Yet to me, it was even more satisfying than Darlene shooting Del . Rachel probably saved a great number of people that would have been ambushed by Nelson in the future using the same MO he used on others - ambush.
Nelson was such an underrated character. He added a lot of uncertainty and tension to some scenes. I do feel his death was kind of rushed. Edit: what I meant to say is his death seemed rushed because other deaths in the show have been more shocking and unexpected.
The whole thing that makes 90% of deaths in the show so shocking is how sudden they are lmao, that’s intentional. Like that’s what made Helen’s death so memorable
@@febreeze4677 I think they mean that Nelson just driving up like a moron is a wasted opportunity. Imagine an actually slightly extended scene with tension as Nelson skulks through the woods - like he really would.
This being the final season, the writers tried to rush things and some deaths were not convicing at all. Nelson is a trained hitman. Why would he drive his car all the way to the point where he can be seen? He should have left the car some distance away and walked wearing all black of course to camouflage. This was just a rookie mistake on Nelson's part of course due to rushed writing.
Nelson has killed so many people, he got cocky. He never took any of those precautions with anyone (even with the people he's killed in the show) because it didn't matter, they either didn't see him coming, were unlikely unarmed and were helpless to fight back. This time his almost would-be victim was prepared and it was so dark and the rain blocked his vision from seeing her on the rooftop. He also didn't know Ruth would be smart enough to jump to the conclusion he'd be coming for her. There's no such thing as a rookie mistake, in Nelson's line of work; you will die nevertheless, rival cartel or outlier (as we see).
Other than Sue and Ben he was a sloppy ass killer. Rachel got the drop on him, bet he mostly relied on sneak attacks rather than actual skill like martial arts or marksmanship. Hence, once the element of surprise was gone he lost.

I think he was killed off in a good way
Interesting how earlier in the show, Nelson spoke to the shrink about a problem he had with his "dog". But it really was Nelson who was the dog in the show that only listened to his master's voice. And in the end he got taken down like a wild animal, or in other words - like a dog.
as a hitman for the cartel this is exactly how you're gonna end. even if you're really good like nelson (or especially if ya) at some point you're gonna end up with dozens of people having a death grudge on you, that's a pretty bad thing if your job requires you to be in dark surroundings like a .... well wood for example where any of them could end you at any time. ruth agreed on that later on. beside that, he did NOT look surprised like Rachel claimed.
Probably surprised that a target fought rather than run. I'd imagine he had intel regarding Rachel's past as being "weak" or a runner. If anything his lack of security and assessment of surroundings before he left his vehicle got him killed. Also, him being a tool for the cartel also means he'd probably know too much so he's also a good target to remove even by his own bosses.
@@blacklight1104 I dont even think he knew Rachel was bunking with Ruth at this point since they just started living together and Nelson had to have been tailing Ruth most of the time after his initial threat on Rachel. @@nirjhar4803 Makes sense but damn. You'd think he'll be more wary of his surroundings given the danger of his occupation. Yet Rachel came out on top. Outside of the Byrds, Rachel took the money from the walls in the restaurant, disappears and re-appears and Ozark born and bred skills saved her from Nelson.
It’s the fact that it was Rachel, a character who I seriously don’t like killed this bad ass, stone cold hitman. If it was Ruth then I’d buy it but not Rachel the drug addict who abandoned her poor son and blamed Marty on his misery while she worked in a cloths shop in another state

rather than a flaw i think this can just be attributed to the way they cut the scene, while we see her actually eject the first spent round, it cuts before she puts the next round in, so its hard to tell if its meant to be her cycling it twice under stress, or just doing it once.
Ooh yeah she did do that twice before the next shot she took. Great observation, I never notice stuff like that till I'm on at least my third go round of watching a show.
@@lynseylou7318 It takes a few. I just noticed in the Godfather for the first time that after the meeting with Michael and Carlo, and they are leaving the house and Carlo is in the car, that Tom straightens his tie knot which was the signal to Clemensa to garrot Carlo.

@@concept5631 I never said that. Of course he wouldn't know that But if you're trained to kill people you don't just announce yourself You park car close by and walk the rest of the way and come from behind
@@icantthinkofacoolname1308 Nelson is my favorite character and I was trying to think of when he was sneaky. Other than when he was in the back seat of Rachel's truck, he seemed to be pretty open with his stuff. He just would clean up after a leave little to no trace behind. He killed Helen in the open, the Corner store guy in season 2 for the tapes. When he saw the therapist, he went under an alias and wore gloves and dumped the car. Walked up to Ben in the open then took him somewhere hidden. Followed Ruth, knowing that she could see him and gave him the finger. So for me I wouldn't say sneaky in terms of not being seen but he does have something to him. I definitely think if Ruth didn't warn Rachel, he would have done something. Since she was watching TV and didn't immediately know where the gun was.
Can anyone tell me what nelson was even doing there? And following ruth? Pretty sure he already intimidated rachel when wendy asked, and I don't recall her asking again(obviously, there was no need anyways, things worked out). No one else from the cartel seemed convinced ruth and rachel need to die, I mean, they didn't even know... So what exactly was nelson doing? Best I can come up with is wendy forgetting to tell nelson to back off, but that's kinda cheap.
One of the very many things that ruined the second half of the final season for me. No way would an stone-cold hitman with the body count of a Chinese cemetery be over-powered by some ordinary Jane, with little to no firearm experience, in the middle of a pitch black downpour.
Why? He didn't know she was there and counted on the fear that he instilled in so many others he killed in the same ambush manner. He wasn't there for a gentle talk with her had he taken her by surprise. The most satisfying death in the show for me.
I just watched an episode of banshee and realized how much if a similar world these two have, so many same actors, Ben, Nelson, Sheriff, Sam, the big guy that was killed to compenate for Del , were all in banshee too. Both had fictional towns with all different races, natives, cazino ownership and its specific laws favor to indian lands etc.
The problem with this scene is Nelson, a seasoned assassin, drove up to her house with his lights on, left his car out right in the open, didn't scan his surroundings before getting out of his car, etc. He was cautious and patient so it's unlike his character in so many ways to just drive up to her house in the middle of the night, even if he thought Ruth wasn't home and he planned on waiting for her, he wouldn't have just left his car out in front of her house, his death was rushed and stupid and it's not how he would have acted in like 90% of situations. Half his kills were done in the middle of the day, he doesn't really care about the time, sure night is the best friend of any assassin but when your target knows you are coming for them, you are literally telling them what time you are going to be showing up.
i get it but he's facing someone who doesnt expect him coming at all from his perspective. especially someone like Rachel while its pouring rain out so she cant hear the car coming up.
Nelson is a professional assassin and yet he just gets out of his vehicle and stares directly at Rachel lying on the roof with a shotgun LOL that's just pathetic. Same with Ruth standing around the parked black Cadillac and awaiting Camila's appearance
was waiting for some kind of nelson fight scene this entire series kind of sad to never see one.. i remember thinking nelson was going to fight with ben would have been good although nelson most-likely would be able to handle him convincingly
People complain about this death but it makes total sense, Nelson is expecting someone who has no idea he’s coming, an unsuspecting target, so he has no reason to suspect he’s in any danger when gets there, she got the jump on him and in these situations that’s the difference between life and death
So we're just gonna ignore the fact that he had no reason to be going after Ruth at all? Camilla didn't knew it was Ruth who killed her son at the time, and Rachel agreed to keep laundering after Nelson threatened her. Season 4 was a mess.
Unlike a city area, not much surveillance video out in the Ozark back roads. Cops would have a hard time finding it. Also, the cartel is not about to ask the police to help them look for their missing assassin lol.
I need to rewatch part 2 of season 4. I don’t recall this at all. I feel like I purposely slowed down on season 4 and dragged it out cause I knew it was all going to end 😂

There should've been more of that in this show, or at least concealed carry... It's crazy that the likes of Ruth and even Marty never go on to carry a gun with them (in the state of fucking Missourri) at all times, especially after Javier's death.
love the show, but the one thing that sticks out as a repeated unlikely occurrence is the fact that these cartel ops travel around and go to do all these hits completely alone. most of Nelson's kills were by himself. considering I know the ins and outs or cartel procedures, I know that is super unlikely that any cartel hit men would be doing all that dirt completely by themselves. show started off with them coming through heavy and with a crew. maintained it for a little while, but only when something big or dramatic is happening/about to happen that they use like a full cartel crew. just wanted to point it out. Salud
That’s a good point but I remember there being three guys kidnapping Marty in season 3. Nelson is supposed to be a stealthy trigger man and it looks like he’s well respected in the cartel and heavily relied on which is why he specifically focuses on the byrdes and I think they also don’t want to waste people because del and the other guy from season 1 were both killed off so fast. I think their resolution to that was Nelson.
@@txvuniverse good point. Could be that the cartel decided Nelson would be sufficient enough to handle everything that comes with the Byrdes, alone. Other times Nelson would be with groups as well. But the scene with Marty getting kidnapped, kind of goes into what I was saying about they wait until big moments or dramatic scenes with something heavy going on (that obviously involves the cartel some way or another) to bring out the cartel crews. Idk, just seemed like an inconsistency to me. I'm the guy that points out everything wrong with a scene or show or movie, if u can't tell lol. Nelson was finally set free in a way.
This was an unsatisfying death but the scene individually is amazingly constructed.
Yet to me, it was even more satisfying than Darlene shooting Del . Rachel probably saved a great number of people that would have been ambushed by Nelson in the future using the same MO he used on others - ambush.
Discount Mike Ermanthraut.
He wasn't even careful, just underestimated this girl.
Nelson was such an underrated character. He added a lot of uncertainty and tension to some scenes. I do feel his death was kind of rushed.
Edit: what I meant to say is his death seemed rushed because other deaths in the show have been more shocking and unexpected.
What ab Del? He was shot in 1 second
who's death wasnt rushed in this show lmao
The whole thing that makes 90% of deaths in the show so shocking is how sudden they are lmao, that’s intentional. Like that’s what made Helen’s death so memorable
@@febreeze4677 del lmao
@@febreeze4677 I think they mean that Nelson just driving up like a moron is a wasted opportunity. Imagine an actually slightly extended scene with tension as Nelson skulks through the woods - like he really would.

Ruth wouldn't allow Marty to launder drug cartel money, the only reason the casino existed.
Tbh I'm not disappointed in Nelson's death Rachel is a G for doing that
Live by the sword, die by the sword... or gun in this case lol.
Awesome for someone selling windows shades a month ago.
He'll never kill anyone again.
@@samb123078 That pretty much sums it up.
@@samb123078 sneak attacks and lost element of surprise? Why would someone that relies so heavily on stealth drive right up with their headlights on? It's a weak plot point and nothing more.
@@brianfarris5676 I was gonna comment that he knew Ruth was at the station so he decided to post up and wait to kill Ruth when she gets back.I doubt he was aware she had company which is why he pulled up with the lights on but you could argue he most likely saw the lights, you can’t know for sure as a viewer, many variables but by then it was too late Ruth already warned her, thus why he got killed off easier than most would expect. Julia rocked her character Ruth. No one else one else would have brought her to life.so glad she won award.
One thing I don't understand is that when Rachel is climbing up, Nelson is literally driving towards her from behind.
How didn't he see her?!

Your looking at it from YOUR perspective. It was dark as hell in the middle of a downpour.
Go drive through the woods at night in the middle of a downpour and see how much you can see.
You also have to take into account the tenting of his windows on his car.
on a dark rainy day, when i stare out my bedroom window, if i have my lights on, i dont see shit.
Haha Rachel watching Duck Dynasty was fucking hilarious.
Imagine your best friend saying to run behind the trailer and she takes a position on top of the trailer...
LOL the first line had me laughing 😂
Shows what the genius sicario knows
@@blacklight1104 I dont even think he knew Rachel was bunking with Ruth at this point since they just started living together and Nelson had to have been tailing Ruth most of the time after his initial threat on Rachel.
He most likely went to Ruth's house to maybe camp out and then wait for Ruth to come.
@@nirjhar4803 Makes sense but damn. You'd think he'll be more wary of his surroundings given the danger of his occupation. I wasn’t happy with how Nelson or Ruth went but it had to happen man 😂
My heart knew Ruth was gonna die but she was the one character I wanted to live
Yet Rachel came out on top. Outside of the Byrds, Rachel took the money from the walls in the restaurant, disappears and re-appears and Ozark born and bred skills saved her from Nelson.
Always felt like he was an a angel of death, everyone he goes after confirmed kill. Fking Ozark is crazy, deaths happen unexpectedly
It’s the fact that it was Rachel, a character who I seriously don’t like killed this bad ass, stone cold hitman. If it was Ruth then I’d buy it but not Rachel the drug addict who abandoned her poor son and blamed Marty on his misery while she worked in a cloths shop in another state
Like Lucas Grey said in the Hitman video game from 2016 : "That's how you beat a better opponent, you strike from behind"
You fight dirty but still same sentiment
One of the best series ever! 💙💙
Just noticed a flaw, at 2:31 she ejects the round she fired at him. At 2:39 she does it again which would have ejected a live round. Also love it at 2:58 when she is standing over him with the rifle pointed down looking like an assassin.
rather than a flaw i think this can just be attributed to the way they cut the scene, while we see her actually eject the first spent round, it cuts before she puts the next round in, so its hard to tell if its meant to be her cycling it twice under stress, or just doing it once.
Lowkey was really rooting for Nelson to make it. He never took anything personal and for him to be taken out by Rachel felt a little shallow

Lmao nelson is not sneaky at all
@@MM-hi yeah I guess so
Camila is more sneaky than him
@@icantthinkofacoolname1308 Nelson is my favorite character and I was trying to think of when he was sneaky.
Everyone need's their own Nelson.
I guess a lot of people liked him. I definitely enjoyed seeing him get what he had coming.

That’s what makes a great show. The characters you don’t want to die.. get killed off.
Nelson was thinking, “damn camper!”
They should’ve ended the season here waited a year or two and done a film to finish out. This was insane.
Lol it probably wouldn't have been a fight between them...
People complain about this death but it makes total sense, Nelson is expecting someone who has no idea he’s coming, an unsuspecting target, so he has no reason to suspect he’s in any danger when gets there, she got the jump on him and in these situations that’s the difference between life and death
The only white hit man the cartel had that shows you nelson was a badass
Nelson such a character 😢😢😢.
This was a refreshing break from the norm. Bcz in Ozark, nothing ever seems to turn out well for anyone, at any time
Very suspenseful character never talked always had you thinking he was going to kill them on the spot. 😅
So we're just gonna ignore the fact that he had no reason to be going after Ruth at all? Camilla didn't knew it was Ruth who killed her son at the time, and Rachel agreed to keep laundering after Nelson threatened her. Season 4 was a mess.

And what happened to Nelson's car after his death? Where did they hide it?
It wasn't shown but I guess they dumped it in the lake somewhere like Helen and Nelson did with Sue's McLaren last season
I’m sure they dumped it in the lake.
Unlike a city area, not much surveillance video out in the Ozark back roads. Cops would have a hard time finding it. Also, the cartel is not about to ask the police to help them look for their missing assassin lol.
Kind of like asking what happened to Nix's cruiser after they killed him, especially since being a police car would most likely have a tracker on it

High power rifle, I'm not surprised.
love the show, but the one thing that sticks out as a repeated unlikely occurrence is the fact that these cartel ops travel around and go to do all these hits completely alone. most of Nelson's kills were by himself. considering I know the ins and outs or cartel procedures, I know that is super unlikely that any cartel hit men would be doing all that dirt completely by themselves. show started off with them coming through heavy and with a crew. maintained it for a little while, but only when something big or dramatic is happening/about to happen that they use like a full cartel crew. just wanted to point it out.
