I'm a 71 year old grandma of 5 who has been using Fusion 360 for the last year for free for 3D printing and have got on really well for the simple projects I have done. However, being a law abiding citizen, I would feel guilty if I used a different name etc to sign up for another free year and I certainly can't afford a paid subscription. So I've been looking for another free software package to produce 3d models for 3D printing. This is the first tutorial I have come across which has simple, easy to understand instructions. I have learnt more in this tutorial than in all the others I've looked at. Thank you so much. I'll keep viewing.
to create simple structures, a better solution than "Sketchup" is 3D. "Design Spark Mechanical" is an even better program than "Fusion 360" and it is a free program.
I learned how to use SketchUp 2 years ago thanks to your tutorials and I made few good projects. But, then I stopped drawing for a while and now here we go watching your incredible and easy to understand tutorial again. Lol
Excellent! Get two monitors, put this video on one, and Sketchup on the other and slowly go through the video while you mimic in Sketchup what he is saying. He goes slow enough to allow you to catch what he is teaching. His instructions are very very clear.
I got a good feel for the basic concepts and techniques used by sketchup. I get the navigation and tool selection as well. Your video is very comfortably paced and easily understood. I look forward to the next lesson.
I have 0 experience with 3D modeling & sketch-up. Your tutorial is clear & easy to understand. I'm about to watch your next video on how to model a house. Thank you!
I had watched many videos before. But that did not clear my doubts.your videos are much clear and more informative.keep teaching like this.best wishes.love from india
Justin! Good job! 5 stars for being a good teacher. Tip I just realized for anyone new: using "Sketchup For Web"`... The PC control(s) to scale the tool menus (with all your tools) is same as zooming any web page, which is control+mouse-wheel.. this tip took me over an hour to figure out, because I trusted the official website to help me. (bad move). The official "Sketchup For Web" help tutorial says start here: if you want "Sketchup For Web" tips.. and a few words later ... begins using hotkeys for "Sketchup Pro" which dont exist in "Sketchup For Web". Funny, right? So I was going in circles until I found this video with Justin!...
This has helped massively in getting me started, 1 question that might be ahead of the tutorials but i want to know this is going to work before investing too much time and then having to stop. I fabricate a lot of things from box section steel, can i have layers so i can see the front back etc separately and then create cutting list from the design? Also applies to woodworking, i want to design and make a custom racking system for my garage, can i make a cut sheet from the design. Thanks
This is really good. I mean really good. It gets you started to go away and practice. From this its surprising how much else you pick up from these few tips. Thank you, keep up the good work
@@Thesketchupessentials I needed a simple 2D CAD program. (Like Autocad, but cheap) I was going to help my wife with her quilting pattern layouts. I have been using Autocad at work since 1996 and Inventor since it was released. It's not a fair comparison, but I was hoping for something simple that I could do 2D arrays with.
@@Thesketchupessentials Yes, just like that, but I need it to stay an array so I can go back and modify it. Autocad creates an array, but when you double click on it you can change the array values as often as you like. It also arrays in two directions. I appreciate your help. It's just not a good fit for what I need.
Great Tutorial; thank you very much. As good as you would find on any paid course. (I've done a lot of paid courses on various programs. This is right up there with the best of them.)
9:54 you mention not to click and hold when drawing a line because you then can’t input a value. Well, you can. Once you let go of the mouse button just start typing and will input your measurement. FWIW.
Whoa crazy - I did not know that. There's still multiple reasons not to click and drag (inferencing, etc), BUT that's a feature I wasn't aware was there.
@@Thesketchupessentials thanks for replying and confirming that I’m not going mad. I’m relearning sketchup as I recently bought a 3d printer. Maybe you can help but I’m really struggling to create a simple rectangle with a rectangle shaped hole cutout of it in the centre. I thought I could draw each rectangle and align them on the X and Y axis before extruding them. I can’t find how to do it other than drawing guides lines, but surely an align function would be easy and a fundamental feature?
Excellent videos. It's very frustrating to learn but slowly getting there. Is there a way of sharing my 3D design with people? I've been looking and can't seem to work out how you can get your architect, builder etc to see your walk-through designs.
elaborate but crystal clear thanks dude, I have a question im learing Sketchup as a process engineer for my resume, what do you suggest ? I have heard sth 3skeng, would you recommend it or anything else ? ( basics would be enough for me i reckon)
Thanks for the tutorials. This is my first time trying to use Sketchup Free and your explanations were easy to follow. My only issue from the start is that I have no colors on my axes - they are all black, and the lines I draw trying to align with the axes are black - no color at all. Is this a glitch or something that I can change within the program?
How do you get rid of the woman? Seems dorky. My attempts to use this and plug in lengths doesn't work. I find all the icons tedious and cumbersome. All I really want to do to start is draw 2D stud walls to provide new window placement and framing diagram, an elevation view. Then tie together in floor plans. I can worry about 3D later. Anyone know how Cedreo compares? Thanks.
I've been using the app for a while now and I much more prefer the old version. I drew a 2 x 10 and sketchup doesn't let me make a hole that goes all the way through. If the free version is supposed to make me want to spend money on the pro version, it's not gonna happen.
