Mad Chef this is splattercat, remember? He sees nothing, builds walls where he doesn’t need them in the moment...if you want to see good gameplay your are definitely wrong here. But he’s entertaining, so there’s that..😉👍
@@erebostd Was kind of wondering about that too, shouldnt he just be walling the important stuff and then claim more land around it like a normal medieval castle would?
Ah man is it nice to see you posted. Watching this from the hospital now. Got in a serious accident tonight, my car is totalled and I'm hurt bad. Glad to pop this on and forget for a minute. Youre awesome man
Well. Not really. Northgard isn't some forerunner that established the genre, and pretty much used elements from other games in its foundation. I can personally see features from The Settlers and Stronghold series in this game, which are way older than Northgard.
I'm curious how it works to capture beyond your walls, and whether you can stagger layered walls or not. Seemed like that only went on outer borders when he first started building them.
I used to watch your videos all the time! Guess the algorithm decided I shouldn't anymore, or something like that. I guess I totally forgot about your channel. But just now you popped into my feed again. And man! Kinda feels like meeting an old friend you haven't talked to in forever. Great stuff man, love it!
Really like the game so far! Bravo devs!!! :) The waves could come at a higher interval of time, with less enemies per wave, just so that you could also enjoy the town building mechanic as well, otherwise it's all just a rush to defend against and defeat the next wave.
Foundation is a cool castle building game. It’s still in early release so it’s light but the mods give the game a bigger depth and the ability to build big castles. The only ting is that there is no raids or things that attack you.
Man, they sure put a lot of work into this Rampart remake, I'm impressed! It's an arcade game from 1990, and had an honest to Bushnell trackball controller.
Love the graphics. One thing i would like to see in this games is specialization. Being able to assign specific people people to do one specific job and they would speciliz and produce more of that product but the down side being they can't be assigned to another job.
Looks like a fun game already, at the crossroad of many games, for the better I think. I hope you'll come back to it often, and that it'll have many more cool features like the wall side flipping thing, it's a good sign for its future :)
How fascinating to hear of your Scottish herratige McSplatty. You may poach our livestock, but you will never take our FREEDOMS!! I live in Newcastle England, which isn't all that far south of the Scottish Borders. I could cross into the Bonnie-lands with an hours drive. Beautiful country, but cold weather this end of the year.
Archers targets picking AI needs some serious improvements. Entire wall of archers shooting into one almost dead soldier while enemy archers shooting at them seems rather unreasonable.
Not sure if possible but limiting the number of units that can attack the same target might spread out the damage, or limit the number of units that can target the same enemy depending on the number of enemies in range, the more enemies there are the more spread the damage is, but that would need to be balanced too or it would be a bunch of 1vs1 fights, so also limiting the spread, like trying to get a min of 3 or 2 units vs 1 enemy (like enemies having a limit of slots for units that can attack them and once they start attacking the enemy units are locked on it until it's dead or the player issues a different command, if more player units are in range and also more enemy units are in range , once the slots are filled the rest of the player units change to a different target to fill the slots and then the next and so on, and if there are fewer enemy units that unlock a few more slots so you don't have troops waiting, i guess this can also be translated easier in % of units that can attack an enemy, 1 enemy, 100%, 2 enemies, 50% and 50% and split in % according to the numbers of units and enemies but not go under a certain% / enemy) at , that would probably take a lot of programming and testing to make it work. P.S. Just thought about this, it can also be improved by giving the player the possibility to set a target priority in a window, like focus healers or archers or melee, cavalry, etc, and if you want to go full customization, a window like that for each unit type like archers focusing x unit first melee focusing another unit type, this would probably increase development time tho.
The artstyle reminds me of the older The Settler Games, dont know why its different. And i like it. It has potential for the "Wusel"factor.(kinda like cute but chaotic, when watching the settlers do there work)
the evolution of splat military tactics. phase one CHARGE, phase 2 more soldiers surround them to hack them to pieces, phase 3 form a line and archers from range, phase 4 get some walls, archers, on the walls shoot them down soldiers in front of the wall bait them, phase 5 I wonder if I can put soldiers on the wall to bait the enemy while keeping them defended.
cant wait for the ful release i hope they make enough money with the initial release that they can make some add ons for gameplay and what not, but this already looks really promising
ah yes another indie sandbox castle/village building with an defense mechanic that is of course in early access. If I were to take a shot each time I hear that line I'd die
Having a lake inside acstle means having to surround a lot of unusable space, which means more walls, which means you need more people to def3nd the castle. This also means you need more space to store those soldiers and their food. I would stick with wells if i were you
a fun thing the game doesnt tell you is having a builders house and a minimum of 2 builders helps cause if all your villagers are busy doing there jobs they wont build structures
in a game called becastled he plays remarkably poorly for half an hour but after a lot of pointless struggling he finally has a bit of decent defence going on and can finally show off a cool battle stomping on the invaders and ... ends the video.
@Rusty Kinks if it's a livestream I can kinda have some understanding as your attention is split between the game and your viewers but this is just a recording ...
Looks very much like Northgard even down to how you purchase adjoining areas and how each area is its own in terms of hunting and chopping wood etc. Only real difference are nightly attacks which is similar to the sidescrolling Kingdoms games and there doesn't seem to be a limit on how much you can build in an area.
The pig you saw spawn just before the 8 minute mark where you didn't see it was added to your tally, was probably eaten right away which is why you didn't see it added, maybe?
Interesting. The early game seems to look and play quite a lot like Northgard.. almost disturbingly alike. But I can see they added a fair bit to differentiate their game from it and other RTS-ish builders.
A multiplayer would be awesome, so if the developers are reading this, ik my comment is late but you should def put in co-op or multiplayer on full release and ill buy it for any price
There is the potential of being an "evil" Lord i think... Those mindless peasants already seem to be under some sort of enchantment making them mindless drones, look at their faces! Maybe you could build a black castle with skulls and spikes!
also noticed at 30:57 you accidently kited every single moon archer shot and they missed. lol not sure if that's all luck. seems like a fun little game. will definitely be looking into this. thanks for the playthrough!
The game did show you the number of idle villagers - check the tiny icon in the bottom left of the screen :)

This looks super solid, has good potential for expanding the game, and the genre / style is definitely right in my alley. Awesome!
Even better: you can make castles all on the same world and fight and defend from eachother
I LOVE that you can flip walls around post-construction. OMG I wish more games had that option.
Why does it even need it? It pretty clear which way the wall needs to face. It's not like those were inner walls.
Ah man is it nice to see you posted. Watching this from the hospital now. Got in a serious accident tonight, my car is totalled and I'm hurt bad. Glad to pop this on and forget for a minute. Youre awesome man
I'm getting old skool Settler vibes from this and that anit no bad thing.
This looks like one of those "shut up and take my money" games I'm going to love.
This is a good game! Id love to see more when it develops some more or just another one of you getting further into the game.
With that being said you have the best profile icon of anyone else commenting on this video hahaha R.I.P Mitch
Takes a lot of inspiration from Northgard it seems.
I was going to say "Castle Story", but yeah, I can see similarities with Northgard.

@@11darklight11 Fair point, I just picked Northgard cause even the Ui looks the same but worse.
@@Liltenhead I'm pretty sure the UI is just a placeholder at this stage of the game
@@11darklight11 I'd imagine it is.
Your goodwill concerning the wall swap and why it means something is wonderful. :D
I know you do a lot of one offs but this would be cool to see another episode or two. Want to see the walls really go up around your kingdom
I'm curious how it works to capture beyond your walls, and whether you can stagger layered walls or not. Seemed like that only went on outer borders when he first started building them.
I'm also really curious how this looks once you've got your walls built and want to expand.

Build concentrically. Circles within circles of walls
Archers targets picking AI needs some serious improvements. Entire wall of archers shooting into one almost dead soldier while enemy archers shooting at them seems rather unreasonable.
I think its the basic proximity based AI, i didn't see any special intelligent moves on any of the characters
