    omg! I am so excited to watch your vlog. I'm also planning to go to med school as an internationally educated nurse!
    quick questions,
    #1. Did you take all the pre-med class in the U.S?
    #2. You have your BSN degree in Cebu, right?
    #3. which med school are you attending?
    (if it's personal information, you do not need to answer it!)
    thanks🥰

      Hi! I’m taking up medicine at Cebu Institute of Medicine in the Philippines, so my pre-med classes are simply the ones I took when I was a nursing student. :) So yep, I got my BSN degree in Cebu, worked in the US for a bit, then due to circumstances came back to the Philippines and started school. 😊

      Hi!! being a nurse really helped my interest in health care grow and I decided I wanted to give medicine a try so that I wouldn’t have any regrets. :) Med school in the Philippines was an option for me because I took the NMAT (PH medical admissions test) before I graduated nursing school, so I just wanted to give it a shot!

      @@IoneNicole Ohh thats interesting! :) I'm currently enrolled in an accelerated program on licensed vocational nursing and it's so hard. Can you give out study tips? :) I personally struggle a lot and like I have breakdowns very often because of school. It's really hard and it always feel like theres no hope. Though seeing your progress and journey really inspires me. ❤

    • @IoneNicole
      @IoneNicole  3 роки тому

      @@cigarettesinmypocket3982 I believe in you!! For nursing study tips, I really recommend watching youtube videos while you read from your assigned textbooks to help you grasp the concept! I love the Simple Nursing youtube channel :) For coping with failed tests, I always allow myself time to be sad and cry, but then you gotta pick yourself up after and try again. So yes youre allowed to feel down, definitely let all those emotions out, and then take a deep breath and keep moving forward. Then for all nighter tips, I’m not too much of a coffee drinker but I will drink things that taste good to keep me awake! And I use the pomodoro method where I take frequent breaks so I don’t burn out. Be sure to take a nap, even an hour or two, if you need!

      Hii! It’s an app called Things 3! ☺️ It’s a paid app but it goes on sale from time to time and I find it really useful for lists. But a free alternative I also like is Notion! 😊

    Hi Ione! Question from a fellow RN with US citizenship going through the application process, did you have trouble getting a job as a new grad with no experience?

    • @IoneNicole
      @IoneNicole  3 роки тому

      Hi! I actually didn’t have any trouble at all - I applied to jobs that specifically said they were open to new grads, and it worked out! 😊

      Now more than ever, there's shortage of bedside nurses with covid, mandatory vaccinations, and compensation for travel nursing. Everyone's leaving bedside, others are travel nursing.

    I saw your video that you were a working as an rn before in US, and now going for md degree.
    Can I ask if you are able to work as a MD in US also after finishing med school in Philippines? If so, do you have to take usmle step 1 and step 2 exam prior to residency in US (if they do accept philippine medical graduates)?
    I kinda heard it's near impossible to get residency in US as a ph grad since US medical graduates are already competing for those spots and some have to reapply for next opening which even creates more competition, hence, leaving foreign med students little to no residency positions. And usmle has a very different way of questioning topics which ph med students find very hard.
    Or do you just plan to live and work in Philippines as a doctor? Your insights would be very much appreciated!

      But it's weird how I see plenty of mbbs graduates from India if that is the case with foreign graduates. So i don't know why I haven't seen any Filipino MD practicing here who graduated in Philippines. Yet I know plenty of filipino nurses with MD degree from Philippines, with work experience, fellowship,, and specialization like being an ENT doctor back home.

    • @IoneNicole
      @IoneNicole  3 роки тому +1

      Hi! It is definitely possible to work in the US after med school abroad. Yes, you do have to go through the USMLE steps plus some additional paperwork as an international medical graduate (IMG) and statistics may seem discouraging but it’s not impossible. ☺️ IMGs have to work harder for their spots but it just goes to show why those who make it into the US are exceptional doctors, especially the Filipinos! So that is my plan as of now but I’ll see where the next few years will take me. 😊

      @@vosk6481 there are lots of Filipinos practicing as MD in USA, esp hawaii and california. With regards to the MDs who had specialization way back home in the Philippines and opt not to pursue usmle due to various reasons: i.e. it's more practical to be an RN rather than taking the usmle route due to age (after specialization most likely 35 years old and above) and the gap from graduation in medschool, and most often than not, they already have a family to feed.
      Filipino MDs who take the usmle route, most of them are fresh grads, and young. :)

      @@kangterry9913 In my experience, and based on the experiences of my peers, no there’s not really a difference. As long as you have a BSN degree and have had your transcripts evaluated by an accrediting body, all foreign nursing graduates are pretty much at equal standing. :)
