I was looking to buy a quail a few years ago but clicked off in horror when one of the only two 5 star reviews said "my dog ripped out his plume" lmfao. I couldn't risk it
I've seen these guys all the way in Utah and we call them "ding-a-ling" birds because they boop around when they walk and they always seem to walk instead of fly and it's adorable!
They're very adorable, albeit a little annoying if you have a backyard garden like we do😂. But we see them all the time spring and summer. Very fun watching them raise their litte ones😊
All over Arizona. Here called the Gambel's quail. It's fun to watch them. The male and female mate for life. Last pair with young in my front yard had ten young following them around. Groups of them will fly up into a tree and it sounds like WWIII Quail edition. The males have brown on them like this one while the females are all grey colored.
Quail are excellent at pest control. I lived in a house with a huge backyard that was part of their morning/evening stroll. We never saw any nasty bugs around the house.
To have the privilege of seeing a colony of these, which we call "Who who-whos" because of their call, come into our backyard and feast on bird seed is incredible.
i used to have one that would sleep on its side nestled into me 😭❤️ i always thought birds slept w their feet tucked under them and i looked it up and i guess she really trusted me
My wee quail is the same 🥰 Whenever she is feeling cuddly, she walks over to me and gently pecks my slipper 3-4 times. I go down to her lever, put my hand on the floor and she walks on to it. I pick her up, walk around with her and give her cuddles. I love it when she does that 🥰 I have a wee blanket for her next to my desk, and when she is done hiding, exploring, pecking, bathing, looking at herself in the mirror, eating and pooping, she comes for a nap right next to me, as I work. I can never get enough of watching her sleep during the day. At night, she sleeps like a normal chicken 😁 During the day, she gets herself all splayed out on her side, with her wee legs stretched out. She looks like a super comfy roadkill 😄 I love that chicken so much 😁
I love these. There's a ton of them on my property. There is a large wild rose bush that some barberry bushes have grown into and it's created a perfect little home for them lol
Arizona chiming in and we've been feeding our quail for over thirty years and have seen generations and generations. The little ping pong ball sized baby's are so beautiful. They love the spaghetti leftover noodles and we make sure they have plenty of water and seeds. He's a handsome fella
I am a Californian and when I was lucky enough to visit North Island for several months in 2012 I was astonished to see our beloved native state bird all over the place 😂 It was an unexpected glimpse of home. It's a bummer outside species have been introduced to your precious, unique ecosystem but if it had to be any species it's hard to find any more charismatic than the California Quail ❤
It almost came to blows with this guy in our neighborhood because I slammed on my brakes to let this ADORABLE mama quail and her 4 baby chicks in a waddling in a straight row behind her cross the street! Awwwww- 🥰 the guy behind me had to slam his brakes not to hit me though as he was tailing me. 🤬😤
These are cute birds. They are all over where I live and typically I see them in couples or in small groups. A few years ago I happened to notice one peaking out of a bush. Then he ran back in. Then he peaked out again. I kept my distance but watched. Then I saw several really tiny ones behind him in the bush along with another adult. It was a new family! They eventually all ran from that bush over to another one. It was a neat thing to see.
I can't help but thinking about those old cartoons where it shows the real reason they whistle it's because they're trying to blow that thing in their face away.
These are all over the desert where I live (Victor Valley, CA), often in our yards. I've always thought they look like they are on wheels, the way they run....
I used to hunt basically everything in my state. Bobwhites are fun to hunt...dogs find them, they loudly rocket out of the grass, and are difficult to hit. It was a nice, if destructive challenge. Bobwhites have a delicious sweet and light poultry flavor. Similar to chicken, but way better. At one point a few years back, hatched out a brood of them. Got really attached to one male (Bob), who was a pet. They're really cute and gentle, just like the Cali, in the video....
He's so ROUND 🥺
An absolute rotund specimen
The body is round
@@TheAlchemist1089His little legs aren’t designed for distance.

Nope. Gambel’s quail is a different species, albeit very similar.
What a sweetie pie! 🥰🥰
He looks so sophisticated with that curled plume on his head. 🧐🧐
They are quintessentially the 1920s flappers of birds
@@nacht_owl You are right, what a great observation! 🤩🤩

Are they like guinea fowl in a way? Will they go after ticks?
@@mitchellulrich930 I’m sure they would. I never saw any ticks where I lived and we did a lot of gardening
