- Nicki Minaj negatively speaking on American Idol: Season 12, Wednsday 27th February, 2013's episode about Trinidad, West Indies, her home land where she was born and raised.
I don't own the rights to this video.
This video is blocked in the US only.
there's not a single person who hasn't said something bad about their homeland. No place is perfect.
I u never been to Trinidad carnival time bun alyuh yes
@@thaisvalley9483 😂🇹🇹
The problem is that she left Trinidad when she was 5. So that picture she painted was horrible inaccurate
Fun fact...the comment above was left by someone who is not a trini and has never been to Trinidad 🤡...plz stfu if u wanna defend her speak on something else leave my island alone...talking like u know the place 😒
Sames
She's not speaking bad about Trinidad she's just saying coming from a third world country where the way of life is much more harder and rough to where they are now Is a blessing. Any Guyanese or Trinidadian could ask their parents why they came to the United States and they'll tell you it's because they wanted to make better life for us as children so we wouldn't have to go through the hardships they went through growing up.
Kevin Sammy I do believe every parents, in every country want that for their kids.
Trinidad isn't a third world country its top 10 or 15 richest Caribbean countries
@KadeemLiburd girl this was 10 years ago not you replying like shit ain't change 😂😂
there's not a single person who hasn't said something bad about their homeland. No place is perfect. what she said was absolutely NOT negative just reality.
Yes preach it
Home girl leave 2 comments talkin d same shit yes 🤡
Madame Maharaj left Trinidad when she was 5, she wasn't raised here or educated here. As every country in the world Trinidad is not with its faults but I don't think anyone is afraid of not getting out ofTrinidad alive, this is an Island paradise not a warzone. I am very proud to be Trinidadian and there are no limits to how high I can progress in my country. I really hope I am taking this out of context and she didn't actually mean get out alive.
+Blaine Andrews totally agreed
Exactly
You got that right we not a warzone!!!
She shitting diamonds and forgetting people from "1st class countries " is save money for 2 to 3 years to come Trinidad and Tobago for a month i rock backand relax
I dont even wanna live here anymore lmao
For the record .. I am Trini and I love my country..I totally agree Trini is not without its flaws .. and she did try to make out Trini like a warzone.. aint sure she was guna make it out alive.. but maybe her perception is based on her 5 year old opinion and her tough times with her family and not truly representative of the beautiful place I LOVE TO CALL HOME.... TRINI TO DE BONEE!!!!!
Its a good place but has serious drug and violence problems especially with the youth but that's not stemming from the people it's stemming from gangs especially in places like Bosnia
Trinidad not trini.Trini is what we refer ourselves as,it's not the country.
+sheronn gopaul Well said !
Pretty Good wtf where's Bosnia
especially when she was fucking living in st.jamee if she wah see hard times she shoulda live in laventille cuz them ppl does be struggling steups
Trinidad is a paradise, same shit a celebrity tries to make it look like they came from such slums and went to the top. Like up if you a trini and agree. # REP
***** i agree with you.
Except Trinidad isn't poor. lol. Many Trinidadians may be but that's only because the money isn't distributed very much.
***** Actually, I was born and lived in Trinidad for the first five years of my life, and have spent the past 15 years in England and Trinidad is not as bad as people make it out to be. They make it seem as if you can't leave the house without someone trying to kill you! That is untrue, and it is an amazing island.
Every time I have visited Trinidad I've had a lovely time (and surprise surprise, I was not murdered, did not get into a car accident and didnt get HIV!).
I actually hope to move back there once I'm finished university. Just because a country isn't as developed as say, America or the UK, doesn't make it horrible. People need to stop making it out like first world countries are some great thing. They aren't. If I had had the choice when I was younger, I would have loved to have stayed in Trinidad.
(Don't get me wrong, England is amazing and I have met many lovely people and been to great places but Trinidad is amazing as well).
***** I'm not going to deny that Trinidad has a problem with crime. Both my cousin and uncle were murdered on seperate occasions. This was due to the people they decided to associate themselves with and the areas they live.
I'm not saying Trinidad is paradise. I said it was a lovely place. When I visited I've stayed at various places, Biche, Sangre grande and POS to name a few and I can tell you that my family who lived there felt completely safe. They went out when they pleased and felt safe.
I know there are bad places. And I know that the crime rates are absurd. I just don't like when people make the country seem like hell. It puts people off from visiting there and just gives the country a bad reputation. I know it isn't the best place in the world, but it doesn't deserve for people to only look at the bad sides. Maybe I am blinded because it is home for me. Every time I go back I see my family and even the atmosphere feels welcoming. Sorry for not wanting people to think my country is rubbish.
Also, thank you for that uneducated comment. That was very nice of you. I'm not going to stand here and insult you because that would get us nowhere. I know the statistics. I'm just giving you my opinion based on my own experience.
the hell im from Trinidad and Tobago im from caroni don't get it twisted
I'm from Trinidad. It is beautiful, some parts is a slum. Murder rate go up every year. She right
She didn't say anything bad! I'm Trinidadian, I go there every summer. All she means is that Trinidad is not the largest, most successful country in the world. It's a third world country and 50% of the time you might see someone make it out big from there. Nicki and this singer on American Idol here represent their homelands in a way where others can understand that it's difficult to rise from what these places have to offer but they do it anyway. Trinidad is a great island and I love it with all my heart. I'm sure Nicki does as well. She expresses herself in many ways and I'm sure she has not forgotten where she originally came from.
50%? more like 10%
americans have a higher chance of being famous
where's the negative part? cause I heard nothing negative here.
+Ree that's not negative, she's just stating facts.
True she's stating the facts because I went to Trinidad for 3 years and I didn't hear anything wrong...
Exactly subtitles misleading
She isn't talking negatively she is speaking the harsh reality of what goes on in Trinidad. There is a lot of talent here and they sweep them under the rug until that person leaves and is recognized internationally then Trinidad all of a sudden want to claim that person as a trini. Like a child that throws a toy aside until another child plays with it then they run claiming the toy as theirs. Nikki didn't lie this is truth
I'm a Trinidadian and I heard she was talking about how hard her family life was and not everyone /everything is perfect
where did she talk negatively about her homeland?. The title of this video is messed up, you put that so more people can view the video. .
she wasn't being negative
thank u she was telling the truth
She was...Trinidad is sooo nice and yeah u know normal someone get kills u know and it is not the truth before u say it is the truth visit and then judge!
she wasn't speaking negatively.....she was just letting the lady know that not everyone can make it a far as they can
@Koriander Yander if you didn't grow up in Trinidad it's best you just stfu
To me she was not speaking negative
I don't think so either...I'm so glad we agree because she totally was not 100% so all them haters just trying 2 be mean and make her feel bad.All of her haters must don't have a life at all like she does so(2 haters)quit trying 2 b someone your not b happy with who u r because she's out doing thinks she has never done before witch is amazing 2 her so quit hating ON HER
Maybe it wasn't negative but it was definitely outta timin speed talk.
@Koriander Yander I doubt we should even claim her as Trini
And after 8 years, she again congratulated the Jamaican and not the Trini Olympics representative. She really hates Trinis.
I'm a Trini and I live happy in my country, won't leave Trinidad to live anywhere else in the world
It's not negative. You can live in the USA and still speak this way because it's not all green grass everywhere. Somepoeole have it hard, some has smooth sailing.
she maybe from lavantille haha
HAHA
hahahahahaha lol
D Raja l haha truuuu
D Raja l no she is from Port Of Spain
😂😂
She feel Trini is Iraq awah
lmao ikr
lol she is so fake she doesnt even know her country darn pretender
tbh she's just stating facts because if she did ever stay in Trinidad and persue a career in Trinidad as a hip hop artists she would of been a nobody right now
She should not talk about it like it's some war zone it's a good place .. talking about being lucky to make it out alive makes us look bad
Ded lmaoooo
She speaks the truth I'm from trinidad I don't think I'll make it out alive in trinidad...
She speaks about my country like if it’s in a war Trinidad is a beautiful diverse place people watching would think not to come here for vacations and by extension lower of tourism industry our second highest mean of income and with the price of oil dropping she should be a shame .She could never be a Trinidadian with that outlandish mindset
Yes I agree🇹🇹
Na she on real shit. "From a country where you didn't think you would make it out alive" bitch please you left here when you were 5. Trinidad is not perfect but that comment is misleading. She so wants to relate to that woman that she trying to make.it sounds like she knows what it like to come from a.country of war
she wasnt in trinidad for a very long time so she shouldnt talk about a beautiful island like that trinidad all the way
Why compare Trinidad with Liberia? Nicki left Trinidad to go to New York with her mother. She made it sound like a war torn country. Always gaslighting it.
that is just disgusting how she would talk about her own homeland like that, Trinidad is not a bad country and what she said is wrong
i agree as well
But how long did she live in Trinidad? Does she travel there often to visit her family?
I thought she came to N.Y. when she was small ......
hmmmm... also, Trinidad is one of the caricom islands with the STRONGEST ECONOMIES ...along with Barbados and a few others. Although crime and poverty are everywhere , there other caricom islands
who are worse off than Trinidad....
She left here when she was 5 years old
All because Trinidad has a strong economy doesn't mean SHIT I hope you notice she grew up with family issues like an addict abusive father that hit her mother before.. Right? And you over here talking about the economy...Girl. That doesn't mean she grew up in a fucking mansion, Trinidad may have a good economy but it still has poverty.
despite having a deceptively productive economy, Trinidad and Tobago suffers from a high level of poverty.
@@kerchow2062 get ur facts right ,trinidad is one of the richest islands in the caribbean
@@trkeasynewgenbot1877 Nigga I KNOW but that doesn't mean everyone there lives a life of luxury, T&T has a high economy but also a high level of poverty. And Nicki Minaj grew up in a poor family with an abusive father, your the one who needs to get their facts straight.
I am a Trini and I love my country 😇
I think that was basically everyone's reaction, including mine when I saw it on local news Thursday 28th February...
She is staying facts, I am from trinidad and it's not all cupcakes and rainbows
I support nicki, she spoke the truth Trinidad has no future what’s so ever so thank you nicki for being that voice for me
Hello as of writing this my name is none yuh business, the date is August 26 2022 and it is 3:47 AM. The current state of Trinidad and Tobago is a hell hole..literally we have no good PM in power, crime is rising, inflation rising too and overall there’s nothing left in Trinidad anymore. Y’all can go ahead and attack me as much as you want but just remember we have people in power that literally hold press conferences to speak about how they were horned ☠️
She did not say anything bad about Trinidad(which is where I'm from) .....she was just trying to emphasise that she wasn't expecting to become so famous, coming from a small country like ours
Really.... that is what you interpreted from "we came from a country where we didn't think we would make it out alive"??
Because many sane thinking individuals would interpret that as meaning Trinidad is a place of extreme violence where the people live constantly in fear of being killed.
but I love Trinidad 💟💟💟💟💙💙💙💙
Wait make it out alive there has never been a war here in Trinidad but like all countries there is still some crime
Urvi Ramadhar me too
i mean i am a trini
Cause I am from Trinidad and I know for sure that it is better than American
Oracle Mansingh NAh budday
despite having a deceptively productive economy, Trinidad and Tobago suffers from a high level of poverty.
Nicki left Trinidad at 5 years old and grew up in Jamaica Queens NY. She wanna talk about making it out alive in Trinidad when niqqa's are killed in Queens single everyday ?
Firstmost i agree with all of yall about how dumb Nicki sounded for this but people are not killed in Queens everyday. This ain't the 90s, lets not lie now. Queens ain't Chicago or St Louis.
Her parents sent for her when she was five to have a better life and she also said in an interview that when she got to America it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies so I really don’t see anything bad in what she said
Nicki has never said anything wrong about her country, Trinidad. What she said was not negative. She was only speaking from her own experience. She did not have it easy growing up neither here nor there. ✅
I'm from Trinidad and Tobago🇹🇹
me too
I'm from trinidad too she speaks the true
She didn’t say anything bad,she is right because crime in Trinidad is horrible ,it’s a scary place to live ,I live here and have already lost 2 family members to gun violence
I thought I was the only Trinidadian
It's so nice to see 👀 there are more Trinitarian here😀😀😀😀
On east coast loaded
She didn't say anything negative about the country. She inferred that in her native country she wouldn't have a shot to fame, as she does here. You people need to calm down.
i was referring to nicki minaj, not the contestant.
She didn’t say anything bad about Trinidad stop the drama.
getting a bit carried away. she most likely was talking about getting out of the situation she was in while she lived here because her father abuse her mother as well as burned down their hose. Everything is not a attack on the country
leh she haul she mudda cont
haha
Jerome Thackoordeen haha
Jerome Thackoordeen she dosent have time for people live yall so un educated an foolish
@@asagonzales6947 uneducated wii well i dead with dah one ..... watch u sayin dosent ....nahhh ... no disrespect ...but come nahh....i iz a trini so if yuh want to know how i soundin like this ... NO DISRESPECT OKK ... PLEASE DO NOT HIT MEH UP ... I DO NOT WANT ANY NOTIFICATIONS
True trini response 🤣🤣🤣
SHE IS NOT BAD TALKING HER COUNTRY ...LISTEN TO HER CAREFULLY ...NIKI LOVES HER PEOPLE AN HER COUNTRY ..LOVE LOVE LOVE .......HE COUNTRY ......
I am a Trini and trinidad is a paradise
I is a trini and no it ain't
I am a Trinidadian but she should not make it sound so its not everyone here like that so I dont get why we said "Nothing" but she also has a point it cant give us what we wants when it comes to a career like Rapper or pop singer or R&B singer but still ... its a beautiful place and like every country there is a bad and a good side
Lol. The title of this video is such a reach. Ya tried!!
Trini's as usual just hear a piece of something and blow it out of proportion allyuh does make so damn shame, not an ounce of support from her own homeland what allyuh don't know is that she always speaks highly of trinidad, if you follow her career instead yall stall from afar and hate. If yall still can't get what she meant, she isn't comparing trini to liberia but making a comparison to the fact that she
didn't have anything and came to america and made it. Making it out alive was not said in the context of trinidad being a bad place but that it the place where she struggled
Trinidadians has been showing her support from day one and then she makes it seem as if her country is a warzone. It may have been a misunderstanding but she needs to choose her words carefully. No everyone is like you to analyze her words.
@@aviannadeonarine1278 she honestly might've been talking about her family situation in Trinidad and the way she was living there
Trinidad does have some poor slums area. She isn't speaking negatively. I mean, her real cred comes from being raised in South-side Jamaica Queens.
She was 5 years old!!! What does she know!!!
i am from trinidad and she can't talk about her homeland like that #not cool
People are misinterpreting what she said. Third-world countries in general have higher crime rates than first-world countries, due to the higher corruption caused by poverty. This is true for many third-world countries, whether in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, or Latin America.
what d hell she talking about Trinidad is Paradise,if u have nothing good to say shut up ok,cause I'm a trini
I'm a Trini and to me that was very disrespectful. With she unreal butt
if you think she wasn't just talking the truth u must be livin hilton or something cuz not everywhere is sunshine and rainbows.
Same here very disrespectful I don't consider her to be a Trinidadian.
Is the negative part in the room with us? Lol, this caption is so misleading. I understood what she meant, Trinidad is small. Most people leave to go to the US for more opportunities. I mean, she could've left out the "make it out alive" part, but I understood. And she's speaking from her own experience.
She right it does not matter tho
This isnt speaking negatively, not everyone is born into this world knowing we're gonna make it doing whatever it is we have to do and she wasn't always famous and rich
She did not talk negatively about trini 🙄 y’all just want clout. We have many disadvantages in the Caribbean and some islands have more than others; not because we have sunny weather, beautiful beaches and very beautiful people means we come from a place where we have it all and Nicki stated that “coming from nothing” I’m from and still live in the Turks ands Caicos Islands and so i know what she means... we don’t have many disadvantages but we for sure do not have much advantages as the United States and some other foreign countries but all i know that we are equally blessed.
look at u talking bout Trini and that is exacting who you are and where your from and cause of Trini's u made it we had ur support and never lost it u to ungrateful
Sonia Lashley PREEECH
She got famous because she pursued success outside of Trinidad, if she never left then she wouldn't be where she is now
Who from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹🇹🇹 iam
Me🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
I won't use the term make it out alive because is na like we in a war zone
look trinidad is my home land and i not shamed to say it , but apparently she is.
She was talking about Jamaica because she never really spend much time here in Trinidad and Trinidad is nothing like what she said two
That's not speaking negatively about where she's from. She's stating a fact.
+Danaija Robinson But she's gone back to Trinidad, she has family in Trinidad. She's not talking shit, she's talking facts. I came out of Puerto Rico at a young age but I know and I see on the news and hear from my family that's still over there what it's like and what is going on. So yes, she knows how it is over there...
Little Miss 787 she used to live in the freaking capital she is talking shit u are not from trinidad so stop talking about what u dont know
+Aurora Peterson actually i am from trinidad and its shit
@@chicalanzo99411 well you need to freaking understand that she made it out to seem that it's a warzone when it's not. Clearly if she insinuates that Trinidad is a warzone, she doesn't know a damn thing!
@@henrimaitrejean4881 wait, you from Trinidad and you say it's shit? Well if you think that, get out of d damn country! Nobody forcing you to live in we country! If yuh have ah problem wid d island, leave!
I am half trini and my mom told me a lot of stories about their she used to say how she didnt have much had sugar and water to drink and ate chicken fat because she didnt have the money. But what im trying to say is that Trinidad may be one of the richest island in the Caribbean but she jaf a tough life and she didn't have much ether
She was talking about her circumstances not her country
trinidad is far more easy to live than the states, she should watch her words
Dummies she is talking about Trinidad. And for your information she wasn't talking bad. Some parts on Trinidad is poor. And she happened to lived there.
Nicki was born in Trinidad, her home land. NOW WHO IS THE DUMMY?
samoya pounall u not from trinidad!!!!!!!!!!! so take your time, sayin part trinidad poor how u know part ah trinidad , that is wen u outterr timeing!!!!!!!!!!
She was born in St.James and left when she was 5, the trauma she faced was because of an abusive Father not the country. Trinidad is quite developed.
Hi, Trini here, St. James, Trinidad is nowhere near “absolutely nothing” where “she won’t make it out alive”. She was buggin for that
I RMR THISSSS OMG ESPECIALLY YHE YOU LOST WEIGHT OMGGG but is it just 20 or late 20 or early 21 OMG BRUHHHH THAT TIME PERIOD IS LITERALLY HEAVENNNN SOS OMGGG
I'm from trinidad and i didn't feel offendin by anything she said
TO ALL YOU FOLKS SAYING SHE MEANT SHE CAME FROM NOTHING WATCH OVER THE VID SHE SAID SHE WAS GLAD TO MAKE IT OUT ALIVE LIKE GEEZE?
Up to now I haven't heard nicki say anything negative...Trinidad and Tobago is a beautiful country ...it's certain people that spoiling the place...with the killing and petty crime...born and raise in laventille ..I can say if I was there still I don't know where I might have end up ...with that being said I will alway love Trinidad and Tobago
..and I absolutely agree with Nicki..
Trinidad is rough she ain't lying
I was born in the us. but decided to stay trini ever since. She talking facts in the states u could reach someway.
She is not speaking negatively. Yes Trinidad is a beautiful country but experiences shape the individual and to her, what she faced while living there was different from others. Personal views count.
Bruh she said nothing negative. She spoke the truth cuz for us down here in the Caribbean, It's hard for us to follow our dreams, because if I go to a label and an American Citizen goes to a label for a deal there is a high chance that they will get it and I'm not being racist but it really is hard for us down here so stfu
she didn't say anything that is not true. I'm from tinidad and Tobago and thats how i feel
Then Leave, nobody's forcing you to stay. Unlike Iraq, we have free will and rights. You can leave anytime you want and that's what you're ungrateful for...
Trini is beautiful but there's more to the country than just beaches and carnival there's a lot of crime and a lot of drug trafficking..nice areas and rough areas, nothing wrong with what she said.
Ummm... she has done more to promote our country than a lot of the people that hate her for this. a more people know of Trinidad because of her. What's wrong if she feels like she may not have made it out alive...?
1 have you heard her story?
2. She was trying to inspire the competitor... see the bigger picture.
3. Trinidadians SHOW very little appreciation for their artists if they don't sing wind and jam... it's changing slowly though. and I'm glad about that!
she is telling the truth ppl lets all face it
Trinidad is something I'm still alive
Ok Ms. Machel Minaj, that's my bad and it's "Beautiful Sinner", since you really want to correct people. You sound like a Nicki Minaj fanatic and not a level headed person so I don't know why I am going to reply to you but I will. I and the majority of people don't really listen to her music because it makes no sense at all or like her because she's very clueless and ignorant. Her hit songs she never mentioned TrinBago, that's the point I was making
You can be in a decent Neighborhood and still be strugerling trust me but it does not mean that she was dirt poor her mom just wanted a better life for her family it,s the same as rihanna it don,t have to many people who came from the caribbean and cross over to american music i mean it have a few so i guess that,s how she is looking at it for her to come to america and made it as big as she is its a big thing to her the only island you will really hear anyone making it big is jamaica .
I am trini too....and I feel the same way....just she said instead...so Nick said nothing negative.... ohh hell we're a friking dot on the world map!!
there was nothing negative all she said was "we people who cam from small countries and never taught dat would make it big" dat i not negative
she said make it out alive
She was poor when she was living in Trinidad and she was talking about how it was hard for HER to survive, not EVERYONE that lives in Trinidad!!
Her dad did drugs, so her situation in Trinidad was bad. I dont think she was bashing Trinidad as much as referencing her home situation. And when you are young, your family is your whole world. BUT its certainly not my view of Trinidad and will, unfortunately, give people who hear her comments a bad view of Trinidad.
Boss, I think it's clear that she was also referring to Trinidad and Tobago also. Don't even try to debate that our your intelligence will be questioned. I bet she can't tell you a few historical facts about her "homeland". She's a yank and Americans are universally known for their ignorance. Nothing new here folks so no need to get upset...
Smh daz d country yuh born and grow in you ain't have no shame 😑 yuh better dan dat nicki dho shame trinidad so😐
Please ask my favorite artists l love her so much and her music I wish I an meet her😢😢😢
I'm so glad that most of the Trinidadians in the U.S and in the Islands were she comes from agree with her because I'm not even a Trinidadian and I believe her
I'm african/Jamaican
+Destini Truitt
What she said was CRAP and
I know many Trinidadians who would beg to differ with her! she only lived there until she was 5!
Trinidad is way more advanced than Jamaica, they have a better economy, and I'm Jamaican!! She could give her island a little more credit.
Wow am not a trindian but am a black American / trindian my whole family but yes I agree she was five yrs old landed in New York and what do she knows pls correct me but granny told me a lot about T&T and I wish I was there or send my children learn the hard way........
I'm Trinidadian too
did she really talk trash about my country Trinidad
Niki is so fake here. Child please. And no tears girl.
This title definitely needs to be changed this is so misleading… YALL wanna put negativity on Nicki so bad ! These were words of encouragement! I am from Baltimore and I would literally say the same thing we have a chance to rise from our conditions and the norms the struggle of our everyday lives and experiences! This isn’t negative but wanting more for self. Also remember she went back spoke to her people and DONATED money and TIME PEACE 🙏🏾
Well at least Trinidad is'nt like not a place in the world because nicki minaj brought the fama for every other country]
By make it out alive she meant being stuck there til she was old and die there. She wanted bigger and better but didnt think it would happen
nope that isn't what she meant
Real talk tho, the level of success she probably would get in Trinidad fails in comparison to where she is now
