you think about the new BT album

Aes Dana is Maestro !!!
Love this album. Aes dana and lars leonhard gotta be my top fav musicians in this genre😊😁
Nice one Mr Wonky. Keep the awesome reviews coming. 👍
dsmyify Think he’d prefer Sr. Angle of Wonksville

I remember enjoying both the Morpheus "live" album and Unyt, but neither really stuck with me long-term
@@TheWonkyAngle Unrelated reccs tho, since you might like them: em:t records (and Woob by extension) and Bowery Electric/Echostar
talk about new album from burial

Review Solar Fields - "Movements" pls
well I reviewed his last album ua-cam.com/video/QWFQNVdpCzg/v-deo.html
@@TheWonkyAngle Movements is even better, but you should hear the original, NOT remastered. I can explain later why if you want to know.

I really dig this album, I wish I could find a reasonably priced copy on wax.
