Least Bittern Vocalizing

- While exploring a beautiful spot in Florida's Mallory Swamp I heard several Least Bitterns vocalizing rather quietly. One seemed reasonably close and in fact climbed the reeds within just feet of where I stood. I'm grateful for that bird's patience and persistence as a very cooperative subject!
Love when it looks like o^o
They really built like 😮 sometimes when they open their beak and stare.
A world without birds would sound like night time
The chorus of birdsong adds a truly glorious dimension to the beauty of nature, in my view. (And so I'm grateful too for the owls and all the nightjars and such.)
I have a mockingbird in a neighboring tree singing a Carolina Wren song in the middle of night. For real!
I love these birds ngl, they look absolutely goofy 💀
Glad you like them too.

It was so interesting seeing the close=up of the bird's throat when it vocalized. Great video
Thank you, Frances! I was glad the video does let us see the movement that goes with its vocalization.
Great video! I’ve never seen a least bittern and have only seen an American bittern once down in the Viera Wetlands. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for liking it, Ellen!
Такая красивая птица, ....а звуки ....если бы услышал в природе, то подумал бы что это лягушка....
Thanks, I'm glad you find these birds beautiful too. For a long time I had wondered at the source of that call, and was glad when I finally learned its source.
Fantastically crisp video

Thank you very much! It's a cool vocalization and even better seeing the movement involved just makes it richer to me.
