oh dang, this would absolutely finalize me and my roommate's home studio. we're building and putting up acoustic treatment this weekend and trying to get the space up and running. we each have usb interfaces that we work on and have been contemplating what the next step would be equipment wise - something with enough inputs for the whole band! our goal is to do everything in house by ourselves - write, record, mix, etc... this would be an incredible addition to what we have because it would allow us to actually start the process.

this would be huge for me now that i needed to move my parents in with me. the quality of the bass DI is a big one for me. that Silk circuit essentially gives the sound of my youth, when all the music i heard (forgive me) felt like a warm hug to the senses. i love the sound of old electronics, Warren. i still have a console stereo with a reel to reel with 2 magic eye top tube as stereo VUs. i would make use of it in my studio immediately

The red sounded more modern to me. No doubt the blue was tasty biscuits. But the red was like gluten free tasty biscuits. Yeah, not as satisfying ..but not going to bloat your mix up either. If you used the blue on full on everything, you'd spend the next week digging low mid out of your mix. 😉 And loudness normalization murders you for low mid. I can see the blue working well for vocals and featured instruments with the red on everything else. Having the blue for signal instrument productions like piano ballads would be gold. To be able to add that extra weight would bring the production up several rungs of the ladder. ☺ v. Cool video! Thanks as always!

I'm using Steinberg Cubase from the beginning, around 1989 if I"m correct. Started on a Atari computer. Now after all these years I use Cubase 10 pro and the Steinberg UR44. Very happy with it cause it sound great but I think my productions would be even better if I could use the new AXR4 :))

    Hi, Warren!
I`m a Construction manager and I write songs from my family, friends (have more than 300), I play the guitar. I learn to mixing music from Dave Pensado, Chris Lord-Alge, Bobby Owsinski, David Glenn, Greg Ondo, Ryan West, Warren Huart :) and others.
My DAW is Steinberg Cubase 9.5 and digital interface is Steinberg UR22 mk II.
It's fantastic with DSP mixer and Latency-free monitoring, and everything else (thanks for the presentation).
I think AXR4 would be a great help in recording the songs I created.

I started working in a musical instrument store in '87 when I was 17. Even then being a simple minded teenager that only wanted to know about Marshalls and Charvel Jacksons. Steinberg was the name that only the musicians in the know used back then.If you were having conversations involving Steinberg you were somebody.

    Hello Warren great video,
The AXR4 would help me out massively right now, I accidentally plugged the power supply for my GAP pre73 (24v) into my Presonus Studio 192 and fired the unit. I am using my M audio 2x2 right now, but with only the two inputs it has sucked the life out of my studio. The MXR4 would supercharge my studio and creative process with all the routing options and Neve style pres.
Thanks for all the hard work on your videos and knowledge you share with the community I know I have benefited greatly from your videos, give a ways are just the icing on the cake.

Hello Warren, I absolutely love your tutorials and they've helped me a lot in my production. Im a 16 year old jazz producer and i usually find the need to record guitars, but i am using a $30 interface the behringer UM2. The problem is that it gives me a loud hissing sound and its very bad quality. This interface would also help me record my band with my friends and would be really fun to use. I have no clue on how to use the modes you have talked about but I am eager to learn. Hope you’re doing marvelously well! - Syed

So ive been kinda searching for the" hidden secret" to mainstream professional sound and ive tried everything from eq tips and compression stuff to mid side, and panning but i really think the secret is reverb. I think the pros effortlessly add reverb and dont realize the impact bcuz its just something they do. So if you guys @producelikeapro could spend some time on this it would be super appropriated

If 24b/192k is considered "HD audio", then what would you call 32b/384k? "Insane HD"? Steinberg is definitely ahead in the game here. Hopefully, computing power and storage capabilities can catch up to it soon.
I can't hear the name Steinberg without thinking of Mr. Steinberg, the frog-voiced cantor who was one of my teachers at Hebrew school those many years ago. He used to make cassettes of himself singing for us to practice our haftorahs to. I wonder how he'd sound singing through this AXR4.

    Yandex translator:
Pure preamp on voice 11:31, red preamp 11:40, blue preamp 11:47. The pure preamp is very soft well laid down in the backing , the blue mode on the voice is the middle between the pure preamp and the red preamp, the blue mode on the 10 is such a modern dense sound. Red mode is generally the voice did NOT LIKE TOO MUCH UPPER AND TOO ALLOCATES SIBILANT! Most of all I liked the pure preamplifier and blue mode on the voice are really two different character sound and both sit PERFECTLY in the mix.
The voice of the performer is generally above all praise, he is perfect the microphone which is provided in the video.

The Neve provides those classic sounds so many of us enjoyed back in the days of analog recordings. The documentary Reel to Real by Dave Grohl, who now owns the Neve console from Sound City where the video and accompanying audio tracks for the documentary were recorded, does a great job dissecting and explaining this legendary piece of audio equipment. The AXR4 would definitely be a welcome addition to my modest recording setup. At 57 years of age, I started learning guitar a couple of years ago and have been learning how to record my ideas along the way. I grew up listening to analog sound recordings and this interface seems to do very well at bringing that sound into the digital age.

I'm a big fan of Steinberg, Cubase was the first DAW i used back in the day. Germans are know for some of the best engineered pro audio gear on the planet, and having that Neve Silk emulation is a great gateway to get hooked on that classic transformer sound. I imagine the AXR4 would pair well with the Rupert Neve Portico II master bus processor!

Alright i have to admit that the red mode on vocals and the acoustic guitar, really impressed me. I often struggle to see/hear what people mean, when they say that that "insert random expensive mic pre/interface" sounds so amazing. But this time i gotta say damn, that red mode really did something that goes beyond those "5%" people always talk about when talking pricey gear.

I have a Focusrite 2i2 and I'm recording my own personal songs and some of friends stuff as well. Through recording other people, I've quickly run out of inputs and this would certainly help in my transition to becoming an open studio for recording artists around my city because I sure as hell don't make enough money to purchase an interface which can be superior to my 2i2.

Thank you for the review, Warren. The SILK really makes the difference. Without it the preamps sound pretty neutral and clean. I love the Blue setting on drums, bass and e-guitar. Hi Peter Conzelman definitely only four! Which you can tell because the toms are a little quieter in the overheads! Probably some additional compression would help that! However then you would not get an accurate representation of the four mics on the mics on the kit through the Steinberg.

Well, I recently got an agreement to rent out a small room, where I hopefully will have a nice small studio one day. No more bedroom tracking soon :) So this nice piece of equipment would definitely be helpful. I'd use that probably on a guitar/bass most of the time.

Love your video's. This one not so much. Yep, I too started on illegal versions of Charlie Steinbergs Pro 24. Some long time ago . But somehow I don't think this unit will make much difference. Its up to par with Apollo now. I looked at the previous URT4 / UR44 9,5 inch models. I was struck too see no significant lay-out differences between the Steinberg/Yamaha UR44 design and a model having URT4 transformer option. Look at those 2 products: max 4 signals are going into D-pre first and than into an optional Neve transformer. A metal box having a nice Rupert Neve signature on it and 4 metal gain knobs instead of plastic ones. It looked like a branding collab paired to a technical afterthought. "Discrete Class A indiscretely" advertised. As USB2.0 units are not daisy-chainable. The previous USB 2.0 units were pretty much dead on arrival. Thunderbolt is daisy-chainable. This refreshed RT4 unit has (if you buy 2 or 3) a new 16 and 24/ io shot at it (and packs a lot of digital Yamaha dsp chips along with it). All 8 analog transformerless output circuits will be Yamaha. Nor does it have 4 discrete class A Nevish mic pre circuits, instead 4x Yamaha D-pre. ... And/or what happened to the 4 line in transformers? It could use Yamaha VCM transformer 'emulation' of a `Neve silk circuitry red, white and blue ... So what exactly hybrid are we looking at here? Boutique range prices for non-boutique mass produced stuff. Good stuff, but excellent? Doubt it.

This thing looks fantastic!! A major step up from my Apogee 2 channel interface. This would be a help. I could actually record a band at my house with a "Neve-ish" vibe. And it's Thunderbolt. Please guys, pick me. Pick me...

Really great audio interface. I have a laptop, but no interface.
Winning this would be amazing! Congrats to whoever actually wins it.

I went to the link above to enter the giveaway, but whatever that spinning thing was for entering the giveaway just said stuff like, "shaken not stirred, thrusters engaging, etc.," and never worked as any kind of link for entering the giveaway. :(
Anyway, if I won the interface, I'd probably use it as an interface. I don't mean to sound like a smartass, but I don't know what else to do with it, really. I'm kind of a novice at the hardware side of it all.

This unit would help me to finally record the dummer in my band, all individual drum and cymbals so I could produce the finetuned sound I like. Also looking forward to have the best quality possible from the preamps itself. I hope my luck won't let me down and I get the AXR4 in my studio really soon! Thanks for the giveaway and wish you very best!

I would finally have a good microphone preamp ive been dreaming of. Not only that it would give me the ability to share my music with extreme detail to the world on UA-cam. Pick me please.

The steinberg AXR4 would be a really nice allround solution for my homestudio, to integrate some outboard gear and it would replace my mackie onyx 1640 .

The AXR4 would be amazing to own! I just bought a batch of mics to shape out my hone studio as I start recording my EP and some projects for other people. This would definitely be a marvelous upgrade haha

Hi warren! Would be great to have access to those Neve like preamps and the extra I/O in my studio. I’m still using an RME Fireface 800. Great conversion, but I’m overdue for an upgrade. Thanks for all your lovely content.

I hope whomever wins this has a great studio to use it in. I think it would be overkill for my little demo/writing room. Don't get me wrong, I'll take it but this is a high end pro unit.
