Beautiful woodcock hops to the hospital and home again!

- Woodcocks are an unusual patient here at the Wildlife Aid hospital, so our vets Emma and Maru were quite impressed by this lovely bird. It was brought in after flying into a window, but luckily Emma and Maru found nothing wrong with it (apart from a likely headache!). After a few days rest at the hospital to monitor it, Simon was able to release the woodcock in an ideal location, where it seemed more than happy to hop off into its new home!

Love how nonchalantly it just walks out of the cage and into the bush, like it just got out of a taxi
it's not only Wild Life Aid, it's also Wild Life Uber 😉
Lilithia Abendstern lol! exactly
Why would the chicken cross the road when he could just get a lift from this dude
Not really.. he walks into a bush like every other bird..
Yes exactly! Those instincts kick in and he is at home!!!
That bird looks like a big version of a humming bird
"Your Hummingbird has evolved!"
Lol
low budget kiwi
It looks like a pigeon and a humming bird at the same time to me.
Ye
The majestic swiggity swooty birb
ah man I'm embarrassed how hard I laughed at this
Swiggity swooty gotta get that booty
I always think of the bowerbird instead.
So thats what its called. I never seen this bird before and when I saw the video pic I thought it was a giant humming bird 🤷♂️😁
I love that it's called a woodcock
I never realized these funky birbs were so big. I only ever saw them strutting their funky stuff down the road but never seen them held by human hands before.
Are you American? If you so guys have another woodcock species - somewhat smaller in length with a lovely buff-coloured underside
My thoughts exactly 😂
Wonder if they taste like chicken ?
@@mr.turbo_boost3383
I wonder if I will ever see a lovely video about an innocent beautiful animal without some D-head troll in the comment section going on about wanting to kill and eat it, or how they already have and how “tasty” they are.

In Europe a lot of countries use German name Waldschnep for the local spiecies. They are pretty famous (they were considered a delicacy in the past) but I also never seen one till recently.

I don’t even want to think about Woodchucks

Out. Get out.

Poor birb
Nobody can say its name without giggling 😂🤣
its other name isnt any less funny either - timberdoodle!!!!
You do realize the word "cock" first described male birds, then it was appropriated as a verb for their motion such as when a puppy cocks their head, and then vulgarly because of how early they rise and sing their territorial war cries? From peacocks to cockerels to the woodcock and beyond, their name isn't the funny bit, and I'd wager anyone who has decided the word "cock" is exclusively vulgar simply isn't educated enough. Yes words can be funny, but by laughing about it you're essentially being that person who reposts memes that the person in it asked to please stop... like Star Wars kid. You're just bullying everyone at that point.
@@Undomaranel Sheesh, man, who hurt you?
I'm pretty sure people over the age of 12 can... However, I'm also pretty sure nobody can help but laugh at the bouncing woodcocks - and if you don't know what that is, look it up on YT.
Well, here in the US, we have a bird called the Hairy Woodpecker. I am almost 100% certain Mark Twain had a say in naming it.
We've got American woodcocks here in the marshlands around Chicago and they migrate throughout the area. Found one that had flown into a window and was wombling around dazed on a busy downtown sidewalk. We have a bird rescue group here that regularly patrols the downtown area looking for birds injured like this (as you can imagine, there are many - lots of tall glass buildings), so I gave them a call and they took him off for rehab. They are lovely birds!
Thank you for doing that. I’m in Chicago too and have had them pick up a young Sora Rail I found in my alley one night sitting under a street lamp. I also rescued a Redstart sitting dazed outside of my office building. They do wonderful work. Even though the city tries to cut down on light pollution so the birds can migrate through, the glass building still cause a lot of injuries and deaths.
How can you take that name serioisly?
Oh god, the one time I visited Chicago was only for 2 days, and I saw multiple birds that had hit skyscraper windows. Only one was still alive (a brown creeper) and I scooped it up, carried it away from the busy sidewalk and road, and brought it to a park. Chicago is cool, but the bird situation is depressing.
@@Sleipnirseight - Yeah, those all-glass skyscrapers are killers. On the other hand, though, we have a lot of dedicated parklands throughout the city that are natural bird 'resorts,' and a naturalized foot/bikepath that follows along the Chicago River almost from downtown, out to the Western suburbs, on which Bald Eagles (!) have recently been spotted diving for fish!! (They migrate thru this area these days, and some have established themselves in the forest preserves a bit south from the city center.)
Lots of hawks and falcons that live in the city, too. I've watched multiple generations of a hawk family nest in some trees two houses down from my 3rd floor apartment balcony...so much fun to see them come back year after year. Keeps the rodent and pigeon population down, too.
You can always tell when and where a raptor has been hunting...you'll be walking along and suddenly you notice a thick trail of feathers scattered through the grass.
The ones nesting near me will frequently take a moment to strip their catch while sitting on top of the telephone pole out back, right at eye-level from my back porch, before bringing it back to the nest for the young 'uns. A bit gruesome, but such is nature, and the babies gotta eat!
rehab . Funny

Aww poor baby 🥺 What a cutie 🥹😭
That is significantly bigger than I thought they were. I don't know where my expectations come from on that.
I mean, finches and tits are tiny and woodcocks are similarly round, so...
I love these hilarious birds. They're also called "timberdoodles" among other funny names.
This is what I want to do as a career.
Noble career. Doesn't pay enough. It's a shame :(
Pretend that you are a bird that has hit on a window?I am already there, doing it all the time. Doesn't pay well.
People like this never do it for the money. They do it because their hearts are flowing over with love.
@@azurehue2248 ..Meanwhile normal vets get payed insane amounts of money and don't give two fucks about animals, for example vets in us still declaw last I heard, they should be fucking HUNG.

THE MAJESTIC ECH BIRD
I've just discovered these birds and I'm in love
Wow, I didnt realize how big they are😮😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
This is going to sound horrible, but I didn't know Woodcocks were so big!!!! I have seen videos of them and their cute little calls and I just assumed they were like, the size of a fricking Conure or something. Aaaaaaaaaa one of the best birds just got better!
That bird is so cute. Isn't that the species that does this funny walk while foraging for food. This wobbly step then swing down two three times before taking another step?
I’ve seen the silly woodcock walk videos. Didn’t know until now how big they were. Bigger than i thought. Cute adorable birds.
And the bird thinks:"Ha! You think I will beautifully fly towards the camera but NO. I will not play along with you humans." And there he hops away xD
Wow - I didn’t realize how big they actually are but then I didn’t know these wonderful crazy creatures existed until a few days ago.
And again he started his unique dance steps 😄😄
It's the majectic WoodEch!
This bird experienced the equivalent of a human being abducted by aliens.
' hops to the hospital and home again '
That bird's luckier than most people.
Oh, my darling. Hope you are okay, okay? Love you!
Beautiful bird seeing it up close. ❤
We had one of these decide to take a migration break and chill out in our backyard for a few hours once!

Beautiful bird! So cool to see wildlife being cared for and returned to their natural home!

I appreciate the hasty but businesslike manner with which he got out of that kennel
These birds have the misfortune to be a prized shotgun target.I think the small size and flying speed somehow makes up for a deficit in the shooters erm.....Anyway lovely to see one so close up and getting another chance at life.
+RefiaPhenix Where do you live? It sounds like a nice country. Over here in America, birds like that are also a popular game bird sadly, quail are a favorite too. Isn't it enough that hunters already have a goddamn GUN on their side, do they really have to make it as easy as possible?
Over here they even put them into *fenced* areas, clip their wings, and then people pay money to have the easiest, most unfair game of hunting ever. You may or may not remember (I don't know how much this was in the news internationally) when Dubya was president, vice president Cheney was involved in a scandal after he _shot his friend in the face_ at one of those places. After it happened, I bought a t-shirt that says "I survived quail hunting with Dick Cheney". So many people asked me about it, especially other kids who weren't aware of the incident, and the mockery continued. Got kinda off topic.
+Shirley Yes, although they're small birds, i've never hunted them, but from what i know they're hard to hunt since they prefer thick wooded areas, and have excellent camouflage.
I was shocked to recently discover this while researching for more information about this beautifully quirky bird. I just don't understand why anyone would want to shoot them. Makes me very sad. Great to see one being released I agree.
plus they attack other birds nest & eat the chick brain like zombie forget about that one Huh!. lol
@J Ancel Inhumane!
Twice in all my years, I've had a Woodcock doing its silly walk on my front lawn. I felt so honored to see one so close. I keep hoping for another visitation.😂😊❤
