Istabraq was a champion among champions , he would have gotten 4 in a row only for foot and mouth, but his achievements were extraordinary
As Dick Francis fans, my friend Hal and I came from Arizona to see a day of the festival racing. What a day! Topped off by a winning be on Istabraq !
Jake la Motta, Vince Lombardi, Pele, Maradona, and above them all all the greatest Hurdler of all time!! ISTABRAQ what a champion
A beautiful animal. The best champion hurdler,in my life time.
Simon Holt's finest hour as a racing commentator.
As he's still commentating it makes it feel like these races are only a couple of years ago
The greatest hurdler of recent years. Beast.
the hat trick and never in doubt well done Istabraq
The best horse Aidan o'Brien has ever trained.
National hunt horse yes
Poor rating on the flat
@@jamescol658 Not according to the man himself. When he foolishly said, when the horse was a 2-year-old, that Australia was the best horse he had trained, he corrected himself later by saying 'actually Istabraq is the best I have trained'. At the time I said 'wow!', what a statement.
Forget hurricane fly and the rest this lad would take them all. I think he still holds the track record time for the champion hurdle. Great horse
Think it's Annie Power mate?
@@andijw79 you beat what is there. In 50 years istabraq will be a Cheltenham legend. Annie power, great horse, won't be.
Thanks for uploading! My favourite ever hurdler!
The champion of champions
Id say he would of won the 2001 hurdle aswell if it wasnt cancelled over foot and mouth disease 🐎👑
What a beautiful brilliant horse!
Istabraq the great

The champion of champions. Nuff said
+zimzum55 zimzum55 Agree with it. The highlight of that year's Festival.
To be a champion of champions you have to beat some champions ok
@@alanrobson7880 Well he did beat Hors La Loi who won a Champion Hurdle. Istabraq could only beat what was put in front of him, not his fault they weren't good enough to test him.
He is THEE KING !!
The greatest hurdler EVER
Wipes constition hill
Ireland's horse
I know that I will get stick for this and Istabraq can only have beaten the rivals he faced but what did he actually beat of note in his Champion Hurdle wins?
Even in this race, the 4th Ashley Park was a novice having only his second run over hurdles and yet was only 4¾L behind.
Whatever dufus 🙄
@@roberto4001000 So someone stating facts in your little world is a "dufus" then?
In mine, it is someone who goes straight to childish name-calling as a first resort because they might not like the facts but cannot argue with them.
He won them all so easy and broke the track record in the process, did Ashley park ever look like he was going to win ? And he wasnt a bad novice .
@@roberto4001000 True, but if I am suggesting that Istabraq did not really beat much (not his fault by the way) then he really should have been beating them easily.
Istabraq raced up the inside rail, whereas Ashley Park raced out eight horses wide (something that his jockey Timmy Murphy tended to do at Cheltenham), yet Ashley Park was only about a stride behind Istabraq when jumping the last flight and 4¾L at the finish, despite covering more ground out wide.
He then finished in a bunched 4th, with a neck between 2nd and 3rd and ½L between 3rd and 4th, in what was only his second run ever over hurdles, having only previously won a novice hurdle 390 days prior to the Champion Hurdle.
So either Ashley Park was outstanding, yet was beaten next time out by a horse whose own best finish in a Champion Hurdle was 4th, or it supports my argument that Istabraq did not beat much in his three wins in the race.
I know that it is an unpopular view but it just happens to be the latter of the two.
@@seanscanlon9067 If you watch his two previous champion hurdles and know your stuff like you claim to, Charlie always took it up after the second last, this time he waited till the last because he was so confident, win it easy, and another horse istabraq beat was Moscow flyer and we all know what he went into do ..... So stop looking to fir holes he was solid horse who did whatever he was asked, as the commentator said a true champion, was never beaten over two miles .... I know my stuff I've been involved in racing for 30 years, istabraq was the best hurdler by a mile .
honeysuckle or istabraq?
Istabraq
Ok
what acsuperstar
Make A Stand, the front running 1997 winner in this famous renewal.
Any horse that wins three champion hurdles as got to be good but can anyone name the second or the there'd in any of them Ivan not remember seeing a night nurse sea pigeon or monksfield birds nest bula comedy of errors think that says it all
Faugheen and annie power would have beaten him by at least 2 lengths
Keep smoking the wacky dude .....
@@roberto4001000 you clearly do lol
@@craigpope8580 I've been racing 45 years and no other hurdler in that time would beat istsbraq at Cheltenham ......FACT .
That's your opinion no doubting he was a great hurdler but he was ground dependent faugheen was not if it was good good to soft soft in places or heavy Istabraq stands no chance against faugheen quick ground then yes I'll give you that he probably wins
@@craigpope8580 Istabraq was not ground dependent over 2 miles ....2 and a half he was beaten once or twice .....you haven't a clue what your talking about ...
