I really enjoyed the events from the Branch & Claw expansion. I felt like the game somehow became easier for me! In a way that it became more convenient to play. Previously I often found myself stuck with analysis paralysis trying to calculate the perfect turn! And I haven’t experienced that after adding the B&C. The game is much more enjoyable for me now!
The main thing I can think of is that without the B&C cards, particularly the power, event, and maybe blight cards, there are fewer ways to interact with the B&C tokens compared to how JE is designed to interact with them. There are likely other, deeper balancing decisions made that are beyond my depth to perceive as well, but the token issue stuck out to me.
Suberp review, very well done. Honestly the only thing I don't agree on is you saying it's great at 1-6. Maybe when it comes to co-op games, but that's still a big stretch. Anything over 3 I would say is viable. Unless you are a very niche group. There are many games I would pick over Spirit island at those player counts. At 5-6 I would probably recommend to split up in 2 groups.
I also HIGHLY recommend getting both Promo Packs 1 & 2, with Branch & Claw and Jagged Earth, IF you like the base game. If you don’t like the base game enough, I would pass on all of the expansions.
I totally agree. I've only managed to get my hands on promo pack 2 so far, but the Spirits and cards it came with are great and match the rest of the game really well. I'm looking forward to a time when I can pick up promo pack 1 for Slumbering Serpent and Wildfire.
Ever since they introduced the way to play without events, I've stopped using events and never looked back. The game is way better without them. A 10 + without events, maybe an 7 with them.
I enjoy playing with them, but I'm very glad they introduced alternate ways to play without them for folks who don't enjoy them. That way everyone wins.

Why is it incomplete without B&C
