    I bought an tan label 1973 FG-160 a month ago for under $200 to clean up and resell but had to keep it after I played it for awhile. Now it’s the only acoustic I want to play of the 3 I have. There’s no way for anyone to know how incredible they sound in person. No video can do them justice. I’ve never heard anything like it and I’ve played many. These old Yamaha’s are special.

    Nice. I bought mine new for £55 at a Birmingham guitar shop in about 1974….a lot for me at the time. For the past 19 years it’s been with me up a Spanish mountain and gets played every day. Sounds better than ever….especially when I can be bothered to put new strings on (it’s a pain….). It doesn’t owe me much though 👍🍷.

    AMAZING guitar. I have one that belonged to my grandfather. The absolute best sound ever. I'm considering buying a second to add pickups.

    First off , great playing. I picked up the same guitar after lusting for one for a year or so. It's such a beast! It's still sustaining after I put it down! And the rich lows are truly outrageous! I was playing all the big names at guitar shop one day and thought " what the hell ,I'll play this shitty old Yamaha" Fg 330 from the 70s and the love affair started. I'll never give mine up! Love from the US

    Yes I have an 72 tan label nippon gaki fg 160, had to lower action sanded bridge and saddle down as much as i could.
    Didn't need a neck reset...
    I play in pub sessions here in Ireland, i swear to god I've seen Taylors and Martins worth 2000 euro and more and it cuts
    through them all. It projects very well and has a lovely tone, they are also a loud guitar if strummed hard. You got a steal at 100 euro they now go from 300 up to 500 on ebay.
    I will never sell it and it now is my go to guitar. They are all Laminate, but Ymaha used tonewoods in the laminate and really manufactured them well.
    Maybe all solids have different qualitys but I just don't know because this is my go to guitar, its dinged and scratched but I just don't care its the sound..
    lucky to get a lefty mate.... Nice one

    Yes indeed they are sooo good, I just brought an FG 180, STUNNING sound for a Laminate top acoustic, so I researched how Yamaha made them and Now I understand, thanks for the video 😂😂😂

    😅I can't hear the buzz, they sound awesome, as any of the Yamaha Acoustic's, I just recently brought an L series Yamaha, oh wow What a sound, it had some damage, fixed it, and it plays sweet, good video, many thanks 😊😊😊

    Nut by the head stock, saddle on the bridge. But yeah. I have one and I love it. And a 160 too, and love it.

    Awesome vintage FG, and it's older than you I'd imagine! Would've loved to have seen a photo of the soundhole label...does it say "Republic of China Made in Taiwan" or just "Made in Taiwan" ?

      @rowanellis8259  2 роки тому

      Taiwan brother! I've kept this one, and will forever. I guess the other one you commented on wasn't a 160

    The Yamaha FG160 - 1 was made between 1974 and 1977. It can't be a 1987 model.

      Good to know. I recall reading a serial decode list somewhere online, some Yamaha forum. Looked like an 87 to me, will keep digging

    I inherited this guitar from my grandmother. How do you string this guitar up with those slotted tuners? It is so frustrating. Do you have a video on how you do it?

    • @rowanellis8259
      @rowanellis8259  2 роки тому

      Good question! You basically just slot them in and start turning.... That's all I do. Keep the pressure on, don't let the string get loose once it's hooked on. And only give it enough slack for one or two full loops around the tuner head

    Mine is the black label hand signed made in the USA. How do I tell what year it was made?

    • @rowanellis8259
      @rowanellis8259  2 роки тому

      Wow made in USA! There's a few vintage sites that can help you with that. Try yamahavintagefg.com/yamaha-fg-serial-numbers-interior-markings-and-labels-1966-to-1981/
