Youre really a life saver, i’m actually crying because of corona my engineering and design class has gotten more difficult, the chrome books from our school don’t let us use solid works ( which is what i’m used to) and this tutorial is really gonna save my life and my grade and your voice really calmed me down, thank you
This is exactly what I was looking for. The music even put my mind which was previously stressed out at ease and helped make this all seem easy. Thanks for creating this - super helpful!
That's simple but one of the best tutorial. Just exactly what I needed to get started since I have no idea how to use this. I am still debating with myself whether to use the website one or download the free one. Since I'm still beginner, I'll keep my hands off from the pro one for now. 😆
I too have been intimidated by 3D applications and I am in the I.T. field but wow you really made this easy. I am so motivated to continue only doing things I have dreamed of doing. Goodbye paper drawings and hello Sketch Up. Thanks Aaron. You are the man!!! :-)
A good introduction to some basics & how to quickly draw something recognizable without being at all concerned about the precise sizes of things being drawn The powerful precision details can come later.
Hi aaron, thanks for the tutorial. I know there is a lot of tutorial videos of sketchup out there, but you are the best one so far. You explain it moderately fast, not so fast and not too slow either. Good Job!!
Something I find helpful when drawing my own lines and changing the lengths of things is changing the unit of precision to 0, instead of 0.00 or 0.0. This way it's easier to edit two lines to make them the same length, etc. I wish SketchUp free could change units of precision for drawing lines.
What’s the easiest way to turn a 2d blueprint into a 3d model? I love this tool and your tutorial, it’s just difficult for me to understand once you make it 3d, is there a way to make the outer walls transparent so you can look into the house and work on the interior? I want to make my house to scale but having a hard time working on the interior after making all the walls 3d.
If you look at my subsequent videos, I solved this problem in a different way. I made drawings corresponding to each one of the rooms of my house separate from the exterior model. This works really well for a couple of reasons. First, like you I want to see the interior in addition to the outside. Second, at least for me, as I add more detail to my drawings the bigger they become and SketchUp acts a little sluggish. Third, I don't want to put all my eggs in single basket. If I screw up or lose a drawing, I don't want to lose all my work. So it is really nice to keep each room in its own file and separate from the exterior. I think I also have a video where I pulled the individual rooms together as imports into a larger drawing.
I'm pretty comfortable using what used to be ProEngineer and more recently AutoCAD, and I found this video to be very helpful in learning the basics of a new modeling program.
I don't know if you can change in the middle of a drawing. If I go to "home" and click on "create new", I get a pull down menu to choose the template with the dimensions/units that I want to use.
Could anyone tell me if this is a good one to use for designing interior including the furniture etc.? Or what's the best one for beginners that I could use?
Nice video and presentation but, I was just wondering why you uploaded in 720p instead of 1080p? After all, in 2018 the defacto standard for HD was 1080p and now your video is a little soft on an ultra HD monitor. Otherwise, great job.
That's a good question. I got the music from the UA-cam Creator Studio free audio library. I am usually pretty good about putting it in the music credits in the video info, but must have forgot for this video.
This really helped me in creating stuff. At the beggining I did not know what to do but after watching your video I got the point of SketchUp. Thank you.
I cannot do the roof thing idk why I ve been trying to do the same but when I press that push up button it doesn't work :( and it doesn't show the midpoint
Are you sure you used the right button? I accidently choose the wrong one but when I went back to see what was wrong that's when I realized I was using the wrong button
Thank you for the video, I was lost before. I do have a question or two, can you remove an entire window after it has been saved or you have moved on to something else like a door. Might be a stupid question and one I can figure out by myself with a little practice and experimenting. Either way thanks for the video!
Yeah, I didn't want to go overboard and overwhelm people that are just starting. I have a series of videos that go a little more in-depth: ua-cam.com/video/IjivhrlzC-U/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/Nz1imWN3SNc/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/1Bp5xyHe_k4/v-deo.html
I can see why they did this, but it's harder to use you can't find certain things very easy like the 3d wearhouseand the measurement system seems to have changed.
if anyone sees this ....i've lost all materials...and the only thing i can get now are materials ''for helen''.....obviously there's something wrong with side browser;;;;...everything else is there but all materials and textures have gone.....
Click to get to the "Home" screen. (In a drawing, click the upper right hand menu icon.) There is a Create New button with a little down arrow next to it. If you click the arrow on the Create New button there is a menu that will show up and allow you to choose different units.
I am not sure what you mean. You can change the perspective with the movie icon in the tray of tools on the right hand side. However, if you want something like a traditional engineering drawing showing the 3 traditional views, then check out the instructions here: forums.sketchup.com/t/3d-to-all-2d-view/9438/4
@@AaronKennedy I think Doug Webb may have seen another tutorial video which basically says you should always start with a 2-D template, and goes into a lot of detail about that. Which is frustrating if you then try and do it in the current version of Sketchup Free, because it doesn't seem to have that option at all.
@@gubelandassociatesinc.8780 In that case, the simplest way may be to simply delete one of the roof sections so you can see inside it. I am still meaning to model my actual house someday...

The worse thing about this is the lack of hot keys. I cant stand going to the tool bar and searching for every step of a drawing. There isn't even a way to expand them so you can see them all at once. Thus us a major oversight.
When I heard the really sketchy mic, I actually breathed a sigh of relief and knew this video was gonna be competent

There is a warehouse where you can pull in things made by others.
