Karnataka was and is also there on the Bharatha natya scene
Hoysala queen Shanthale was an expert in BharathaNatyam Afterall Bharatha Natya dance postures are best depicted in Kannada Hoysala Temples at Belur and Halebeedu
Again it was the Kannada Origin Vijayanagara empire which revived Bharataha Natyam when Tamil culture was almost extinguished by the Madurai Sultans Read about you Kannada Prince Kumara Kampana and how he rescued Madurai and Madurai Meenakshi temple from Sultan atrocities
Read about Kannada Saint Purandara Dasa originator of Karnatic music which is used in Bahrathanatyam today
Read about Kannada Wodeayr Kings of Mysoire and the patronage given by them to Bhaaratha Natyam dancers in their rich prosperous and peaceful Kingdom when other areas of India were in turmoil

How magnificent is this performance. For more than 40 years I have loved Dravidian Dance: the form, the sway, the mudras; but, THIS video is the first time I experienced the HUMOR! Truly, the LEELAH or the Delight of Dance. So delicate are these two devis of Dance. Thank you 😊

It’s Indian dance from the south. Not Dravidian. Dravidian is not a race. Genetically all those in India are of one race. Dravida word is used geographically to refer to the land where three oceans meet. It’s Sanskrit word and used first by Adi Shankaracharya nearly 2500 years ago.

Beautiful treat for the eyes. Thank you Harinie and Shoba ma'am.
Being layman in this field but yet an avid Rasika, I could spot a few obvious differences in the two beautiful art forms.
The dress styles. Bharatam seems to have more form fitting costume. Kuchipudi has a much more space in the lower pyjamas (dunno the name).
The hairstyle. Bharatam has the long plait tied up in the oddiyanam (waist belt). A Kuchipudi dancer wears a bun.
The fluidity in movements. Bharatam has much more rigid and controlled movements. Kuchipudi movements seem more free, and rapid.
The bhava itself. In Bharatam I can sense a dominant ghambeeryam (majesty). In Kuchipudi, I can sense a dominant lasyam (gracefulness). Though both dancers are really adept in portraying all bhavas.
Can anyone clarify the subtler differences to me and others?

      @vigneshnehru9822 2 роки тому +4

Kuchipudi dancers braid their hair differently, the jada is not tied with the ottiyanam and they wear their hair in the Tribhuvana hairstyle- one long bun at the top and two smaller ones near the plait, representing the three worlds, the repertoire is much more masculine as it was originally performed by men dressed in drag and made plays regarding mythology

    • @vigneshnehru9822

Also Kuchipudi was performed by taking inspiration from Andhra Natyam, a 2000 year old temple dance tradition performed by devdasis who sang and danced at the same time. It's notorious for having many similarities to Bharatnatyam, even more so than kuchipudi. It was even called the same name Dasi attam just like Bharatnatyam, probably due to spread of Bharatnatyam during Chola dynasty from Tamilnadu to moderate day Andhrapradesh, Telangana, Odisha aand some parts of Bengal

      @infinite5795 Рік тому +1

@@vigneshnehru9822 Odissi didn't originate from Bharatnatyam duh, rather Kuchipudi seems to have some influence from Bharatnatyam and Odissi, due to Andhra land being primarily under Cholas or Gajapatis historically, with a brief Kakatiya/Reddy rule maybe.

kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam are my favorite dance forms and I've not seen anyone perform both of the forms with perfection to the beats and with great timing. I feel satisfied and inspired with all the performances I've seen so far and this is one of my favorite. Both Smt.sobha ma'am and harinie akka is unbelievably graceful.

I'm from Taiwan and this is just so beautiful! Love how it compares the two dances perfectly. In a sense they are very similar (from the naive perspective of someone outside of India of course :P) but they're also so different. Love the fierce and symmetric movements of Bharathanatyam and the lively but still controlled style of Kuchipudi.

Totally loved these , as being north indian we are not exposed to bharatham , kuchipudi but when i started watching these dance forms randomly on youtube i got addicted to it and somehow it created a lot of interest in me to know more and more about the south indian culture as i think that these are our real religious treasure and unfortunetly in north india, people dont care about it but very happy to see that in south india people are still connected to our roots very well, i have seen many more videos of respected sheela mam that how she teaches the little girl students how they perform and very impressed with these art form and i wish one day i could vist there and could get to meet sheela mam and other aluminies like respected shobha ji , harinee ji and can see them perform live.
    Lots of respect 🙏🙏🙏🙏

      Kannada Dynasties protected South India
Firstly as far back as 638 AD Kannada Chalukya Emperor Vikramaditya II defeated the Ummayud arabs who tried to enter South India after easy victories in Sindh and Punjab The arabs completely gave up their south indian plans after their comprehensive defeat This is a significant epoch in indian history where an indian kingdom defeats a world conquering Ummayud arab army But All India based text books written by North favouring text book authors hide this fact in textbools
After few centuries later when North was fully under invasions and foriegn rule the King responsible for preservation of Sanatan Culture in south is Kannada Hoysala Dynasty King Veera Ballala III
He is not represented in Dellhi origin All India prescribed text books so that let alone North Indians even Kannadigas have forgotten him
It is only Mughals Sulktans and a sprinkling of Rajputs in text books
The Delhi Khilji war machine easily routed central inidan kings and the Yadava .kings of Vidharbha were defeated and they became vassals of Khiljis The Andhra King of Kakatiya dynasty was captured but he committed suicide wile being dragged on to Delhi
But when Khilji army came further south Hoysala Brave Veera Ballal III gave the toughest battle to the delhi army and the stalemate went on for three decadesTte Kannda king protected many temples in his native karnataka but also in Telugu and Tamil Nadu Notable being the protection given to Tiruvannamalai temple when the Sultans attacked Even today special prayers are held in that Tamil Temple for the Kannada King
When Veera Ballala III ultimately lost he was flayed alive by the khilji army But hius faith ful army commanders Hariyappa and Bukkappa along with financial help from the late Veera Ballala wife and under the spiritual guidance of Saint Vidyaranya formed the first Indian dynasty specifically meant for Hindu protection, The Vijaynagara Empire
This empire stood like a bulwark againsdt foriegn rule for 360 years Actually Vijaynagar empire was larger and richer than Mughal empire and lasted longer than Mughal empire When Babar sat on the throne at Delhi Vijaynagar was at its peak with its greatest emperor Krishnadevaraya at the throne Babur knew about the Vijaynagar army strength of 10 lakhs The Vijaynagar king had Portugese trained army and a powerful navy with 100 ports on both coasts of India Babar cleverly avoided irritating the south emperor Though Kannada in origin the Vijaynagar Kings encouraged Telugu and Tamil litrerature dance arts culture etc
The Mysore wodeyars were the continuation of vijaynagar empire and continued along same line for another 350 years encouraging arts culture literature of all south indian cultures
Kannada origin Sena dynasty ruled Bengal for 250 years
Kannad origin Mithila dynasty ruled Bihar Nepal
Kannad origin Nanya Deva is Nepalks most famous King
      Seunas of Devagiri were Kannadigas
Vengi Chalukya of Andhra were Kannadigas
Kongu Nad areas of Tamil nad was ruled by Kannadigas
Goa was ruled by Kannada Kadamba dynasty for 450 years
Kannada origin Shilahara Dynasty built Mumbai Kolhapur
Even Shivaji Maharaj has Kannada roots His ancestors were from Gadag in Karnataka Shivaji spent his childhoood in Bangalore He was influenced by the events of Vijaynagar empire Shivaji MAaharaj family name Bhosale is similar to the Royal Hoysale dynasty of Karnataka
Kannada peoples stellar role in Indian history is the most neglected and underated one
Todays south india is reflecting what was shaped by Vijaynagar empire

Sheela Unni's Sridevi Nrithyalaya ... I am also a bharatnatyam visharad but watching your videos inspires me to learn more....make myself more nice and graceful..still I think I don’t have proper angsuddhi... is there any way I can get your guidance....I can contact you directly?
