This video gives me chills no matter how many times I watch it. Seeing her face when the confetti comes down and Drew repeatedly affirming her new reality as a million-dollar winner... it's absolutely wild. Her life changes in an instant and he really made it feel like they were on a team, kept her calm and she pulled it out.
My partner calls them liminal moments. It's the same reason I watch the golden buzzer videos. Moments between what came before and what comes after. There's a contagious joy to the experience of watching someone's life change in that instant.
Yup. Did you notice? He opens his arms to hug her first rather than waiting for her to run over to him. As far as I am concerned, the three greatest game (not quiz) show hosts were Bill Cullen, Bob Barker, and Monty Hall. Others may disagree, of course. Barker was superb because he was so suave and smooth, but he also reflected his billing as "Star of The Price is Right". Carey projects the image of being the "host" of an exciting experience both for the contestants and the audience in the studio and at home, while the contestants are the stars. By the way, whoever the host/star of whatever game or quiz show, this is an extremely difficult job, and particularly for shows like TPIR or Let's Make a Deal, where there isn't much time for contestant coordinators to screen the contestants who sit in the audience. The hosts don't quite know what they are going to get and have to keep the show rolling however the contestant reacts, whatever they do.
He told the Producers of this show NO many times. Then one day a producer asked him at lunch what made him happy, and Drew said it was giving a big to the waiter. The Producer said that it is what TPIR is all about and that was that.
She did work, by far the best anyone has played that game. Drew's reaction is priceless. Ya know, when they first picked him to host the show I thought it was a dumb idea. "Drew Carrey? For real?" But now, I can't think of a better person they could have picked. He's the best.
I love this! It's always so good to see when the host gets so excited for the contestant when this kind of thing happens. They absolutely made the right choice choosing Drew Carey!
bob got excited when people won big. drew goes absolutely NUTS for it. that's exactly why he's perfect for the show. he loses his mind every time someone wins big, and its so wholesome.

Good one! I'm getting tired of these jealous people stating that she only has $700K after taxes. That's still a lot of money and only took her 8 seconds, no one would turn that down.
Good for her, (for real.) That being said, Drew deserves some kind of award for the work he does during this situation. The way HE reacts is PRICELESS. Get it? Because someone just won all that money??? Way to go Drew! And way to lose all that weight! Good on ya.
I’ve watched this a few times and I have to say while Drew was not my favorite at first, he certainly got happier and more energetic. Him and Bob both do good for this show for different reasons and I think this clip gives a good indication of how Drew would turn out to current time.
Sometimes, I question whether or not the producers/executives want to see people when big. Take the game "time is money," for example; it's damn near impossible to win it outright, as it's only happened a handful of times and most of the time, contestants aren't able to rearrange the grocery items on the pads/platforms before the clock runs out during the second go around. It's absolutely depressing to watch because nine times out of 10, you know it's gonna be a loss.
+Joann Smith How is it sad? Every other form of income is taxed. And game show prize money has a pretty unbalanced effort/income ratio, so why shouldn't they take more?
They didn't win anything, if CBS hadn't given that money away they would have been taxed for it. The IRS probably gained some money on this but it's only because CBS and their higher-ups probably use loopholes and offshore accounts to pay a lower effective tax than Cynthia
Good guy Drew is pleasant. But no Game Show host. Barker was miles better, polished & souped up the drama like no other in the medium. It's not even close

Never be replicated, unless they do it again. 😂 I'm guessing the global financial crisis in 2008 put the kybosh on the $1 million prizes. They probably won't be doing it anytime soon either.
